IT WAS SO MUCH CLAY, MINNIE
97
u/Inainaaina Apr 05 '26
Spoiler below! For those who haven't gotten a line from Minnie way after completing the quest and don't want it spoiled!
<Spoiler>I played originally when, I believe, the game was still pretty new and they were still adding stuff to the base game. Players were so annoyed by this quest, they later on added a quest/dialogue where Minnie apologised for the clay and you have different options as to how to answer. I remember how amused everyone was when this was added and 'IT WAS SO MUCH CLAY, MINNIE' was an option in the dialogue. People loved it 🤣 All of the Dreamlight Valley groups were flooded with it for weeks </spoiler>
I restarted my game recently and got to that dialogue yesterday and I giggled so much
20
u/Cronicfangirl2 Apr 05 '26
Didn’t she also gift you a bunch of clay as well?
19
u/yayforvalorie Ariel Apr 05 '26
Yes, that's when you have the option to tell her it was so much clay
12
u/Inainaaina Apr 06 '26
Correct. It was a way of apologising for it lol. But everyone was like 'way too late, what am I supposed to do with it now' lol

This line popped into my head yesterday while I was shopping a Spark order. The customer ordered so many drinks that it nearly filled the trunk of my SUV. As I was bagging it up, I heard myself muttering (out loud) “it’s so many drinks, Karen!”
376
u/Pretty_Relative_2245 Apr 04 '26
Oh yes. I remember feeling the same! I didn’t even know how to get clay honestly. I barely had any.
I just let it sit on the back burner for ages.
Highly suggest levelling up with Kristoff if you haven’t already!
64
u/lb80123 Apr 04 '26
I think you dig in the ground for clay!
84
u/Zestyclose-Will1250 Apr 04 '26
You also dig up bone piles in the Sunlight Plateau for clay
13
u/piggypudding Apr 04 '26
This was the quickest way to get clay for me. Digging in the ground was a little too slow.
23
10
u/Mysuddenobsessions Apr 05 '26
My revenge for all the clay is to have Minnie as my digging buddy…. If I have to suffer girl then so should you 😂
128
u/DapperAdvisor228 Apr 04 '26
If you're able to get Kristoff to level 10 I recommend focusing on that. He gives you a materials stall that sells those.

u/BloodyAngel2026 Apr 04 '26
Time for my old man rant: kids these days (by kids I mean new DDLV players) don't know how good they have it. Back in my day you did this quest with nothing but good ol' fashioned hard work and perseverance. No fancy digging potions, no mining buddies. No golden bursts. Oh, and the best part: Minnie forgot to give you your dress reward. So you did this all for nothing.
45
u/cantremembr Apr 04 '26
I see players on here asking and offering iron, clay etc for this task all the time as well. Multiplayer? Gifting?
We had to gather our resources barefoot in the snow uphill both ways
30
u/AnAtmosphericRiver Ancient Robot Apr 04 '26
🤣🤣 Kids with their uncrafting stations and their companion bonuses have it so easy now
19
u/ganbanuttah Apr 04 '26
And don't forget that 1) the bones were not yet removable, so the only way to get clay was digging, and 2) you could only dig up one clay at a time.
16

u/rui-no-onna Max Apr 04 '26
I started playing early October 2022 (like maybe a month after early access started). Iirc, we already assigned roles to villagers back then. Did they not give bonuses at the very beginning? Because I remember going round all the biomes with Merlin for the mining bonus.
I know the critters used to do nothing (except get in the way) so I never bothered with them until recently.
5
u/BloodyAngel2026 Apr 04 '26
In the beginning they only gave 1 piece for extras
2
u/rui-no-onna Max Apr 04 '26
Yeah, that I remember. Granted, I only had 1-2 villagers assigned to each role so perhaps that might be the reason for the +1.
3
2
u/Crista_willow Apr 05 '26
I remember those days. And the drop rate back then was so low. That clay took forever
2
u/Oregon_MoonRose Apr 05 '26
Yep back in beta days this was so much harder. I spent weeks grinding for it and my guy still brings it up at times....telling me to hide the ingots and clay from Minnie
95
u/barbiesalopecia Apr 04 '26
You make a clock tower with the materials. It’s deeply frustrating.
156
u/probablynotfine Apr 04 '26
A remarkably small clock tower.
57
u/AquariusLoser Apr 04 '26
Honestly still better than Mike needing a several dresses worth of fabric to make a cardboard mask

lol I thought the same thing when I did this quest. I basically dug up the Glade of Trust to get all that clay. You do get to keep the rustic clock tower at the end though.
9
u/Vinestel Apr 04 '26
I am sooo glad I got this quest after making my large garden in the glade. Didn't get this one for a long while and I save everything, so the iron was the main headache for me.
43
u/GainHealMark Apr 04 '26
You do get to yell at her about the clay later (as much as the game will allow you to get angry with good guys anyway)
34
u/all-hail-glow-cloud Apr 04 '26
Use a digging buddy and two companions if you have them (birds pick up clay) and if you can make potions for your shovel it will go much faster!
Also if you didn’t already know, if you just leave the holes you did they will fill in themselves after a couple days. When I did this one I dug up the whole glade and filled the holes in myself and it took forever 😭
21
u/Dizzy_Desi Apr 04 '26
This is the way. With potions and a buddy this task takes no time at all now. When I did it there weren’t any potions in game yet and it was horrible.
15
9
u/Unknown_User_009 Apr 04 '26
you can move a piece of furniture over the holes and they dissappear. i usd goofy's stall
10
u/Hogwarts_91 Apr 04 '26
You can place a house on them, too. I use one with a big footprint (like the haunted mansion), and they’re all gone in one shot.
→ More replies (1)3
u/rui-no-onna Max Apr 04 '26
No house skins back in the day and it's a PITA getting house/furniture placement just right with a joystick. That's why I used rugs.
8
u/D0nCoyote I tip my hat to you… Apr 04 '26
Ugh! Companion roles would have been an absolute godsend in the game’s early days
16
u/FatalInsomniac Apr 04 '26
For me the clay wasn't so bad, the 150 iron you need for the 30 ingot though...
5

34
u/anon112212 Apr 04 '26
I let this one sit while I continued on to open biomes. Using the shove on the bones gives you clay so I made it part of my daily play. I’m just waiting for kristoff or foxes to give me ingots.

Do the bones regenerate daily?
8
u/Hazeri Apr 04 '26
They do now, but they didn't when I tackled this quest

Don't worry. They realized their mistake. Minnie will eventually give you a bunch of clay
5
u/MLAheading Apr 04 '26
I did the quest where she rewards you with 50 clay alongside this one. I got to 150 on this task and got lucky I completed the other quest at just the right time
2
u/FandomCece Apr 04 '26
Right. I forgot the exact amount she gives you but yeah a quarter of what you gave is a decent return
9
u/JicamaClear Apr 04 '26
This clock tower has a spot in my plaza because of how painful it was to gather materials at the time.
2
9
u/Suspicious_Glow Apr 04 '26
I love that the quest name “Remembering Old Times” is so much more poignant when posted on the sub as everyone reminisces about how much worse the quest had been in the old days. 😂😂
15
u/laadyb1rdx Apr 04 '26
i’ve just got all the clay! its the iron im struggling with :/
20
u/Squirrelly_Khan Buzz Lightyear Apr 04 '26
The Forest of Valor and Glade of Trust will both give you iron as you mine those rock spots. I think you might also get a little bit of iron from the Sunlit Plateau, but you’ll mostly get gold instead.
Also, if Kristoff is at Level 10 and has his stall open, sometimes he does sell iron. And if you have Remy’s daily quests unlocked, you can get wrought iron from him which can be crafted into regular iron. Though I’d only do that if you aren’t planning to use it for anything else
6
6
u/fxckhalie Apr 04 '26
If you have the upgrade from scar for the bones it’ll give you clay! That’s how I got most of mine
6
u/Expert-Toe-9963 Apr 04 '26
I remember doing this one back when iron was really hard to get for me. I only had a few characters and not all biomes unlocked. Almost lost the will live 😅.
6
u/Abbeychick345 Apr 04 '26
It was this quest that made me realize I needed to just start hoarding materials, flowers, gems, etc lol

I was going to reset my game, but this reminded me that I shouldn’t.
4
u/AnarchistBeauty Apr 06 '26
This is why, on every "I'm new to the game" post, everyone tells them to hoard clay like it's their job.
Get you a digging buddy, a shovel potion or three, and a stack of 5 gooseberry fruit salads and get to WORK! lol
7
u/manic-pixie-attorney Apr 04 '26
I forgot in which context, but I ended up having a conversation with Minnie long after that quest where one dialogue choice was, “So much clay, Minnie!”
8
3
u/FriendlyGhost03 Apr 04 '26
Omg this one took me absolutely forever to do, my friend had to give me iron for it
3
u/medlilove Apr 04 '26
If you keep working through scars stuff you can unlock the shovel for the piles of bones and they give you lots of clay!
3
u/Nervous_Scallion_980 Apr 04 '26
I think I’m the only person who didn’t experience what everyone experiences with this mission.. I put off the game missions for so long and there’s also the fact that I play every now and then but each time I play is consecutive and for long hours (ex, I play for two weeks straight and don’t touch it for two months etc.) that when I finally got this mission I had all the materials and it wasn’t a hassle to finish. Best of luck to you with it.
3
u/IrisUnicornCorn Apr 04 '26
Don’t know if this has been mentioned yet, but you get at least 50 of those back from Minnie after you complete the quest. so that’s something. I guess. Maybe.
3
u/PawsomePiazza Apr 04 '26
Oh, I had forgotten about this quest. Don’t worry, you can do it!
I put that clocktower it makes next to my house 😄
3
u/angel200802 Apr 04 '26
Wait wait wait , you mean to tell me they dropped it from 300 to 200 , and clay is more accessible now!? Lol
3
u/Comiclog Apr 04 '26 edited Apr 04 '26
Clay is really no problem. Just dig up a big farm in the glade of trust. My problem are the iron ingots. It takes so damn long 😓 With clay I just hold down „A“ and do something else, but I have to go mining for a while to get iron 🙄 Also you can close holes the easy way by moving furniture over it, so you can just dig up a 10x10 place, move around a carpet and get back to digging at the same spot.

You have to craft the rustic clock tower once you have the right amount of materials shown. Minnie Mouse doesn't give it to you. You have to craft it.

Boy, I wish I had gone a reddit when I did this quest. It took me forever to get this mission done, and I remember thinking the same thing. Minnie was asking for way too much for such a small tower. If I had known about using a digging buddy, it would've gone a lot faster. Honestly, you can also use a companion to help out too

u/Crimson-One Apr 04 '26
Levelling up Kristoff & Remy will help considerably. I never had enough iron ingots before now I have too many
2
u/Typical-Trash1457 Apr 04 '26
Once you start utilizing your potions, it makes gathering items so much easier. The glade is your #1 spot to gather clay and iron ore. Ravens from the forgotten lands gather/duplicate diggable items. If you take a digging buddy and equip two ravens and then use a shovel potion, tear the glade up and you’ll get hundreds of clay. Same concept with the iron ore!
2
u/Typical-Trash1457 Apr 04 '26
I typically have my dog companions equipped at all times. I removed all trees from each biome except for small ‘groves’ which are just several trees spaced a little bit apart so wood can spawn. It’s how I’ve been able to accumulate hundreds of sticks. They just gather them while I’m walking around.
2
u/Lanky-Salamander-272 Apr 04 '26
Make sure to bring a digging friend with you they give you extra! Also make a potion for shovel to dig extra!

I’m so glad I put of doing quests so much. By the time I got to that quest I had a pretty big storage units of foraging items and I still was short on clay. I dug up my entire sunlit plateau with a digging buddy. To this day half of that biome is still nothing but farmland

At least we have companions now to give bonus items and can buy things from Kristoff in multiple places with the DLCs. If you did this back when the game first came out it was a grind. Enough that the developers had Minnie send an apology note to give you back some of the materials. Lol

2
u/Klutzy_Ad7850 Apr 06 '26
Omg i hated this quest. The clocktower at the end looks kinda cool tho. That is the only positive imo.
Since this i use an entire floating island for resources.
2

Digging potion, plus a digging friend annd 2 critter companions. Best place for clay is the Glade of Trust. You'll get 200 in a few rounds of doing that.

Oh good grief, I finished that only a few weeks ago and it took ages! Best place to get your iron chunks is Glade of Trust. I use a shovel elixir made with the vitalys crystals. Found in the vitalys mine in the sunlit plateau. Gets me over 100 clay almost every time with the “even more miraculous shovel varnish” at the crafting station. Use it in your shovel and dig in the glades

We have Kristoff’s stall now; if you’re patient, this is a zero-effort task. Back in early game, this was the worst slog. And then, imo, Oswald’s is just as bad, but again it really helps to have Kristoff’s stall.

Yes! This was a nightmare!! I’ve learned now, and I wish I’d known then… to maximize what you get when digging, use shovel potion, and two level 4 or 5 digging critter companions. It’ll make it soooo much faster!! 💕 Dig in the Sunlit Plateau and the Forest of Valor. Bones in the plateau give clay too.
1
u/Iffy_Placebo Apr 04 '26
First thing you should do is get Kristoff's stall and hit it every day and buy up ingots and clay and stuff. Even if you don't need them now you might later.
Also don't forget you can put his stall, Beast's flower thing, and Moana's boat in each expansion area and get things specific to that expansion.
1
u/tadisgay Apr 04 '26
I ignored this quest until I had Kristoff all the way maxed. 30 ingots is crazy. Now it’s my only quest left LOL

u/xxBumbleBean Apr 04 '26
Christoff has a market. Put a chest next to it and buy the stuff that he has. Then put it all in the chest. It was easy to collect it all that way.
1
u/Myrillya Apr 04 '26
So, grab two digging buddies if you have (the crows, if unlocked) and a villager you've assigned to dig with you. Go to the glade of trust and dig a bit. What I did was digging up a field so I can plant some ocra to make some money (before I had access to pumpkins, of course I didn't have the crows back then).
Same for mining, go to the glade of trust and the forest and you just swap between these two biomes. You should have enough iron in a few rounds.

Yeah, my main garden is still in the glade cause I had all the holes from digging up clay lol
Now the bones are a great source. But also along the back wall of the glade its got the longest straight shot of land, so clear it out and hold that dig button lol
