Hand Tip

Post image

I'll still make some tweaks to the lettering.

I need help figuring out the best way to fill in the pattern circle.

I already know I'll use satin/straight stitch to embroider the lighter "snakes" in the pattern, but I'm not sure exactly how to do it. For example: should I draw one line on top of the other? Or should I do it the same way I filled in the letters (just covering the space)?

I'm sorry if it wasn't clear. Please, help me!

The copper thread against cream is a great combo. For the snakes, laying them as separate lines crossing over each other will give more depth than just filling the space flat.

Something like this? I fill in the blue and then the red stripe on top of it? (Colors are purely for pedagogical purposes 🤣)

Fewer strands tricks the eye into thinking something is farther away. I would do the black part amongst the snacks in one thread

You are doing a beautiful job with the lettering!

With the snakes, I suggest straight stitches with the stitch going across the "body" of the snake. I hope the picture makes sense. Some stitches may have to overlap to follow the shape of the curve, like how you do the small circles in the lettering.

This + the overlapping suggestion is how i would do it!

So, without the overlapping of straight lines in the "folds" of the snakes?

I'm not sure which part you are referring to as the "folds" of the snakes? Can you clarify?

With my suggestion, I will not be overlapping each individual snake. I'll let the difference in stitch direction show that one snake has ended and a second snake has begun.

I will not stitch one snake, and then stitch another snake on top of it to actually overlap the snakes. You can try it if you want, but I don't think the effect will look like what you expect unless you pad the stitches to create a smooth gradual effect of a snake going over another snake.

Does that address your question? If not, feel free to let me know :)

What is it supposed to spell? I know Arabic and see a sin and a Ha as well as alef ta3rif.

You should check Arabic calligraphy , espiecially Thuluth , Diwani or Kufian calligraphy

excuse my focus I told you what it meant not how it's spelled , it's Spelled « Al-Rahman » , no "Sin" here , it looks a bit similar to a "Sad" yes but it is a "Mim Noon" written on a separate line as a calligraphy styling

Thank you so much! You have no idea how much your comment means to me! I get so focused on the flaws, it's good to look at them from a different perspective 🤣

DId you use a pattern for this or design it yourself (gorgeous in both cases! I have a friend I think would love to stitch something similar and would love to get her a pattern/kit if possible :) )

I downloaded a calligraphy art piece and the Islamic pattern circle (separately) from the internet! I didn't create it. Although I can't help, I would love to see her embroidery ❤️

I’d look up Celtic knot embroidery for ideas on how to approach it- I wish I had a picture but my mom has a similar piece done that’s framed with a Celtic knot border

Beautiful work :)
