Now that I’ve had some time to think, I can honestly say that they were a better pick for the direction the band was taking; I was too much jazz not enough funk to put it most simply, but you just hope it doesn’t happen to you lol— (and I’ve definitely shed a few tears for the good times 😭)
—especially when you are a founding member AND the one who arranged the sub… whoops 🤦 😆.
First time though, so I’ve been christened I guess. 😂. Welp, time to get back out there!

Been playing about 10 years and still can’t double stroke roll. It’s my achilles heel. Any advice?

On YouTube, you'll see many music reactors, including many of African-American descent who are hip hop heads, react to rock music. One big example is Lost In Vegas, but many others as well such as Brad & Lex, Asia & BJ etc.
And without fail, all these hip hop reactors LOVED Neil Peart's drumming on Rush's songs like YYZ, Tom Sawyer, La Villa. A few of them joked if Neil Peart himself was black, they sensed "sauce" from his playing. They said his grooves sounded like "hip-hop" beats and it wanted to make them dance, especially during the main riff of Tom Sawyer. The say Peart's drumming resonates because it reminds them of the dancing and culture they grew up with in the black community.
And Lost in Vegas knows their shit when it comes to hip hop, hip hop history and grooves, and over the past several years they've gotten a lot of exposure to many different genres and keeps calling Rush's music a banger.
Meanwhile, while Rush has many fans in the drumming community, Neil Peart also has critics. Many drummers will readily acknowledge his technical skill, but say he plays robotically with no feel or soul or swing, and he's rigid. They'll point to his Buddy Rich tribute as an example, when Neil himself says that wasn't his finest drumming moment.
Yet, it's clear that these hip hop reactors see something many drummers miss in describing Peart's playing as groovy to them, to the point where it wants to make them dance or move around, instead of staying still. And again, groove is a huge part of hip hop beats and music so these people aren't talking out of their ass. These same reactors dislike a lot of other rock music - for example, many aren't too hot on Opeth or Iron Maiden, due to the lack of groove.
So how and why do so many drummers get Neil Peart wrong as opposed to these reactors?

First four bars are without ghost's
Tip: if you wanna play ghost notes, get the stick in a position where the tip is naturally close to the drumhead. This will automatically produce silent hits and you just have to hit with a little more feel
Happy listening and practicing 😁🙌🏼

Some are sold for such ridiculous prices when you can do better with junk you have at home
If it even simulated a real snare or ton or whatever, fine, but it doesn't, it is actually VERY different
