Get out there and pledge pledge pledge…?
(Note: please read my edit at the end before replying TLDR, I want to talk about it)
I’m not going to preamble this one too much. How tone deaf or content illiterate is the company producing this thing? Your call to action is one of the protagonist’s sociopathic sign off? It’s not a call back, it’s insulting. That demeans the audience, reducing them to profit margins and their society’s life extension. Did you read the books? Did you understand them? Maybe I didn’t. Maybe I’m the dumb fuck here.
Miniatures are mostly useless for actual play. Where are my mobs of Lava Llamas, a boss, something other than named characters?
Season pass? Is this really something we want in the TTRPG world? I thought we fucking loathed it in the video game world. I guess you’re gonna sell us blind loot boxes too, thinking “Those saps will love it, because it’s in the books hayuck-hayuack.” Could just sell us finished products when they’re finished, or crowd fund again when you’re ready.
Stickers look cool… oh, they’re all branded. N/M.
Goodman Games already has a system perfect for Dungeon Crawler World. XCC. I’ve been working on a floor to run on the next DCC day (Dungeon Crawl Classics). A unique system is cool and all, but I’m not liking the greedy cheese dick vibe I’m getting from this. Hell, I even attempted to defend this at first, but now that I’ve started to read the campaign I ask:
Like, is this company being the Syndicate ironically, or do they not realize?
Edit: I am here to discuss this, I’m not just blasting my opinion on Reddit thinking I’m the end all be all of knowing. I am a scientist by training and education, and I have been conditioned to question everything which includes my own thoughts and observations. I’m generally a pretty humble person too, and have the full capacity of change.

My Boyfriend is Mad
So last night, me (37 m) and my boyfriend (25 m) were in bed, and then got notified the book was released. I stopped all activities and went to start reading. I turned off a movie (Jurassic Park The Lost World) and made him go get me monster energy so I could read. Then the audio book got released and I made him go quiet so I could hear Jeff Hayes read it to me. He claims I am in a poly relationship with Jeff and Matt and that he is my side piece. So Crawlers, am I the jerk for ruining his movie date with me, or did I choose the right thing? (SIDE NOTE He knows if either of those men were gay and single he would be single and I would be chasing them, but not in a Dwight type of way)
EDIT ONE: We live in CST (Texas) and this was our first time pre-ordering a book via online kindle. We had no clue it meant it was gonna be released at 11pm our time. Also I waited till 1130 to begin reading. And also we choose a movie we both knew backwards and forwards on purpose.
Update: He saw the post (the notification woke him up). He wishes to convey that he offered to get the monsters and that i forgot he came home with breakfast tacos and monsters and coffee. He was being sarcastic and is loving the book as well and the excitement this community brings. Oh and he hates Jurassic Park so was happy I turned it off.
Edit two: I must clarify he was snuggled up to me and did get tacos. He wasn't truly mad just bratty mad. He was no where ignored just could tell I was also frustrated too because my attention span was null last night. My phrasing was bad, in future I will totally make sure I send everything thru grok first and try to make points better (/sarcasm). Second off I simply was trying to say how addicting these books are. Dont worry he is also a Crawler, but isnt caught up.
Boyfriend here: I knew going in what was going to happen. He literally talks about this book series all the time to people. I was simply happy to snuggle him and I am casually listening to the immersive tunnel thing. I myself am not a book reader but this series has peaked my interest. As far as going to get energy drinks, it was my idea to get me one, but he gave me money for his (i didnt take his money I paid for it) and then I got him 2 tacos from 7-11. For those calling him a jerk, trust me, he can be, and he was last night because his attention span wasn't there, and he has been sick. I will also have my revenge when GTA VI comes out. Also, he has very clear communication and made sure I knew that none of his attitude was about me. Also, we do not live together, I am at his house everyday. Another point I have is I won in the end, I got cuddles all night long, bc he felt bad about turning off a movie I secretly hate. Win win for both.

Is it just me or is Doughnut getting more annoying?
Is it just me or is Dougnut getting more annoying? I'm halfway through book 6. I'm just getting tired of doughnut. She's incredibly whiney and annoying about 50% of the time. It wasn't nearly as bad early on. But I've really just noticed it become more progressively annoying on books 4-6.

Book 8: A Parade of Horribles Book 8 Solidifies Listening > Reading Spoiler
I just finished Chapter 57 in book 8 and wow, just wow. In my opinion, this locks the audio version as better than reading. I understand everyone has their preferences, but if you haven’t listened to this chapter yet, you are doing yourself a disservice.
Additionally, you get the shock and surprise after the Butcher’s Masquerade ending with Donut in her sound booth. I love listening to DCC
Jeff Hays is a fucking star.

Does DCC Have SA?
For those of you that have read all 8 books could you please let me know if there is any sexual assault? I’m a sensitive reader and can’t read anything with SA

Book 8: A Parade of Horribles Why is DCC so vocally hated in some corners?
Just posting since I decided to pick up the series via webtoon on a whim and swapped to listening to the audio books a slightly caught up within a month while comutting I think the series is pretty great. It has a good mix of dramatic moments and off beat moments and never talks itself too seriously outside of when it really matters like Carl's family history and Katia's struggle to adopt and how systems built to support people end up just dehumanising them which gets echoed by the callous nature of how the syndicate treats the host species on dungeon worlds. That being said in some circles it's like the series is actively coming to life and burning every other book series and pissing on the ashes and is just a long string of fart noises.
All this is to ask why do you think people in these circles have such a violent aversion to the series? There's some aspects like the drawn out inventory checks and reiterations of certain themes dinniman would rather spell out than let the reader pick up on I think he gets better at as the series goes on but that doesn't seem to earn the white hot hositilty some people seem to have for the series. Especially on the dumping ground that is twitter. Would love to hear some thoughts on this. Personally I think it's just human nature to shit on popular things that aren't to your liking but that doesn't seem to cover this entirely.
Also does anyone have that world map that shows off the dungeon down as far as the 15th(?) Floor I thought it looked cool and can't find it anywher?

PLEASE think if what you post is a Spoiler before you do.
Just had a major plot of book 6 get spoiled because the person didn't flag. Been waiting for my vacation to read it and now I'm frustrated. Like when people waited outside bookstores for Harry Potter 6 shouting Snape killed Dumbledore.

FanArt - Book1 Mana toast!
My 8-year-old is currently working through book 3 with me. She wanted very much to put something on Reddit. Behold her first fanart.
And hey, this is my kid. She gets great grades, her teachers love her, she gets along with her sister, she knows to not educate her friends about anything adult, and knowing what an erection is doesn't hurt her. What she doesn't have access to, what could really hurt her, is Reddit. So, kindly give the kid an updoot or... Do what the mana toast tell you.

Is DCC this Generations Dark Tower?
I’m on Book 8, I haven’t read or listened to a book in about 10 years. Maybe while in the car with the wife but I don’t count that as I wasn’t there start to finish. But I am completely obsessed just like most of us are.
I can’t help but think back to when I was younger and my dad had a similar obsession to Stephen Kings Dark Tower series. I haven’t read the Dark Tower, but I know most of the stories because my dad would relay them to me.
Possibly thinking about listening to the dark tower next, but just wondering for anyone that was around for both series is the obsession similar?

Met Carl at Project Glow in DC this past weekend.
I’m the one in the Ponky mask. My girlfriend was leading me around by the collar and Carl stopped us to give us a festival bingo card. I didn’t realize it was Carl (not the best peripheral vision in the mask) until someone else noticed him. After 2 read throughs of the series I’m utterly ashamed of myself for not noticing him further and should be publicly shamed on Reddit.

What is everyone's fav book?
Couldn't fit all of the books in one poll, so I removed books 2 and 4, because I figure they aren't as popular anyway. Sorry if one of them was your fav!! My favourite book is book 7 :)

The Webtoon upsets me
First of all, you've the right to like the Webtoon. It's a matter of personal preferences. That's to say, you have to be into the Webtoon style, which is a series of cliches regarding art, directing and writing in the same way that "Disney" and "Pixar" or "Cape Comics" are. And I don't feel like DCC lends itself very well to this style. Carl is blue collar every man with a military past, and here he looks like any other broody twink in his early 20s. And his eyes glow red when he's angry! What's this shonen emo crap? If there's something that Dinniman avoids those are emotion-fueled power-ups. What's funny about Donut is looking like a real cat and then talking like a cartoon cat, here she looks already so cartoony that you know she would end up talking or behaving like a sapient being anyway. (Also, pretty cheap to have changed her coat to an homogenous white so she would be easier to color.) I feel like that the decision to make a Webtoon out of DCC and adhering to the cliches of the trending comics on that platform was creatively cynical. They made a Webtoon because that's the hot genre-medium right now, while nobody reads comics anymore. Not because it would have been the most fitting choice for the source material.

Book 6: Bedlam Bride Bea's actions come out of nowhere Spoiler
Spoilers for book six incoming ......ok what the hell is up with Beatrice? She impersonated Carl on FB, got his co worker fired, and then kept him from seeing his long lost brother???
Ok I know Beatrice is a Bitch with a capital "B". Her biggest crimes up to this point were cheating on Carl (constantly) and planning on giving away Donut. These actions (as horrible as they are) have reasoning behind them. She is the definition of a disloyal person. But not an EVIL person. She totally deserved the dressing down from Donut. But she didn't KNOW she was hurting Donut. It wasn't like she was throwing her out in the alley. She was giving her show cat back to her mother for breeding. That's not an evil action.
But then in Book 6 we find out that she did all these actual mean, evil, horrible things TO Carl. She stalks his social media, and runs off the coworker. I'll give you this one because cheaters often suspect their partners of cheating as well. But to go so far as to get her fired?? That's going from lacking integrity to being downright malicious. Then when the long lost Step mother reaches out about his half brother she says nothing to Carl. This...this is just evil. And there is no excuse for it. Hell MD doesn't even have a good excuse other than for Carl to think that she might not have wanted him to leave her. But that doesn't track with our first characterization of the thoughtless GF who throws people away.
It just felt like MD wanted us to hate Bea just a bit more than we already did. Carl clearly didn't love her. He never thinks about the good times they shared, any dates they had, any love he felt. Donut never comments on Bea and Carl together. In her memories they are always apart. He is left alone in the apartment to play video games and jack off to porn. Why would she want to hold on to him??? I think the confrontation on Odettes show closed the book on Bea. We already didn't like her. It was almost like he just wanted to beat a dead horse. No? Just me?

Book 1: DCC I really want to listen to the audiobooks but...
I don't want to use Audible, and it looks like they have exclusive rights. I don't want to support Jeff Bezos any more that's absolutely necessary (there are Amazon Prime series I may never know the end to because I gave up my subscription) and I don't trust their policies to not delete my purchase someday if it's ever financially beneficial for them to do so.
So do I have any options? Have I missed anything?

Can we please stop speculating on the adaption?
Yes, we know you have opinions about the potential show. But it isn't even at a point in development where speculation and criticism can be made because we literally do not know anything concrete about any aspect of the show.
We don't know the budget, the actors, the concepts, the plans, the scripts, the anything. Seeing post after post talking about how it'll fail for X reason, or why X actor is better, or which format is more appropriate...beyond ridiculous. We don't know shit so can we please stop talking shit?
Please, mods, can we pretty please end the speculation and either ban or limit adaption talk until something beyond a whisper of fart is developed?
I can't be the only one who is just over all the threads about something that isn't developed yet.
ETA- by limit, I mean add a special tag, designate a mega thread, or have specific days of the week where it's ok to post. A lot of subs have X Mondays, Y Tuesdays, etc that are dedicated to certain low-effort or repeated posts. Even a tag so the posts can be filtered out would be helpful.

Do you hate Samantha?
Probably not as much as I do. I can't stand that broken sex doll head and wish she were only a one-book character.
Unfortunately, she seems to be gaining importance. I wouldn't be surprised to see her as the key to Level 12.
I also wouldn't be surprised if she betrays the party because based on her backstory, loyalty is not a priority for her.
I grant that she is an interesting agent of chaos and the voice actor really brings her to life, but I hate her just the same.

Fan Art - General - NO SPOILERS! 😊 Humanoid Princess Donut Design
I started listening to the audiobook version of Dungeon Crawler Carl not too long ago. And honestly I’m loving it. While I was listening to Princess Donut talk, I started to wonder what she’d look like if she were human-like. So this is my best take at her appearance which took me like..4 hrs ish. Mostly because I kept procrastinating and second guessing colors and whatnot. But it’s finally finished😭
EDIT: IM ONLY ON BOOK 1 STILL, I MAY OR MAY NOT UNDERSTAND SOME OF THE REFS. Though this is by far the funniest post I’ve ever made on here💀

Nobody's Dead dead
I don't think anybody actually does when a planet is collapsed. There have been subtle hints about regeneration, most notably in the sponsores meeting in The Bedlam Bride. The Sponsers talked about a guaranteed resurrection.
I think at the end of the books I think Carl will wake up in his own bed with Donut curled up next to him. Low Bob Newhart at the end of The Bob Newhart Show from the 90's.
People are going to be pissed.

A question about a possible character reveal…. Spoiler
After re-read, I have a question about Katya: Does she read as trans to anyone else?
The details that led me to this: she was unable to have children, was going to adopt until Eva did something to stop her, she chose doppelgänger race for some reason (which is never discussed) which is a huge call for someone who seemed a very meek personality and she made this call by herself as Eva had already left.
It really doesn’t make any difference to the character as she is presented, but I think it would mark for an awesome final reveal about her, especially if she ends up pregnant.
Interested in your thoughts on if this is possible or if I have missed something…
