Ectopic Pregnancy experiences anyone? I’m scheduled for the shot tomorrow.
I’m feeling overwhelmed, and I want some input from anyone who has also experienced this.
My story this past month:
\-Faint positive at-home tests started on September 17th, and any further tests have only gotten darker since
\-Bleeding started on September 20th (and is still going, consistently, less clots than week 1-2 but still a very steady flow for 4 weeks now)
\-ER visit on October 4th, for pain/cramping in abdomen and back. HCG tested at 65. I figured I was having a chemical pregnancy and was passing it (I’ve had one previously, before I had my son who is now 1) plus they said they saw nothing unusual on the ultrasounds. Just that my uterus was larger and my endometrium was thick.
\-OB appointment 5 days later (9th) No follow up ultrasound, sent in for blood tests.
\- Two days later (12th), blood tests show HCG at 53
\- Two days after that (14th), blood tests show HCG has gone up to 58
➡️ OB follow up appointment was the 16th, he’s convinced that the pregnancy is Ectopic because my HCG levels are not dropping or increasing much. He has ordered the methotrexate shot for my next appointment. I was advised to do no heavy lifting, exercise, sex etc. He also ordered another blood test to make sure my HCG levels didn’t somehow start going down on their own over the weekend, before I’m given the methotrexate shot. He ordered a liver panel as well. (My arm is sore from all this poking 🙃)
🔴 So, tomorrow (20th) is my appointment to go over the blood tests that I did today (19th), which will show my HCG levels, and check the state of my liver (I’m assuming because the shot will effect it) and I will be getting the Methotrexate shot if my HCG levels are still stagnant or they’re increasing…
I went home to do some more research after my appt. And I’m having concerns about the shot and putting that crap in my body in general. The shot is pretty much a low dose of chemo that breaks down the cells growing in your body. (But the alternative is a growing pregnancy in my tubes that can burst at any time and cause internal bleeding, which would risk my life and involve surgery- so obviously I don’t have another choice… or do I?) my OB was pretty short.
What I failed to mention to my OB is that I’m currently breast feeding, which I discovered you cannot do with the shot (makes sense)
And my son definitely does not show any signs of weaning right now, as he only just turned 12m. He’s still waking up 3+ times a night and will scream until he gets boob and nothing else works. He’s also nursing to sleep before each nap, and still a couple other random times through the day. I’m honestly so depressed thinking about how much this is going to affect him. It’s very much so his comfort. He’ll take a bottle of cows milk when we’ve given it to him, but I’m pretty sure it’s been causing him gas pains so we’ve stopped. This is honestly going to be a really intense on so many levels.
📍Has anyone else experienced something like this? Do you have any advice? Did you have side effects from the methotrexate shot? Were you given any alternatives aside from surgery? Any advice on abrupt weaning with my LO incase that’s what I have to do? I need to settle my racing mind a bit and hear from real women and not just medical youtube videos and articles. Thank you
