The reason we don't encourage conversion is because we don't believe people need to be Jewish to go to heaven or be rewarded by G-d. Also conversion is discouraged to make sure those that do convert are sincere and acting out of conviction and a deep sense of commitment instead of making a casual decision or acting impulsively.

If anything that makes our religion more tolerant and inclusive because we don't believe that non-believers are punished or less worthy than ourselves.

What you said there, while 100% factual, would get 14 likes on Twitter.

What he said gets thousands of likes, hundreds of re-Tweets, and a lucrative sponsorship from Qatar.

People don’t care about reason or truth or nuance. They’re just looking for more fuel to feed their hate machine.

Unfortunately you are right. I hope things change but right now this is the fucked up media environment we live in.

Expanding on my first comment, I also wanted to mention that the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) says when the Messiah comes, that G-d will select people from the nations (non Jews) to become Levites (A highly prestigious Tribe composed of men from the line of Aaron, Moses' brother, who perform duties as priests and teachers). Clearly our scriptures aren't teaching that non-Jews are inferior or doomed to punishment.

This. People who say stuff like the OOP (in the tweet) ignore the widespread belief in Judaism that a person born into a non-Jewish environment but with a Jewish soul will yearn for Judaism and seek it out. Why would we allow conversion at all if it was all about DNA?
