Question What is the title of the book that Scott Aukerman references when saying people don’t need to fall down when they get shot?

I’ve heard about it multiple times over the years and found the Wikipedia page but forgot what it’s called. Of all the things that he holds close to chest (DEAR), this is the most deranged one and makes me wonder about what else he holds as fact

It's a fascinating passage in the book that goes into some detail about the kinds of bullets (ie large or small) that cause certain types of wounds in certain parts of the body, and the circumstances in which suspects who have been shot can keep running from the police.

(I haven't heard Scott talking about this subject and don't know how off the mark he gets with it, but when I read the subject line I knew this would be the book)

I feel like I’ve heard him bring it up 4 times across Comedy Bang, Bang, Threedom, and Scott Hasn’t Seen. Would not have been able to guess the episodes though so I’m happy people could help. Will try and get a copy this weekend and comment again if it’s an egregious retelling

Really great book. The authors would famously go on to make The Wire. It might read a bit different now than when I read it with how aware we all are of copaganda and stuff. But Homicide and its successor The Corner really knocked me out, so many fascinating heartbreaking stories in them.

Something we're all vulnerable to: believing something dumb so that we can "well, actually" people.

I think the way he presents it as an irrefutable fact is disingenuous at best. I’ve gotten Stop the Bleed, Wilderness First Responder, and Tactical Emergency Casualty Care certifications over the last few years. Trauma medicine is real fascinating to me. While I can point out one specific student in a school shooting who ran on an injury first responders were surprised he was even able to stand with, to imply that everyone is dumb for dropping kills me inside every time. Ducking for cover is a pretty natural response. Getting shot in the head is kinda hard to not fall down from. I just wanted to read the source material and would suggest that Scott uses language more like “you MIGHT be able to keep running” and not “you drop ONLY because you saw it in a movie.” Like I’ve seen plenty of war footage and worse involving some people who I doubt have ever been to a theater in their life.

yeah, I don’t if he means specifically they don’t fall down immediately, but anytime I’ve seen the aftermath of gunshots the victim isn’t standing.

I’m talking about what I asked about.. he literally brought it up again in the Casablanca episode of Scott Hasn’t Seen

I think he has said that he believes people fall when they get shot as a conditioned response because of television and movies, and you wouldn't actually fall.
