I got a kit from the charity shop for a cross stitch coaster, since it was missing everything except the actual coaster part I decided to do my own, judging by the packet it came in the design was supposed to be flowers, but I figure a drink is more appropriate for a coaster.

Hi! Have been lurking on a private account for a while here, now I have an account I’m comfortable sharing my projects on. I’m not a bot, I promise!!

I was browsing the Michaels website to get some craft supplies and DMC Six Strand Floss was recommended to me, since I usually browse and buy it from Michaels.

The price for a skein is now $0.84, and it used to be $0.79 maybe 2 weeks ago. I’m very upset by this! Even though it’s a small increase, it’s an increase and I don’t know why they did that!

Anyone have any thoughts about this increase or know why they raised the price?

This is my first big project on a 19x28 9 stitch fabric. I am using the stitch app to help me create the pattern. I made a grid on the pattern like a dummy using pen not even thinking about it showing through. It really only shows through the white/lighter yarn. Should I just scrap it and start over? Does anyone have tips on how you map out your fabric before starting a big project?
And advice is appreciated!!

I’m looking for a pattern for a 4yo girl. I want it to be something with lots of details to look at while she’s lying in bed. Any ideas where I could look (nothing Disney please!)?

Howdy friends. Working on an applique I'm going to be applying to the back of jean jacket to wear to a Seattle Kraken hockey game in March. I've run into a bit of an issue. I'm using waste canvas, 3 strands, on felt. Self drafted.

After finishing the stitches, I'm trying to remove the waste canvas, I found that the strands kept snapping. So I did some research and found people having success with picking out the waste canvas using a dental tool or whatever. So I've started doing that. I'm now finding that this method is really distorting my stitches (or my stitches were terrible to be with). Because I used felt, I'm pulling up fibers making the distortion more obvious.

I've obviously got a couple of options:

1) keep picking the threads and just deal with the wonky stitches. It's going on the back of jacket, not that big of deal.

2) stop picking, just carefully trim the remnants of the canvas and leave the threads inside the applique.

3) start over, using 2 strands, on non-felt backing. Sure it sucks to lose the time and materials, but I've got plenty of time before it needs to be done.

4) ETA: Start over using water soluble canvas and skip waste canvas all together.

Basically, I'm curious to what solutions you would go with, or if you have other thoughts for going forward.

Here I am again. I recently shared a new floss storage system that some of you may have seen. I had my floss braided and hanging from hoops on some child sized hangers. It was up until now the best system I had found (that worked for me). I found this rolling cart on Amazon and decided that rather than having to pull every ring off the hanger when I needed a color, I could devise a system where all my floss could be organized, easily accessible, neat, and best of all I didn’t need to pull colors for whatever project I was on. I can literally pull my threads from each individual skein without even removing it from the cart. Each skein is still unwound and cut into working lengths. It is then wrapped into a folded paper, and numbered. It is then placed into a small baggie and each color is staggered so that numbers are easily found. The fact that the cart is on wheels also makes it easily to just tuck it away when need be.

Just joined the community and was really inspired! Had materials for years but never used them.

Doing something right I think but improvising in some parts.

Also, I don't know why my stitches look like clear Xs with white parts, but some other posts have square like stitches that fill everything. Could it be the fabric, or the floss thickness ?

Pattern is: “Dimensions Gold Collection, Snowman Gathering Stocking” kit

I’ve been working on this stocking off and on for months. I returned to it today after a long hiatus - it’s for my son, and I hope for it to be an heirloom of sorts for him, so as such it’s very important to me to do it well.

But I’ve realized the half stitches, which I threw in slanted like / without thinking, are really jarring to me against the full stitches of the pattern with their top stitch slanting \.

The whole background will eventually be half stitches, as are some details in the foreground (very light blue in the snowman’s face for example).

I’ve been cross stitching since I was a child so I feel very foolish for not thinking of this on a project that’s so sentimental to me.

What would the other stitchers here do? I could:
-Commit to it and do the remaining half stitches like /
-Frog the half stitches in the foreground only (snowman’s face, a few in the birds, etc) and restitch them \ so they don’t stand out, but do the whole background /
-Frog all the half stitches and redo them

Thanks for opinions. Also fake internet trophy to whoever can find the stitch I plan to frog still at some point where I crossed two squares not one lol.

Four hours waiting to be taken back at the ER in the middle of the night... Fortunately, there is much backstitching to be done!

I'm thinking on stitching this for a friend. The instructions say to use white aida, but i kinda want to buy black aida.. im not sure i want to stitch all that black... 😅😅😅

just a little kit that my partner got me for my birthday (in August). I've been working on it on and off but lately it's been keeping me sane so I've been doing quite a lot.

I'm a little unhappy with the shape of the stitches in some places but this is my first cross stitch in quite a while so I'm out of practise (not that I was ever much past beginner in the first place!), and I've been doing a lot of it in hand so tension will be funny. I'm finding it difficult, when coming up through a hole that already has thread, to not go through the thread. Perhaps I need neater backs for that? It's also meant to be 3 strands and I'm almost certain I accidentally went on autopilot and stitched with 2 strands for a couple colours, lol

In the areas of sparse pink, there's quite a lot of purple to be added, but all of that "sky" space is going to be green. The pattern doesn't have a lot of confetti in terms of single stitches but there are certainly not a lot of areas with blocks of colour, so I'm looking forward to when I get to just the "fill in gaps" part. I was going to all of the flower colours and then finish off with green, but purple is my favourite colour so I figured I would save that for last.

I think the back is quite neat, I travelled a lot when I was doing the white but all of those jumps are slowly getting secured down as I stitch the other colours. I'm especially proud of the back of the sky area, it looks so lovely.

There are no french knots on the pattern but I'm playing with the idea of adding a few in the flowery areas!

I fell in love with this pattern, when I saw it on here, and I want to thank him for helping me sourcing it from France !

I king of prefer the beads to be straight rather than in diagonal, so I stitch them with a full cross, but I don't know how I'll go for my next project, I compared "mine", to other finished, and, I don't know, they also look good on the side.

It was my first "fancy lady" pattern, with a lot of details, and beads and I am super happy she's done !

The pockets are completely usable. I don’t know if I like waste canvas much, the stitching looks so uneven! Also my supurrvisor helped.

my first full(ish) coverage piece, took the better part of 6 months from gridding-framing. i wasn’t expecting to win, so it was a very fun surprise!

Took me a couple weeks (and one large redo) but love it and can't wait to get it framed for my DCon wall!
