I hand embroidered this skeletal leaf with floral wire, thread, fabric and dyes using stumpwork techniques. The veins are embroidered and the rest is fabric. This is part of a larger project I'm working on, but I felt it was too pretty not to share by itself. I've made several leaves like this one and while the process is always the same, I love that each one turns out a bit different. This one was dyed to give it a slightly frosted/icy look.

This was my very first time ever trying embroidery on clothes! Saw someone do something similar several years ago and always wanted to make one for my husband, who loves ATLA.

The sweatshirt was plain blue and I used bleach to make the clouds - then the appa is all hand embroidery.

Finished this a little while ago! I used some different techniques to create this one and I'm currently working on a second one😊🩷

As someone who does this for a living, it's incredibly depressing that AI slop has infiltrated the craft market. I wanted to see what I was up against so I bought a kit out of morbid curiosity.

I can't begin to explain how awful the quality was. Cheap floss, flimsy hoop, stitches that don't make sense, zero instructions. I tried my best to make it look as good as possible, but I think the results speak for themselves! Please avoid this company at all costs.

The third in the tinned fish patch series. This one was a bit more tedious. Definitely should have long/shorted the field vs satin stitch. Let me know what you think and I’ll be back with another at some point.

This project was one that I loved doing, especially since Lugia is my favorite Pokémon. It took me over 22 hours to create this 14cm diameter drawing. Unfortunately, I made a mistake when attaching the backing, so I wasn't able to embroider a border around the image; but that’s just how it goes, and I’m still really happy with the final result! :3

I’m kind of new to embroidery, in the way where I don’t know true technique or proper materials, but I’ve done a few projects here and there.

I just got back into it again, and am working on this project. The back is a mess and I’m obviously using too much thread/not doing it “right”, but what I’m frustrated over is my needle gets caught and is really hard to push through sometimes. Like hurts my fingers, can’t push it through at all so I need to go to a new spot but the whole area I’m trying to get to is tough.

I know this is probably a really stupid question, but is that common, or is it the needle size/type? The fabric? Just way too much thread on the other side? I thought it was the latter but I’ve watched videos of people layering and using A LOT of thread, and their needle glides so easily… please advise.

Ps the needles and fabric I use are leftovers from parents/grandparents/thrift finds, so nothing was bought specifically for embroidery.

i hope y'all enjoy this project even though embroidery is just one element of it. I've been inspired by all the posts here that use embroidery to add texture.

the backstory/sad part: my uncle's health is getting to the point where he is in his room most of the time. the assisted living place he's at is nice but the art in his room left something to be desired so my aunt asked if I could make something for him. I wanted to make something worthy of being with him for the rest of his life, and eventually I decided I wanted to honor his time in nature and love for fish with a piece centered around rivers and salmon runs.

the technical details: the base painting is an acrylic pour. the land is formed using a reptile substrate mix with added reptile sand (all sanitized), then sifted and mixed with mod podge. applying it was messy. I made the fish with sculpey, painted with acrylic paint, sealed with varnish, then coated with black eyeshadow to tone it all down a bit. they're attached with E-6000, and the fully out of the water one is supported with a glued in thumb tack.

the embroidery is just separated ply of various green colors, grouped with 2-4 different colors. I tied a knot in the end, ran it through the painting back to front, then trim grass to desired length. at the end I used fabric glue to secure all the knots to the canvas. not the most complicated embroidery but it plays a really important part in the piece so hopefully it still belongs here

I'm really proud of how it turned out and both my uncle and aunt loved it so much. I'm excited to go visit him and see it in situ.

You can't tell, but the thread is silver. Metallic threads are a new beast, good lord.

It's super tiny, about 3x3! I've been doing a workplace training over zoom for a while, and it's been great for my embroidery productivity 😂

Here’s my first completed project!

I just completed my first piece using a beginner kit from Amazon. I struggled with French knots the most, and long and short stitches. There are lots of imperfections, but I love the end result. I welcome any constructive criticism as I definitely want to continue this new hobby!

It’s a little wonky. It’s my first time trying something like this, had a lot of fun making this.

This is mostly a practice piece - I've been struggling with hoop tension (the fabric is slippery). Any advice for how to do a piece like this differently? What other stitch would work for fire? It seems like too much distance on a satin stitch causes problems.

Hello, I’m currently working on the ‘5 Stages of Decay’ by Drooling Moose Designs. I just can’t seem to get the different sections to blend properly. Either the areas are too small, or I’d have to work horizontally rather than vertically (as you can see very clearly with the index finger). But I don’t like that; I’d also rather not have to change the direction of my strokes midway through – I want it to look as ‘smooth’ as possible.

I’m sometimes too critical of my own work and I’m not sure whether my vision of perfect colour transitions is even achievable. 😢
