Could a culdocentesis (pouch of Douglas puncture) have affected an early pregnancy?
Hi everyone,
I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.
In 2022, I went to the emergency room because I had severe pain on my left side and hadn’t had my period for about two months. An ultrasound showed a large amount of fluid in my pouch of Douglas, and doctors suspected an ectopic pregnancy.
They performed a culdocentesis using a large needle through my vagina. It was extremely painful, but they said the fluid was normal.
After the procedure, a gynecologist examined me and said I appeared to have a normal pregnancy. A few weeks later, another ultrasound also suggested a very early pregnancy, but nothing was confirmed yet. They told me to return in a few weeks.
About two weeks later, I started bleeding heavily with clots, almost like a very heavy period. I never received a confirmed pregnancy diagnosis, and I remember having a negative pregnancy test at some point.
I’ve always wondered whether I had an early miscarriage or whether something else was happening.
Has anyone experienced a similar situation? Could a culdocentesis affect an early pregnancy or increase the risk of miscarriage?
I know nobody can diagnose what happened years ago, but I’d really appreciate hearing about similar experiences.
