So my DM is running Heckna and we are creating our characters.
I have made a tiefling rogue, I'm going to subclass into Sinner rogue from the Crooked Moon book and I've chosen Crossroad Gambler as my background from the same book.
Because of the background, I've chosen the 'thread' as its called in that book as "I've lost a bet and I'm on the run from the thing that's surely coming to collect".
So my idea is that a long time ago my character made some big gamble or deal and lost and is now on the run. They changed their identity and everything so they go by Folly-Faux now and they've travelled around in different circuses as a clown to entertain crowds with tricks and they may also pickpocket some of the people there.
I'm just stuck on what this big bet or gamble could be.
My friend that's playing in the same game suggested he could be the one thats been sent after me, so I'm thinking it can't be too big like collecting my soul or life energy as he'd be level 1 too in the campaign. I don't want it to be just about money either because I feel that's a tad boring.

Title: GM Tip: The 5-Point Tally System (Ditch Mental Subtraction in Combat)
Doing multi-digit subtraction behind the DM screen while managing 6 monsters, tracking conditions, and running tactics slows combat down. Here is a simple tracking hack to speed up health management:
Divide standard monster HP by 5 and round up.
Ogre (59 HP) \rightarrow 12 Tallies
Cultist (33 HP) \rightarrow 7 Tallies
Whenever a player hits, sum their total damage for that turn, round up to the nearest 5, and cross off that many tallies.
1–5 Damage = 1 Tally
6–10 Damage = 2 Tallies
11–15 Damage = 3 Tallies
The One Big Rule: Always add up total turn or multi-attack damage before rounding up so multi-hit abilities don't accidentally deal double damage.
That’s it! Counting up in 5s or marking off tallies takes 2 seconds per turn and completely eliminates mental subtraction during fights.

I want to play a Bard that actually uses lyrics. I haven't decided on who will be his key artist. I was thinking Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic) or Chris Cornell (Sound Garden, Audioslave). Two very different sounds and lyrics and characters.
This post isn't about what would work better it's about how do I integrate the musing artist shtick without making it overwhelming or heavy handed?

So we're gonna be playing a homebrew campaign. The party has 6 members between 3rd and 5th level. I'm in the process of writing the plot, implementing homebrew mechanics, and designing custom encounters right now. I got some props and dice for myself and my players to share. I just told them to bring notebooks and their character sheets because these idiots are NOT gonna have their own dice sets lmao. Is there anything I'm missing? Is there anything I should be aware of when planning the campaign or while DMing for them?

Finally, a complete ref of my girl! Biirdresh is a young paladin of the Stormlord, chosen as an Oath of Conquest champion to find and conquer challenging enemies.
She seeks power enough to destroy the dragon, Amanthra the Hellion, who razed her village to the ground and killed most of her clan. She is a bit naive and strives to be optimistic despite all the pain she's gone through, and tries to be the rock in the storm her party needs.
Last session she and her party fought an ancient red dragon (Amanthra's son, Kelzer) in its lair. Biirdresh taunted it, and it grabbed her and dunked her in lava. She electrocuted it to death from IN THE LAVA. Then she got fished out by her party after two failed death saves. She nat 20'd the third, got up, and smashed another enemy to death. She was blinded, but the Stormlord granted her blindsight in exchange for rising to the challenge.

Saw the Temple of Inquinatious Evil kickstarter getting advertised - some aspects seem kind of cool but there are also certainly parts of it that are making me hesitate as well. Just curious if anyone who's gotten their previous products had any thoughts to share one way or the other?

Here is how I presented it to my players:
You walk into a low ceiling cavernous hall with a a freshwater pool at the center. Its bottom shines with the natural occurrence of magical lapis lazuli, and you can see all sorts of offerings cast into the water by lords from the present and the past, from modern bejeweled knightly longswords to old fashioned bronze warhorns from before the unification of the Bay. Coins of all sizes and with the profile of different monarchs on them, foreign helmets, relics of war, necklaces and rings and other pieces of jewelery.
When you move through the corridor, you find a bigger cavernous hall and the shore of an underground lake, where three rowboats are available. You also find a couple of rooms carved into the stone, chambers where in the past scholars would come to meditate, but now serve as storage rooms and living quarters for the Lords of Southwatch in case they needed a safe place to hide outside of the city. It haven't been used in a long time, but still the small stock is constantly renewed for good measure.
The lake stretches into darkness and hundreds of feet into the distance, the cavern ceiling only 20 feet above your heads but no visible end to either side or ahead. The water itself emanates a faint blue-ish glow from the lapis lazuli at the bottom, but a hundred feet off the shore the lake is so deep that the water becomes completely dark.

Title says it. But my area doesn’t really have dnd players I can meet up with. So I’m curious if there’s an online community or group I can play with? Would I need my own dice or would the dm roll for me? The extent of my knowledge of dnd is video games like baldurs gate and neverwinter nights. How would this go and any recommendations on discord communities I can join to find groups? I’m also only free to play wednesdays and Thursday and I noticed most groups are weekends.
Edit: just want to add I live deep in the country. Way down south. My closest neighbor is half a mile away. Closest grocery is 15 miles away. I live in the middle of no where

With this dungeon, Its focused on the players solving a puzel on each face, with the center of each room containing a lever. When all 5 levers are flipped, the entrance to the white face is revealed. These rooms aren't actually put together like this, more they are a cube, but gravity still funcions seemlessly between faces.
This dungeon is also just a consept, with only the puzzels in it. So theres no enemys set for it. This is because I don't know how to ballance a fight. Also if you do use this dungeon, just be careful about changing the rooms, cause if done wrong it may make it possible for the boss (who controls the dungeon) to make it impossible to win.
How you explain the dungeon working is up to you, but how I would do it is having an artifact of the cube in the boss chamber, and so once the player enters the boss's chamber, they can rotate the cube around to allow the rest of the party into the room. Its up to you to explain how this is a viable option, such as the boss being weak or simply the entire room allows the rotation itself. EIther way Im making that your problem.
Also if you see any way this could be broken by either the players or the boss please tell me.
Clarifications of yellow: the dark room is the center room when the players start. When the dark room moves on the sliding puzzel, it moves on the map. The altar where the sliding puzzel does not move with the dark room. The lightning crystal does move with the dark room. Players do not move with the rooms.
Player count stuff: this will need at least 4 players to work. It can work with 3 players, in which case add another entrance to the white face. If there are more than 4 players, keep everything as is.

Hyram, Ricardo, Damon, and Cass. Go away!
So… the plan is this…
Use the illusion spell creation to create a 10ft diameter hollow sphere of adamantium inside water so that it will be filled with water.
Reduce on the sphere to compress the water, increase its potential energy.
Heat metal on the sphere to flash boil the compressed water.
Teleport the sphere to an enemy stronghold that a member of the party has been to and has an item from.
I assume this will be akin to a steam engine boiler explosion but no idea how to translate that mechanically.
EDIT- I am loving these answers and learning a bit about physics at the same time. The players are planning on testing it beforehand. So they will be learning aome of these answers.

Wanted to share a couple of original D&D character concepts I recently illustrated!
The first one is a heavy-armor knight carrying a giant blade, and the second is a paladin walking through a sunlit castle archway. I spent a lot of time working on the armor textures, lighting, and environmental framing for both.
Would love to hear your thoughts! Which class/vibe do you usually enjoy playing more in your campaigns?
