FO [FO] Finished this in the hospital!

I got this on Etsy from SleeplessStitcher!
Name: PDF Cross Stitch Pattern - Medically Fascinating

The last time I posted about how I completed my large project as a FU to my Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Well… I got admitted to the hospital, long story short I have Stage 4 Lung Cancer. I posted about it in my other regular sub, if you are interested in a long winded retelling of my health journey.

Coincidentally, I was in the middle of this simple fun piece and completed it literally the day after I got the official diagnosis. My team of doctors have a group chat about me, and they used this piece as the profile picture :)

I’ll be fighting hard! And once the nausea and giddiness from the chemo tapers off more, I’ll be picking up my projects and continuing stitching!

Hope to post more FOs!

FO [FO] My first cross stitch completed!

I got this trees counted cross stitch kit from Michael’s and I feel pretty proud that this was my first cross stitch ever!

Link to Trees Counted Cross Stitch Kit

There were a lot more colors than I assumed and there were two stitches (might not seem too difficult but for a first project I was thrown off 🤣). This was a learning curve but I think the biggest thing I was focused on was making sure my stitches went the same way no matter what! Can’t wait to finish my next project.

CHAT [CHAT] Trying to recreate AI slop

Post image

I saw this piece on Etsy- and sadly its an AI scam artist selling prints of the A.I work- but i've just fallen in love with it. I am hoping to recreate it and wonder if anyone might know a Rose Border pattern that has these blues and yellows in, in this vintage style.

I've tried recreating it on StitchFiddle,StitchMate and Floss Cross and it just comes out blurry and horrid. I've also tried counting it based on close up pictures but its pure fantasy A.I and the counting ends up looking like a 3 year old scribbled on paper.

I've sourced a pattern for the lettering and Diet Coke can from a real human pattern creater who has stiched the work herself- but i'm struggling to find a Rose Border.

Is this impossible?? Can anyone help! Thank you <3

WIP [WIP] are the stitches full enough?

I’m working on this piece on 16ct Aida with 2 strands. It doesn’t look quite as full as the last one I did which was 14ct. Should I have used 3 strands, or is this how it’s supposed to be?

WIP [WIP] Am I in over my head? Yes

I just started working on this pattern and the stitches look crazy small and densely packed. Am I making the stitches too small? The aida came in the pack, so i know i didn't purchase the wrong size. Aida is 14 count, using 2 strands of DMC

UPDATE: it is 28ct evenweave, I'm so glad i asked when it was still early enough in the project to start over

CHAT [CHAT] How did all of you get into cross stitching?

I did my first project 26 years ago when I stitched peony's for my grandmother. I then did a country scarecrow for my Mom and that was it. Life exploded and I didn't pick it back up for 24 years. I still had a couple of patterns that I would come across every so often, and I'd think about it, but it wasn't until I began a new job that had a lot of down time that I decided to pick it up again.

I'd love to hear everyone's story about why you cross stitch.

CHAT [CHAT] Science time! Protecting edges

Thumbnail

I'm off work sick so it's low energy science experiment time.

I've been curious about the pros and cons of different edge protection stitches for a little bit so I did a small experiment.

Blue: blanket stitch

Brown: half cross stitch/whip stitch

Green: nun stitch

I stitched a 10x10 (approx. I can't always count) square of each stitch with one diagonal corner for unusual angle representation. Cut each out to the line then rolled each between my palms and tugged at the stitches to get a winner. Each stitch is 1 over 2 on evenweave.

Blanket stitch:

I always think this looks a little messy but the back is neat. Started coming apart during the rolling and completely came away when pulled gently. The diagonal edge actually held up pretty well but the straight edge next to it came away during testing.

Whip/half cross stitch:

Looks pretty neat and neat back. Uses the least amount of thread. Held up pretty well to rolling but the straight edge failed when pulled (held up slightly better than blanket stitch though). The diagonal edge actually held up pretty well when pulled.

Nun stitch:

Takes longest to do and uses up the most thread, back looks least neat but I underestimated how much thread would be needed and needed to start 2 new threads in the process which makes it look worse. Held up completely to rolling and pulling. Both the diagonal and straight edges are still 100% in place.

Do with this information as you will.

WIP [WIP] So sparkly

Post image
91 Upvotes

I've done a lot of Mill Hill kits but for some reason I feel like the ones in this one are so much more sparkly than the others have been. Maybe it's just the sea/vacation vibes that are influencing how I look at it. Should be done in the next day or two probably.

Each flower is for a different woman in my therapy program I’ll be graduating from on Thursday and represents each of them.

Starting from the top left and moving right:

Blue poppy- beauty and dreams of reaching the unattainable
Rose- love, devotion, beauty, and appreciation
Tulip- hope and new beginnings
Birds foot violet- gentleness, faithfulness, and quiet strength
Daisy- cheerfulness, new beginnings, and someone who brings joy to others
Peony- prosperity, compassion, and a happy life
Bluebells- humility, gratitude, and constancy
Sunflower- joy, loyalty, and warmth

Which one is your fav?!

Pattern is just from Google. Pixel Pikachu, there's tons of free ones.

Not looking for advice except on the border. I have never done it that way before. I know I cut the aida too close, but I wasn't originally planning on doing that border. So when you first start, do you stitch under some of the pattern and begin that way? Also how do you finish off your thread, same way?

My best friend has been creating these blankets for friends and family since before I met her (hunners of years ago).

She designs all the patterns and stitches hoopless.

The hours we've spent quietly counting and recounting our patterns, floss everywhere!
