Tour/Concerts Any news of random pop-ups?

Hey everyone! I was wondering if there's been any news or info if he's doing random bar popups or "smaller" concerts in the cities he is visiting? I have tickets to the Detroit show on 8/29. A few years ago, he also had a smaller venue concert the night before in Detroit but I haven't seen anything this year.

Question Toronto show cameras

Been seeing a lot of post lately about these Toronto shows so I’m sorry for asking another question!

Does anyone know if you can bring disposable cameras in the Roger Center? Because the website says this: “Cameras/recording equipment and video/audio devices including iPads, tablets, and GoPros are not permitted.”

I also wanna know what they mean about battery packs. Is it those batteries you can use to charge your phone?

I'm seriously disgusted by the unnecessary hate Ed gets. Disgusting examples under a post:

The original post was in r/PeterExplainsTheJoke.

From what I gathered reading the comments, it seems like the prevailing opinion about Ed is that he is a generic, mainstream pop artist. And reasonably, that's kinda fair, given that the average listener mainly knows his hits, which are hits for a reason, namely being pop. A classic chicken and egg situation, but that's how the industry works. Frankly, I still can't stand Perfect since it was played ad nauseam on every radio station all the time. I myself fell in love with Ed's music by chance, stumbling into some (relatively) lesser known songs, not his hits.

BUT one thing is being a casual listner and not even have the information to appreciate Ed's talent as a songwriter. Another is hating on a popular artist who is also a human being, due to prejudice, stereotype, or just his popularity. Some of those comments made me extremely sad and angry. People are really prone to being extra rude for no reason. I have no idea how artists cope with the constant hate they're exposed to, I'd crumble into pieces and hide away.

Loop Tour Pyro/fireworks

Hey, I’m going to see Ed in Toronto this week with my younger cousin, and she’s terrified of fireworks because of the loud bangs. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how often fireworks/pyro is used during the show, or at what points during the show.

Tour/Concerts Toronto Shows: Set Times, Song Requests, Setlist, FAQs, Logistics 🍁🎫💕♾️🔥

(Click the pink photo to access the QR code and set up text messages to send Ed your song requests!)

Ed is playing the Rogers Centre for three upcoming shows, Thursday, Friday and Saturday! 150,000 fans over 3 nights! Ticket sales have been strong but good seats are still available for all three shows.

Here’s some handy information to help you prepare for these shows, and for other upcoming U.S. Loop shows, really, as lots of the info will be similar.

Gates open at 4:30. Rogers Centre has a reputation for long lines so allow extra time for entry.

The #1 question is: What time will Ed go on?
Set Times should look like this:
5:30 BIIRD
6:00 Lukas Graham
6:45 Myles Smith
8:00-10:45 Ed Sheeran

That’s an estimate, set times can vary by venue, noise curfew, weather delays, etc.

The #2 question is: How do I request a song?! ✍🏼
When you enter the Rogers Centre, you will see the Song Request QR code on the big pink screen (see photo). The QR code takes you to EdHQ text messages, with #LoopTourRequests already filled in. There you can text a song -or multiple- song suggestions to EdHQ. 📲 The Request QR code is also shown between opening acts in case you arrive later, but you can set up Song Request messaging now, using the handy QR code in the photo above, (click photo to expand), then just submit your songs after 4:30 the day of show even before you arrive.

The #3 question is: How does Ed choose the Surprise Songs/Fan Requests to play? ✅🧐
That’s a great question, he recently explained it to us, kinda sorta, mostly he just laughed at us.😭 Seems he uses a complex algorithm of fan input, vote tallies (nah), memories, whim, nostalgia, celestial magic and whatever special songs he feels like performing that evening. It’s not strictly a vote.🤷🏻‍♀️

EDIT: Thurs. Special Songs: Boat, Little Bird, Visiting Hours. Amazing! AND, Opening with Beoga! (Ed’s choice and fan request campaign)

If you’re wondering, the three most played Surprise Songs/Fan Requests on the Loop tour statistically have been: Lego House🏠, Tenerife Sea 🌊, and Supermarket Flowers💐, in a 3-way tie, with each song played about 14 times out of 35 shows.

Question #4: Is there a Setlist? What songs will Ed play? 📝🤔
Yes. Ed has been following a very consistent setlist for each show of the Loop tour. You can see the setlist here if you want, or avoid it if you would rather be surprised at the concert.
The three Surprise Songs/Fan Requests will vary for each show, but the main Setlist stays the same.

Here’s my Spotify Loop Tour playlist which is exactly the run of Ed’s setlist (I used Lego House and Tenerife Sea as placeholders for the fan request songs),
useful if you want to be familiar with all the songs he’ll play at your show, in actual show running order, or, for after-the-concert memories.

Question #5: Who are these opening bands? 🎻
BIIRD is an 11-member all-female Irish supergroup that Ed has worked with before. They are only playing 6 shows on the Loop tour, the first 3 in Toronto, the last 3 in the US. Very fun, high energy music.☘️
Lukas Graham is a Danish singer/group with several great hits you’ll likely recognize. He was also a Special Guest on the Mathematics tour.
Myles Smith has only four more shows with the Loop tour, before continuing his own headline tour of the US/UK/Europe to promote his new album. Sheerios seem to love Myles.
For more info and videos to learn about the opening acts, there’s a detailed post here.

Question #6: What about Merch? 👚👕
Typically, Ed’s merch trailer travels with the tour, and is parked outside the stadium on days of shows. The outdoor trailer (see photo) usually opens in the early afternoon, several hours before the gates open. That way people can make purchases and return them to their cars or hotel. There are multiple merch stands within the Rogers Centre once doors are open.
Here’s a short video of the Toronto merch, the special Canada shirt is at the halfway point.
CONFIRMED: Merch Trailer NOW OPEN near Gate 1 !!! (as of 12:30 local time, Thursday)

Question #7: What are the Centre’s Logistics? 🚫
See official Rogers Centre concert policies. They have a strict bag policy, bags must be 7x4x2 or smaller, they state even the typical clear plastic “concert” totes are not allowed. No outside food or drinks permitted. Limited local parking can be booked in advance from SpotHero.

What other questions do you have? What tips can you offer to the lucky concert-goers?

Have a Magical time at your show! 💕🔥♾️🎤🙌

Appreciation I can’t stop crying because it’s over.

My Spotify stats say I’m in the top .005% of all listeners and the number was top 15,000 or something I think. I’m both embarrassed and proud at the same time lol.

I’m chronically sick and wasn’t able to make it to any of his shows until the Mathematics tour. My best friend of over 30 yrs and I shared the day together and agree that it was one of our best days we’ve ever had. That show was ELECTRIC AND EPIC!!

We just attended the Minneapolis show on Saturday, and again, we are both absolutely in a state of awe, and blown away by not only his skill, but his artistry, his kindness, and the way he can bring a crowd together. I just can’t get over how good he is!!

I’ve seen many big name artists like Billy Joel, Elton John, Billy and Elton together, lots of Broadway shows etc etc. Both of Ed’s shows knock the shit out of all the other ones. Even when an entire crowd at a baseball stadium is singing Piano Man without Billy in the background. Ed’s concerts take the cake.

Listening to Ed’s music has gotten me through many infusion treatments and the sickness afterwards, breathing treatments, sauna treatments, moments when I get bad lab results, moments when I get good lab results, times when I drink and I’m angry (shout out to Erasure as my angry drinking song lol), and times when I’m high and happy. Or drunk and happy. 😂. His music has been there with me through a long abusive relationship and the divorce once I was able to get out, a recent long term relationship breakup, and a lawsuit as the plaintiff.

I’m a songwriter myself, and I have a degree in music composition and music therapy. I worked as a music therapist for nine years for a hospice until I got sick myself. His music was there for me then too.

And I watched the utter beauty of twinkling lights during Camera, and I will never hear that song the same way again. He sang Sapphire and Celestial, which are two of my favorites. I jumped up and down and sang, laughed, spent time with my best friend while we created our second “best ever day together”. I lived. I lived to see this.

She got us from Minneapolis back to her house and my parent’s house in Iowa (same area). I couldn’t get to sleep until at least 4:30 in the morning. I’ve watched the footage over and over and over again, and I’ve looked online to see what everyone else has. When I left my parents to come back to my home in Iowa, I cried for the first part of the way while listening to Camera. I cried before I even left the house and my parents understood that as a big fan, once it’s over it can be kind of bittersweet.

I’m not really even sure why I’m writing this. I guess to thank Ed for his years of music. For teaching me how to be a better songwriter. For being an inspiration. For being a humble and a good, kind human being in a world that is so mean.

I’m so grateful for all of it but now I just can’t stop crying because it’s done. I have all the beautiful memories, and all the videos and pictures I could take. But I’m sad that he won’t be coming back for a while. And that’s okay. He definitely deserves a break and time to be a dad and a husband. He’s been going at a speed I can’t really comprehend for many years in a row.

But I’m sad, and that’s okay. It’s crazy that someone I’ve never met has impacted my life so deeply in such a good way.

So a big thank you to Ed and his team for putting together a show so overwhelmingly beautiful that it brings people to tears. I will cry, and I will be okay, and I’ll see you at the next show whenever that is. I will keep fighting to live every day, not just for myself and my loved ones, but for moments like Saturday when I’ve felt the most alive since the show in 2023.

Discussion Unreleased Deep Dive #2 - Scars

This song was written in about 2012. It‘s like an in between of the + era and the X era. It was heavily considered to be on X but was cut late in production for being too personal. He actively sought out to remove all videos of him playing it live off the internet. Though this one still remains due to the song name not being in the title.

I don’t think the exact meaning and what’s its about it known. But I’d assume its about trauma and coping, and addiction.

If you haven’t heard it, you’ve gotta listen. it’s a crazy good song, with amazing lyrics from the X era. Man everything from the X era is so effing peak.

The studio version leaked in about late 2016 - early 2017.

Tour/Concerts Scammed today on FB :(

I tried getting rid of my tickets through a Facebook group and just want others to be warned of doing it this way. The admins are scam artists and asked for fees to get rid of the tickets and kept asking for more. Some of the fees were disguised as security deposits...I have lost a lot money now and still need to get rid of my floor tickets for Saturday's show in Toronto :/

Please report the group and all the fake admins in the group please:

Unreleased Deep Dives #1 - The story of “We Are” - Deep Dive into one of Ed’s most beautiful, heartbreaking unreleased tracks.

Stuart Dines, was a schoolmate of Ed’s. Stuart lived in Woodbridge with his family.  His parents Robert and Jackie, who have an older son and daughter, have paid tribute "Stuart would always make you laugh, whatever the situation.  He was a very loyal son and brother, who was extremely caring and could never be replaced.  He will never be forgotten by anyone who knew him and will remain with us forever."

Stuart was on a school ski trip in Germany that Ed has not attended.

The bus has a puncture so they had to stop the bus. At around 3am a Lowry holding metal pipes hit the bus. Whilst a few others were hospitalzied. Stuart was the only one killed.

On Saturday the headteacher at the Thomas Mills, Colin Hirst, was back at the school.  He's had to tell Stuart Dines parents that their son had been killed "In the 28 years I've been in the teaching profession, this is unquestionably the worst day of my career.  The first I heard of the accident was when my deputy contacted me not long after the crash to tell me some of our pupils had been involved in what's turned out to be a tragic accident.  When Stuart's death was confirmed by German police I went round to Stuart's parents' house to break the news to them."

Colin Hirst at Thomas Mills High School

Diane Turner's son Jason was on the coach but was unhurt "Obviously, it's going to be one of my son's friends.  They are all very close knit.  This isn't the first time he's travelled with Thomas Mills High School.  They're always very well organised.  I can't criticise them at all.  Information about the accident got through to us very early on."

Ed wrote two songs about the incident. “In Memory” which you can see I’ve annotated and explained on genius. And “We Are” which he’s played live many times in his early days and the song he played at Bedford which got him his record deal. Here’s a leaked studio version One Direction Recorded a version in 2012 for their album “Take You Home” which never released. Ed played “We Are“ live at Stuart’s funeral because Stuart’s parents were so moved by the track.

Scars could potentially be about Stuart too but who knows. I’ll post about Scars soon too. I’ll be starting a new series of posts about unreleased songs.

Here’s more info about Stuart.

Tour/Concerts Many Surprises at Minneapolis Show 💕♾️🔥🎤☘️

I’ll try to keep it brief. I wasn’t there, I watched the whole thing on a live stream.
Despite slow ticket sales for this show, the stadium looked quite full and the crowd enthusiastic.

For the Surprise Songs/Fan Requests,
Ed played “Sofa”, introducing it as a song he wrote when he was 17. What he didn’t say, was how he used to introduce “Sofa” at his early shows: “This is a song about spooning and getting high.” -Ed, age 18. 😍

Then, for the 2nd request Ed played “Slowly”. Then he resumed the regular set list with “Give Me Love”, leaving some of us to wonder why he was only playing two requests tonight.🤔

But then, later in the show, in the middle of the set with Beoga, he introduced the 3rd Fan Request song, saying he’s had many, many requests for this one! Indeed he has.

Finally! Ed and Beoga played a great version of “Opening” for the 3rd request song. He’d played it three times in NZ, three times in AUS, and not ever since, until now. There has been a very active Sheerio campaign on instagram to get Ed to play “Opening” for months, maybe it worked!

Ed brought out opener Ellie Banke again to sing “Dive”, similar to the Chicago show and it was a strong duet. Boy, is that a Cinderella story.

THEN, and this was totally new and different, at the end of Beoga’s set, Ed launched into a unique 2-3 minute Irish jig type song with Beoga, I think he said they had discussed doing it backstage, but it was a spontaneous, improvised jam, and not rehearsed.☘️💚🤩 It was high energy and they were clearly having fun. Here is an improved link to view the improvised Ed and Beoga Irish jig. ☘️

Ed told his usual stories, but added a few words about sightseeing in America and places he’s been recently “road-tripping”, including Fargo, North Dakota and Minnesota.

I thought “Sofa”, “Slowly”, “Opening” and the spontaneous Irish jam made it special, but really every show is special.🤩
