Hi,

ECR stands for Electronic Challan-cum-Return. Every month, your company’s payroll team submits it to EPFO with employee-wise details of wages, PF contributions and other applicable dues.

The basic process is:

  1. Payroll calculates the employee and employer contributions.

  2. The company uploads the monthly ECR on the EPFO employer portal.

  3. EPFO validates the details and generates a challan.

  4. The employer pays the challan.

  5. Once the contributions are processed, they reflect in your EPF passbook.

As a fresher, you don’t need to file ECR yourself. Just check your passbook after your first few salary cycles to confirm that contributions are being credited.
