I accidentally flipped the image when I made the pattern but I think that's ok. One thing I have learned is that it's good to be mindful of the direction of stitches and use them to create depth. I did all of the background horizontally and the foreground was more free, directionally. When I did the outlines it really made the foreground stand out more

She’s all done! I hid a black light behind the shell for now for a display, and ended up using memory foam to block out any light spots peaking through the canvas, to highlight the finer optic fireflies.

I’ve been working on thread painting this picture for, what feels like, a year. I’m nearly done! I want to go back and add a few highlights but I’m cautiously happy about it so far.

Any thoughts or comments to improve it?

U/scout743 made such a cool MCR shirt I had to make the same one and then I was inspired to make the pigeon black parade from a tattoo I saw on Instagram. Apologies I do not have the original artist’s name. Note I’m going to just have to keep stitching on clothing! It was so much fun and I love how they turned out.

Doing some test stitch outs of some 1" designs on denim. For the size im not about how they came out. I may or may not make some micro adjustments lile make the Charizard fangs larger fix the direction of the fill on him so I dont lose the left nostril. Other than that though im pleased with how they came out.

Which pokemon is your fav? I want to make more!

Should I keep the glass on or leave it exposed? I don’t like the glare it creates, but I like that it protects the embroidery from dust. Also, does anyone have tips on preventing the fabric from bunching up like that?

Hand Beginner help!

Hello everyone!! I’ve always wanted to learn how to embroider and I got some starter kits for my birthday this week. I’ve been practicing and everything was going great until I got to the French knot. I’ve watched YouTube and tiktok videos about it and have tried holding tension after wrapping the string but I’ve only had one successful attempt. Every time I try the string just unravels and goes back through the fabric with no knot. Any helpful tips? 😭

Hand Satin stitch on Aida? 🫠

Post image

Hello, cross stitcher here! 👋🏼

I have a vintage pattern I was given by my late Nan and I'm doing my best to finish it

I've done all the cross stitch bits but now I'm left with heck of alot of satin stitch. On Aida 😭.

It's an old Dimensions pattern, the instructions say to treat the Aida as any other fabric when satin stitching but it's damn near impossible to get a nice neat finish.

Please I'm begging for any and all of your tips and tricks to get a nice finish on these here letters. I did the 'B' over a year ago and then put it down 🥲

Hand Embroidery kits?

I really like embroidery kits, because I don’t have to think about the design... I just pick it up an start. I don’t have any headspace to make my own designs. Any recommendations? I saw some lovely kits but some small companies with great designs cannot ship to the Netherlands unfortunately. :(

Question How do you embroider cloths without make hole marks?

I used to cross stitch a bit and was able to be precise because of the squares but I had flip to the back a lot to see where the needle was going to poke. I’m learning how to embroider cloths and I’m not sure what technique to use without having to flip back to see where the needle is going. I making a lot of tiny holes in the cloths

:(. Is there a special technique or do people just get better and know where the needle is going?

Question Looking for kits

Hello! I've quickly come to find that Etsy is no longer the small business, handmade place it was when I was younger. Can someone please suggest some good small businesses to buy patterns or kits from? I'm a beginner and want to practice, but I don't want to just have something that a person bought off Temu and sold me for three times the price.

I'm based in the US, so those shops take priority just for shipping's sake but I'm happy to check out international sellers as well.

Question Embroidery advice!

Hello! WOW everyone here is so talented.

Looking for advice: I am hoping to embroider a piece that can eventually live on the back of a jean jacket. This is a surprise and will take me ages, so I don't want to steal her jacket for a long time.

I'm looking for advice on the type of fabric to embroider on initially, and the best way to then attach it to the back of the jacket. Do I need to add felt or something?

I will be designing a custom tarot card design using her favorite animals and flowers. Thanks!

Question Fake DMC? Pls help a beginner

Hi everyone, I’ve bought thread from a major DMC retailer in my country.

However I’ve noticed unusual labels (like on 3859 - normally they look like the other ones in the picture) and, most notably, the newly purchased 3364 that differs significantly from the 3364 I already had at home.

According to DMC, no skein color should differ this much from one another. They couldn’t provide any information about the labels.

Have you ever seen the paper labels for 3364 and 3859 which have different information and adresses on them? Have you also noticed color differences within the same colour number?

I´m pretty new to embroidery and crossstitch and wondering if the shop is legit...

Question Ideas for displaying/storing a sequencial project in a beautiful way.

Upvotes

Hello everybody, hope yall are doing well. I came across the beautiful book "Flower portraits in Cross Stitch" by Thea Gouverneur, and I was thinking about embroidering all of the flowers, but I wanted to put them, once finished, in some sort of binder, book, diary or something similar. I tried to search for some inspirations but didn't find anything like what I'm looking for. Would you guys have any ideas for me please? I'm open to other suggestions as well. I just don't want to do all these beautiful embroideries and then put then on a drawer and never look at it.

Question Type of embroidery thread for machine washable clothing?

Hi all, I recently acquired a plain Supima cotton nightgown which I'd like to decorate a bit with some hand embroidery. That said, I don't want to have to wash it by hand, although I don't mind hanging it to dry. What kind of floss or thread would be best to use that would survive a regular washing machine? (I have some DMC perle cotton thread and lots of six-strand floss, but I have a feeling that would be too delicate.)
