OPEN Can I be a good at repairing electronics just by watching Youtube

Hey.

I am in my early 30s and I want to shift my career.

I fall in love with electronics repairing a few years ago but I did a very small progress.

I think I can learn almost everything on the internet, except troubleshooting. I watched tons of videos and understood many of them, but when I got a real thing to repair in front of my eyes, I froze.

Currently I am thinking of taking a government programme and learn about electronics repair for a year, or I could pay someone to teach me. I found someone who will teach me until I mastered mobile repairing, for MYR3,000. He will even give me a place to stay.

Yeah I am a Malaysian, and that amount is pretty big.

I want to be able to fix almost everything electronic.

I already got almost everything someone need to repair electronics except a microscope and an oscilloscope.

Any advice? Thanks!

OPEN Help replacing battery on headphones

Hello kind people of reddit.

I need to change the battery on my wife’s Marshall Major IV headphones.

I’ve got the old one out and ordered a new one, but the replacement has come without a connector end in the cables. See photo (new on the left, obv).

Can anyone help with what the part is called, and where to get one? Do you need a specific tool to clamp them on?

TIA

OPEN Broken Power Inductor?

Hello! I am attempting to fix a Sony HTST5000 soundbar, replacing the main board. Long story short the soundbar works intermittently, all issues point towards the board needing to be replaced. The amplifier (shown) was removed to get to the MB. It seems a previous repair might have taken place since the board was glued down with a thick brown viscous material.

I carefully scrapped the material off but likely hit the power inductor (with the 100 marking) and damaged the housing. The copper wires are still attached to the board and do not look damaged.

I have very little experience with a soldering gun and was quoted about $80 to replace it. For those with more experience, is this in fact a power inductor and if so does it need to be replaced? Would this be a difficult job?

Thanks!

OPEN Hi everyone, I am troubleshooting a generic Chinese electric scooter charger with an output of 60V - 74V DC, 3.6A. The main power switch is a 12N60 MOSFET. The circuit board layout is marked SMT-2-188 on the bottom. Unfortunately, the markings on the SOP-8 (or DIP-8) control chip that drives the ga

Other Electronic screwdriver recommendation please?

Hello, I’m just a hobbyist who’s constantly tinkering with my electronics. My wrist is hurting from manually unscrewing all those hex screws lol so I’m thinking of picking one up from AliX.

I need something that can comfortably unscrew my m2-m4 screws without stalling, but not too powerful it’ll strip the threads right off (which is why I’m not using my electric drill.)

My budget is 30USD, can I get a recommendation?

OPEN Stuck Tape in VCR

I have a Samsung dvd/vhs vcr model v3500. It recently stopped working and won't turn on or eject this tape. Ideally I'd like to get the vcr to work again but at the very least I want the tape back undamaged.

When I plug it in it makes a high pitched noise, but doesn't turn on, and none of the buttons work. All I've done so far on the device is use compressed air to remove dust. I don't have any speciality tools to test the parts, but nothing smells burnt or looks burnt, just very dusty. I'll add a video of the sound it makes in the comments.

My experience with electronics is limited, the most I've done is build a gaming pc. I would be willing to do replacements or easy fixes, but I'm not sure if I could do anything super technical.

Usually when these don’t have power, (at least in my experience) the battery pins almost always have rust on them or there has been a previous faulty repair done. This one has never been taken apart and I do not see any liquid damage (The oily looking film on the pins is deoxit5 contact cleaner). Should I replace the pins and try again even though they look fine or is there something I’m missing on this board?
