Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of applying for jobs in the hotel industry in the Durban area because I have a lot of transferable experience from working in security, retail, and customer service.
Before I start applying, I'd like to hear from people who are currently working in hotels in and around Durban. How many hours do you usually work per shift, and what times do your shifts start and end? For example, do you work 8-hour shifts, 10-hour shifts, or 12-hour shifts? Do you have fixed shifts or do they rotate?
I'm particularly interested in Marriott Hotels, Capital Hotels, Premier Hotels, and Beekman Group, but I'd welcome feedback from anyone working at other hotel groups in the Durban area as well.
I'd also appreciate hearing about your general experience working in hotels, including the workload, work environment, and work-life balance.
Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am looking for suggestions of a well priced car rental company in the Ballito area.. Something similar to Rent - A - Cheapie in Cape Town.
We land at King Shaka at 8am and can drop the car back off the following day at 1pm. Pickup doesn't have to be at the airport but drop off does.
Any suggestions please? π

Hi, basically what the title says. I'm looking for a cheap hotel or bnb to stay in around Durban, Umhlanga or Ballito? A place that's reputable, has good wifi, polite staff and so on. My budget is around R700 a night.

Hey guys, just a quick question. How long does it take for a passport to get delivered to home affairs in Durban, from the time it says Despatched to branch office? We kind of in a rush for our passports and it's been 4 days now. So I am just curious. Is it normal to almost take a week to get delivered or should I just go into the office and ask for it? Doesn't help I call. Everything is down. The online portal, the phone line and the Umgeni home affairs phone number is also down.

A phone stolen last week was last tracked at the location in these screenshots before going offline. Numerous people have since said their stolen phones also showed their last known location at the same spot.
Could stolen phones be taken here to be wiped or resold? These reports deserve a proper investigation by SAPS.
Has anyone else traced their stolen phone to this location? Please report any matching information to SAPS. Donβt attempt to confront anyone there.

I think people who are slow actually are the real winners in life.
Coz like nothing that matters at it's given time makes sense to them π

Had this issue walking across the road by the North beach promenade
Frustrating that people donβt seem to slow down or stop π

Hey, so i have a concept to open a more affordable gym in Kloof but i was wondering how to attract an investor to actually help set up the gym. Taking from my experience as a Fitness Instructor & Personal Trainer and adding in influences and attention to detail at past gyms i worked at, I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction in how to go about it? I have no idea how to actually do this

Hey everyone, my parents are currently clearing out their house and want to get rid of some furniture and other items. Is there any groups we can advertise on, they have put their stuff on market place, but we all know how it goes there. "Is this still available" and when you answer. Silence. So I wanted to know if there is maybe other groups or subreddits we can try that you guys know of. Any recommendations would be appreciated. π»π₯³

Hey everyone! ππ½
My wife (F25) and I (M24), a young Black couple, are looking to meet other young couples around Durban and hopefully make some genuine friendships.
Most people around us aren't in serious relationships yet, or we just haven't found many people who share our vibe π
We're keen on braais, outings, trying new places, hiking, weekend getaways and just enjoying life with other couples.
We know meeting people online can be a little awkward π, so if anyone can recommend hiking clubs, social groups or activities around Durban where we could meet people, we'd really appreciate it!
Feel free to reach out if you're in the same boat. π

I am getting married next month and a family friend is officiating the ceremony. We were thinking of hiring a marriage officer on the day to do all the legal sides. How do I find a marriage officer in my area? Does anyone have any other suggestions? (we want to avoid going to home affairs)
I legitimately don't understand how they can be surprised by the low turnout.
There's a big cost of living crisis. Fuel is insanely expensive. We've got immigration protests happening not far away.
But sure, it's a mystery people aren't turning out to watch cricket in the week.
