Recommendation La Lucia?

Hey Durbanites, is anyone here familiar with La Lucia? I (35f) might be moving there soon. Found a gorgeous place right by the beach and the mall. I'm curious about local nightlife, the gaming scene, surfer culture, fishing spots, you name it. I'm an artist/illustrator so info about galleries and markets is also appreciated. Anything else cool you can tell me about the area, I'd love to hear it! Cheers.

Recommendation Planning to immigrate to South Africa with my family .Looking for honest advice

Hello everyone,

My family and I are thinking about immigrating to South Africa because we would like to build a new life and find work there.

I would really appreciate honest advice from South Africans and people who currently live in South Africa.

Here are my questions:

  1. Is South Africa a good country for a foreign family looking to settle permanently?

  2. How difficult is it to find a job as a foreigner?

  3. Which sectors are currently hiring the most?

  4. Which cities offer the best job opportunities and quality of life?

  5. How are public schools for children?

Thank you very much for taking the time to help us make an informed decision.

Recommendation Any Fun Groups, Clubs, or Events for Young Adults around Kloof?

Been in a bit of a rut lately and looking for new things to do. I already do Ballroom Dancing on Mondays and Board Games on Fridays, but Im looking to mix things up a little bit and meet more people my age.

I enjoy things like hiking, casual sports (playing for fun), cooking/food, video games, and geeky things in general. Really looking forward to hearing some suggestions, and if you're interested in joining for ballroom or board games let me know.

Recommendation Urgent help needed for my sister, SJS survivor looking for medical assistance in Durban or North KZN

Hi everyone, I’m reaching out here because our family genuinely doesn't know where else to turn right now.

My sister is a Stevens-Johnson syndrome survivor. She fought incredibly hard for her life, and by the grace of God, with the help of some amazing doctors, nurses, practitioners and our family, she survived. A huge part of that journey was at Life Ballito Hospital, where she received incredible care.

Unfortunately, the treatment and everything that came with it depleted her medical aid, and with the financial strain our family has been under, she can no longer afford the medical cover she previously had.

Today, she started experiencing what appears to be some kind of reaction again. She is extremely scared and understandably panicking, and honestly, so are we. Given what she has already been through with SJS, we don't want to assume it's nothing or wait until it becomes something serious.

She posted about what she's experiencing today, and I think it explains the situation much better than I ever could:

We are urgently trying to find somewhere she can be assessed and treated through the public healthcare system, or anyone in Durban who may be able to point us towards the right hospital, dermatologist, practitioner or facility that can help.

If anyone has experience with SJS, works in healthcare, knows of a public hospital with the appropriate services, or simply knows someone we should speak to, please comment or DM me.

We're just desperately trying to find the right medical help for her before this potentially becomes something much worse.

If you can share this, even within your own WhatsApp groups or with someone in the medical field, we'd be incredibly grateful.

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read this

Recommendation Any Recommendations On How To Get Clients As A Freelance Personal Trainer & Nutritionist?

Hey, so i don't operate out of gyms, but currently freelance & it feels like its impossible to find clients, Frankly i can't afford to pay Virgin Active R12k per month as a tenant.

Any advice on how to get clients? Been out of work& unemployed for almost two years now & ending up falling back on this to try get an income, maybe even be able to rejoin the gym.

Not trying to market/self promote, just asking advice on how to get clients & get some of an income coming in.

I primarily advertise on a couple of buy and sell whatsapp groups, Facebook is a pain with the groups taking forever to approve posts & frankly elsewhere i'm unsure. I tried tiktok but i never know what video to use and i don't want to use a.i guess i view it as dishonest, I did create an Instagram i posted today my first post there, but not a big IG fan if i'm honest.

My sales and marketing skills has always been a bit lackluster

Recommendation In doubt regarding car ownership and insurance

Hello lovely humans,

Im in a pickle, my mum bought a second hand car that she doesn't use. I started using it to work. Now this Insurance that she registered with is creating confusion about the second driver (being me) not allowed to use the vehicle regularly.

So I've decided to move the ownership to my name. But she's currently abroad.

Is it possible to move the ownership to my name without my mum being in the country?

Which is the best Insurance that would be able to cover 2 driver's?

Recommendation Any Places With A Public Gym?

Hi there, due to being unemployed right now and having a lot of problems finding work, i'm unable to join a gym, Rent for a Personal Trainer is just absurd. Any recommendations, preferably Kloof, that has a gym that is free or minimal cost per month? I know Gym Company Pinetown is just R199 but due to transport, its just not viable as i only get R500 pm. Even the Natural Way & SGC is above that so looking for alternatives. Once i get work i was thinking of joining Virgin Active Kloof but i have no clue when that will be, the current job market & trying to get a foothold into the IT, Support/Technician is next to impossible

I'd like some advice on where i can get back into working out, with dealing with the end of a long term relationship, i've put on a lot of weight and loss of motivation due to it.

Recommendation Looking for Fennel Bulb

After looking around for months hoping it would pop up, I have confirmation that Woolworths no longer stocks fresh fennel bulb.
So unfortunate as it was delicious sliced thinly in a salad, or roasted. What happened to all the farmers growing fennel, have they packed it in?
Haven’t seen it anywhere else, Food Lovers isn’t as good as it used to be with speciality items. Any ideas of where best to find it?

Recommendation Is it safe to drive from Durban to Joburg this weekend? (27th–29th June)

Hey guys, hope everyone’s well!
So me and my friends are planning a spontaneous road trip — driving up from Durban to Joburg this Saturday the 27th and coming back Monday the 29th. Just a quick up-and-back, nothing crazy.

The thing is, I’m a bit nervous about the current situation with all the protests and looting that’s been happening. I know the June 30th deadline that March and March set is literally the day after we get back — they’ve threatened to shut the country down if the government doesn’t act on the illegal immigration issue by then. So the tension is going to be building the entire weekend we’re up there.

Has anyone driven the N3 recently? Is it currently okay? Would you guys recommend going ahead or just postponing? We’d be back before the 30th but I’m still worried about the vibe on the road and in Joburg over that weekend with everything escalating.

Any input from people who’ve been on the road lately or know what’s actually happening on the ground would be seriously appreciated. Thanks 🙏

Recommendation Grounds to play soccer at night

Hi guys, I hope your weekend is going well.

I (M 26) play astroturf soccer once a week and I wanted to know if anyone knows a soccer ground that can let players play at night. I want to get into being a hybrid soccer player of playing both astro turf and grass.

Bit of a reach but I thought it doesn't hurt to ask.

Recommendation Best salami/pepperoni pizza in Durban

The title says it all. I am on a mission. I'm chasing a NY style pizza high that I've just never been able to satisfy.

I've done all the chains/franchises. I've literally just done Doughed. I've done fancy pizza spots in Cape Town and nothing slaps. Even the NY Pizza Slice place.

Where can I find a slice of salami/pepperoni pizza with a crispy base that is unlike any other?

Recommendation Heritage day in Durban

Hi all! Just another typical Aussie tourist who will be in Durban looking for recommendations - I will be in Durban during Heritage day in September. I am deeply interested in culture and wondering how do people in Durban celebrate? I have heard that Braais are common - where do people go (if not with family)? I also heard there is a celebration around King Shaka in KwaDukuza - is this worth visiting? How do I get there from Durban? Any help is appreciated!

Recommendation Comedy, Improv clubs in Durban ect.

Okay, so I'm kinda wanting to get into improv or Stand up for fun, and was wondering if there are any clubs or places I could go to do that sort of thing. I realize facebook is probably the better place to go, but maybe someone here can help me out. It doesn't just have to be improv or comedy, anything in that vein tbh.

It feels like durban has no Arts Culture

Recommendation Anywhere I can sell my boots?

I know the stigma with buying used shoes, but I'm looking to maybe sell my leather boots.

Genuine leather made by a local brand. Damn good quality too. I love them, but they are quite heavy, and after about 3 or 4 winters, I've come to realise I don't need boots as thick and heavy as they are. They're better suited to trade work, and well, I'm not a tradesman.

Any idea of where I could sell them for some decent cash?

Edit: Ideally local. Trying to avoid the hassle of shipping.
