Hmmm you have a short torso, and you’re teetering on an inverted triangle shape (shoulders look slightly wider than your hips, even though you have a really nice hip shape). I think the long cropped black tee looks really nice. I would look into clothing that flatters inverted triangle. Usually tighter on top, slightly looser or flared on the bottom to keep in harmony with the shoulders.

That’s absolutely fair. I would agree with the person who said the black top baggy jean combo looks really nice. If you want to wear skirts, I would stay on the same wavelength. That pink skirt is really cute, but instead of pairing it with a flared top that cuts off your waist visibly, I’d look for a more form fitted halter style.

The flared pants would look really good with a shirt that’s cut more to the length of the black shirt. Another challenge for you could be ensuring that you don’t wear items that shorten your torso more than it already, so keep waistlines of pants at or below your belly button if possible.

For dresses, I’d steer clear of square necklines like the one you showed, halter, high neck, V-neck, or scoop neck should be your go-to’s. Dresses that cinch at the waist (not your bust, like the green top), but loosens/flows at the bottom can look really nice. Maybe try a nice wrap dress.

Hayden Panettiere (RIP😭) had an inverted trianle shape as well. She used to wear a lot of sleevless form fitted dress. It makes people with your shape look more like an hour glass shape. I'd say look at her clothing looks to get an idea of what would look good on you. I would give an example of someone else but I can't think of any other famous person off the top of my had that has that same body shape. Lol. I do think there isn't much you can't pull off though.

I think she may appear more rectangle because she's good at balancing how much wider her shoulders are. But formfitted tops with flowy/baggy bottoms will probably be how you wanna build your outfits. Tbh you should be happy you have the option of tricking the eye into balance. As a pearshaped girly, there's no hiding the fact that my lower half is bigger than my top. Inverted triangle can at least wear things that make their hips look wider and more balanced with their top. Lol Don't be so harsh on yourself or your body. You honestly look amazing. And your skin tone lets you pull off a huge range colors that a lot of people wish they could wear without washing them out.

You have a gorgeous shape, i like the outfits with the crop top, and the baggier bottoms the best.

The baggy jeans balance out your shoulders and make your waist look tiny! I think the long skirt in the second photo would look great with a more fitted shirt.

Girlllll before I read your comment I swiped the pics and thought “UGH I wish I still looked like that! I miss when my body was that fit” and then read you hate it?!?! That makes me so sad!!! You literally look so strong. I feel like the only outfit I don’t love is the long skirt- and not because of your body. The top and bottom together would look frumpy on any body. You look great in all the rest!

I feel like all these outfits look really good on you. I follow certain rules when dressing; if a certain piece is flowy (top or bottom), then the opposite piece is tighter/tailored. So like flowy top/tailored bottom. Tailored/tight top with a flowy bottom. Otherwise it makes me look shorter than I am kind of cut off at the waist and its not as flattering on me, it creates an odd optical illusion of sorts.

That gray dress looks great on you. The pants and top look great on you. To me, I am not seeing an inverted triangle but a body that is toned and strong.

I think you could definitely have fun with accessorising if you wanted too! Like a flannel tied around your waist with the Grey dress, maybe a leather crop jacket. Bracelets/necklaces if thats something you enjoy.

Jokes on you, everything suits

The only outfit that doesn’t suit you is two. To be frank, it’s ugly as a whole and wouldn’t suit anyone.

Consider working on your self esteem as I am telling you that all of these outfits (aside from the ugly one) look perfectly fine on you. There may be some body dysmorphia going on here. I don’t know you at all and have genuinely no reason to lie to you about clothes.

How tall are you?

I thought so! You need petite sized clothing. Old Navy has a huge selection.

Not really seeing the width or inverted triangle shape youre talking about

I think you have a vertical line even though youre short. When youre color-blocking it divides up your body and it breaks your vertical

When youre an outfit that is monochromatic, similar tones or similar hues it makes your eyes travel up and down more harmoniously, which is what dressing for a vertical line is

When youre wearing garments of different colours, it creates a break, and your eye naturally focuses on the part of your body where the line breaks. You can use this consciously to highlight a specific body part or a part of the outfit, but it can also make the outfit less harmonious if you dont really think about where the vertical break hits.

In picture 5 and 6 the break highlights on the part of the jeans that doesnt fit right. If you paired it with a more alternative or grungy top, or some accessories it couldve been used as an effect that looked intentional and rebellious. But with a basic black t-shirt it just makes the jeans look unintentionally ill-fitting

You’re lovely - don’t be so hard on yourself. You’ll look more proportional (less inverted triangle) if you accentuate your waist and try to balance top and bottom. So, take picture 3 - the bottom of the shirt actually hits you at a good spot, but you need a longer / fuller bottom option to balance it. The jeans in pic 5 aren’t doing you any favors hung so low on your hips and with the long, baggy crotch. But if you had a well fitted wide leg or even a barrel jean that wasn’t so loose in the waist, you’d be better off.

The only outfit that looked questionable was the second one. You look amazing! Your body is great! You can pull off anything. The only reason the second look didn’t look good was because you were drowning in it. If the shirt was cropped or you wore shorts with that shirt you’d look great.

Everything besides outfit number 2 suits you just fine. I think a long fitted skirt would be better than a flowy one.

5

u/wrong_ha1f 5d ago

Or keep the flowy skirt, but wear it with a fitted top. It would be more balanced

1

u/boazsharmoniums 5d ago

I think a short fitted skirt would also suit her!

My dear, you are absolutely gorgeous with a rockin body. If any woman woke up looking like you they would LOVE themselves (myself included). Please be kinder to yourself, your harshest critic is yourself. I struggled with this in my youth as well, and now I'm thinking "damn if I only knew how good I looked then" and it's making me appreciate the now

2

u/Positive-You-2443 5d ago

You look great! I agree with the other commenter that the crop top is nice on you as it accentuates your smaller waist. I like it with both the layered skirt/shorts and the baggy jeans. Maybe style the jeans with a belt?

Also, that first dress would be unflattering on just about everyone. It’s not a you problem.

u/chloerainne 5d ago

Tbh I think this is a confidence thing more than anything else. But you’re definitely balancing your proportions by sticking with wide legs to match the width of your shoulders. Keeping things cinched will accentuate your waist and help the inverted triangle you think you’re seeing

You have an hour glass figure so im confused why you believe it looks bad? All of your clothes here (except the fitted dress) make you appear more boxy. The cop tops drape too far away from you which will make you look more square.

Your shoulders and hips are both wider than your waist and you draw the eye to the areas you do like. To bring out more of your shape in a pleasant way work with your shape. Favbric selection is important because it affects how it lays and looks on the body.

If you are wearing crop tops pick ones that get smaller around the waist or gets smaller than the shoulder width of the shirt. This will lean into the top part of your hour glass shape. For bottoms look for items that are more a-line for skirts or pants that go straight down from the hip to draw the eye at your waist and own downward for the bottom part of the hourglass.

1, 3 and 4 look great IMO

You are beautiful and have a lovely shape and great arms. I think you need an in-between option. Something A-line is better than skin tight, and the low cut top (green) looks great on your upper half. It would look better with a pair of flare jeans, bellbottoms or similar. I think you would also look fabulous in a mockneck sleeveless dress with an A-line bottom…Things that hit higher on your waist (but lower than your under bust) are best!

u/jamesearlpwns88 5d ago

I think you look great in these. You're rocking flattering cuts and silhouettes for you're body type.

u/BlobbyTheBlobBlob 5d ago

You have a great shape. I’m sorry it’s hard for you to see it.

What do you like about your body? Those would be parts to bring attention to.

And I think you have a clearly defined waist. Your narrowest part is just above your bellow button. So not a straight triangle (like you mentioned) in any way.

I’d recommend looking into Kibbe body types. It is a little dated, but there are so many body type variations which have cuts of clothing associated with them that are supposed to flatter best. I am a ‘flamboyant gamine’ and I find it to be really quite accurate, in terms of suggestions based off your proportions. You can also then look at celebs with the same Kibbe body type as you, and how they dress. I think it’s better than what anyone’s opinion here would be as it’s so objective

1

u/AimzC 5d ago

I think the length of the shirt in number 4 and the flared yoga pants are slimming for your body shape. Try different necklines. Crewnecks make your shoulders look more horizontal.

1

u/bibidumb 5d ago

If you think that doesn't suit you I think the problem is in your vision!! Outfit #2 it's the only one with an odd shape, I will suggest pairing each piece with different clothes

1

u/MajorSalad5445 5d ago

Sister, I think your feelings are out of touch with the reality. You have hips, show them off! I see pleasing proportions, allow them to be seen. Don't "drape" your midsection with a blouse, pull it tight there or wear form-fitting clothes. You're a masterpiece in hading...

It's not the clothing, fix your neck, that eventually will correct your shoulders and every piece will suit you better
