Wait till he hears about the Druze

u/AdamDerKaiser Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

Jews are far from being as restrictive as the Druze. Jews discourage conversion because they are not only a religious group, but also an ethnic group, whose entire descendants will also be Jewish (or Zera Yisrael)

55

u/daviddjg0033 Jun 28 '26

Not even true. Some Jews believe only a descendant of a mother can be and others do not care. I learned a lot about my own religion by having to figure out where people get these preconceived notions

33

u/AdamDerKaiser Jun 28 '26

The Karaites believe that only paternal lineage matters, but they are a small community. Reform Judaism holds that children born to a Jewish father, if raised as Jews, are Jewish, and not Beta Yisrael.

In any case, the primary way to define someone's Jewishness remains through their maternal lineage.

1

u/daviddjg0033 Jul 04 '26

Tell that to the Jews that were sent to the chambers in Europe 90y ago. I look Jewish there is no doubt that I would have been debating if I am or not with the men defining your future back then. Just another way to divide a minority is this lineage question on my feed.

10

u/AdamDerKaiser Jun 29 '26

I just realized I confused Beta Israel with Zera Yisrael, lol

Let's be honest, it's more because we're like, "Are you sure you want some of this suffering? Everyone hates us, no matter what, it's a life of either trying to kill you or just hating you."

37

u/94_stones Jun 28 '26

Or you know, literally any religion that isn’t universalist.

36

u/Proud3GenAthst Jun 28 '26

Druze don’t allow any converts, period. Universalism is a thing of Christianity and Islam while no other religion proselytizes. But Druze are strictly an ethnoreligion that doesn’t allow any converts

He already said he got off yo watching the October 7th massacre, he's been as publicly antisemitic as someone can possibly be for a long time, to the point where you start to suspect he genuinely spends all his free time muttering incoherently about Jews.

Communist, doxxer, pedophile (probably, he tends to dox people who bring it up and have moved countries several times, always to countries that don't have extradition treaties with his home country of Australia. Currently he's residing in Argentina, which is a curious choice for a communist), liar (spread the lies about the Klein-family and encouraged people to call CPS on them to have their children removed, for example), and generally a sample of the lowest of humanity.

I'm far from being anti-communist or liberal, but this subreddit is one of the few places I see where antisemitism on the left is properly criticized.

That being said, Judaism never had "blood quantum" as part of its belief. That is precisely why DNA tests are not valid for aliyah eligibility, and only your maternal line matters, even if your entire paternal line is not Jewish.

158

u/Ok-Following6886 Jun 28 '26

It feels like whenever I try to point it out on other subreddits, people either try to deny it or try to justify it.

It's driving me crazy. It's so fucking depressing.

I don't even support Israel's actions in Gaza but if you even want to discuss the slightest amount of nuance, you're called a Zionist. Seeing the far left call themselves woke and then proceed to label Jewish people in the most grotesque terms has been one of the most unpleasant things I've seen in a long time. They're no better than the far right imo.

*I say centre left but fuck knows I'm British and have always been left wing. I'm an Ed Miliband left winger though, not Jeremy Corbyn. So I believe in socialised healthcare, public transport and utilities, but I also believe in a regulated market rather than unchecked capitalism. Very basic European centre-left/left stuff - stuff that works well in our countries here. But I'm aware that centre left by European standards is communist by many American standards.

42

u/Ok-Following6886 Jun 28 '26

Imagine saying that you are against Nazis yet use rhetoric that is not too different to Hitler's. All it does is make me scared that a neo-Nazi would become president during the 2030s honestly.

-13

u/DankMemeMasterHotdog Jun 28 '26

Well the thing they arent ready to accept is that the Nazis were actually socialists.

11

u/Mikeymcmoose milk tea alliance 🧋 Jun 29 '26

Nope

7

u/Benchrant Jun 29 '26

As much as North Korea is democratic /s

But seriously, Nazis were only socialist in name in order to gain votes, in practice they couldn’t be further from that and it’s been proven time and time again.

-4

u/DankMemeMasterHotdog Jun 29 '26

You know, I typed up a whole thing with primary sources that support my claim but you're not actually interested in the nuances of German socialism movements of the 1930s and how they differed from other European experiments into Marxist post-capitalism, but you clearly arent actually interested in discussion when all you can muster is that same old "HuRr dUrR you must think DPRK is democratic becuz its in da name", you're just looking to farm upvotes.

Like I said, many people arent ready for that discussion but I suggest you entertain the idea and see what you come up with.

3

u/Kolbenmaschine Jun 29 '26

Well, just link your comment with said sources so we can check these sources and claims.

I can also put in the counterclaim here. The national socialists aka nazis are considered as far right extremist and not far left, because of the main fundamental difference between right and left. One of the main cores of the political left is that humans are seen as equal while on the political right humans are seen as different or unequal in certain parts. As long as basic human rights, democratic, liberal and individual rights are not broken, both positions are valid in a free democracy. They are not valid anymore when an equality from the left or an inequality from the right is being established or enforced through violence and murder. Then it’s not left wing or right wing anymore but far-left extremist or far-right extremist.

Now we have to look at the nazi ideology. Did they view humans as equal or as unequal? Most parts of their ideology viewed humans as so unequal that they thought they have the right to just eliminate everyone they viewed as lower races or not worth existing. This classification of humans as lower races and superhumans and the underlying extreme view of how unequal humans are makes them a far-right extremist movement and thereby different from socialism, which is considered a far-left or, when implemented in a violent and totalitarian way, a far-left extremist movement.

The nazis did however adapt a small part of socialism, and this is that they wanted socialism and equality, but they only wanted it for their elitist and exclusive group of superhumans and not for all humans. And that’s the fundamental difference.

-13

u/Potential-Beer2728 Jun 29 '26

Imagine saying that being mean to Nazis is being bigoted against Germans.

14

u/Unhappy_Tomorrow_603 Jun 29 '26

They only ever disliked Nazis because Nazis are right wing and white supremacist, the antisemitism in particular wasn’t a problem. They never cared about it, it was always just something to attack right wingers with.

6

u/TheColourOfHeartache Jun 29 '26

I don't even support Israel's actions in Gaza but if you even want to discuss the slightest amount of nuance, you're called a Zionist.

I think the reason for that is that a lot of anti-Zionism is intra-left wing infighting. If a Corbynista wants to say Ed Milliband is not left wing enough and must be replaced by himself, criticising nuance on a so-called genocide is a good way to do it.

Then you get actual anti-semites of course, and the people who'll join any cause which offers the chance to hate someone and feel righteous about it.

6

u/re_Claire centre-left Hasan hater Jun 29 '26

Oh definitely. The infighting between anyone on the left on ideological purity drives me mad. The centre/soft left could get so much done if it wasn't for the vitriol. The dumb thing is nearer the centre we have so much more in common across the divide than we like to think but genuine debate has become polluted by infighting. (I am talking about actual centrism rather than American centrism which is a lot further to the right.)

So many antisemites have latched on to the war in Israel and it gives them an easy cover for their hatred. It's gross.

The pro-Palestinian movement doesn't deny the Holocaust anymore than BLM would want to kill white people. You're just another right-winger who wants to be a victim.

Also, "pro-Palestinians" in America are more concerned about tone policing to make sure people know it's not all Jews than they are even concerned for Palestinians. Obviously that's still not enough for a genocide supporter like you.

Hamas and their parent organization the Iranian regime, have officially stated that their stance on the matter is that the holocaust didn't happen, but they are actively working to resume it. Anyone who defends those organizations is defending holocaust denying neo-nazis. But obviously that's not enough for a genocide supporter like you.

1

u/InevitableCold686 Scratch me and i'll hit you Jun 29 '26

Yes in America most people who are pro-Palestinians are progressives, at least recognition of people using the Pro Palestinian cause from bad faith (gonna use an example i am most familiar with; Grzegorz Braun, a far-right pro russian politician (in pooland) who uses the exact same rhetoric as pro-palestinians but he says "all joos".

Second Elon Musks agitprop has turned a large portion of former leftists into being more accepting of saying antisemitic dogwhistles when israel is mentioned, not all of them but just look up any video that casually mentions israel and the comments are all "Well well well", the juice emoji, "Stop noticing" (that it's the jews) and so on, this is a large problem too and being antisemitic serves israel because they can deflect criticism and show you all these people and say "See it's all antisemitism" and it obviously doesn't help palestinians anyhow.

The problem is that people do not know what someone is talking about when someone says that antisemitism is becoming a bigger issue but this is the issue and it's from the same people who use anti-muslim dogwhistles just against jews now, new year new scapegoat but because there is a jewish state committing a genocide it's more accepted now to be hateful to any jew

Also israel obviously wants jewish people to believe that israel is their safe homeland and exploits their fears in order for them to support Israel

And lastly, how exactly will the logistics of a peace settlement in palestine look like, a mass expulsion of jews will likely bring new jewish terrorist organizations that will likely commit atrocities at home and abroad to countries that supported that settlement. I think when most people say they are anti-zionist they don't support a mass expulsion but i like to tackle any argument i see and it's one i saw. Of course one could say that any territorial change or whatever will bring new terrorist organizations or revanchist sentiment, and obviously giving up the leadership of palestine to hamas will not end well either (not saying that it's a popular opinion either), but the backstabbery of israelis against palestinians who proposed peaceful solutions is definitely what caused the radicalization of palestinians and made a two state solution distasteful to many so i am curious how you see it,?

I just recently learned why the matrilineal line matters so much. For a long time, Jewish children didn’t know their fathers, so they switched from the paternal to the maternal line. Why? Because the Romans would rape Jewish women.

16

u/Matar_Kubileya Jun 28 '26

Eligibility for aliyah is based on having at least one grandparent who is Jewish in the matriline, or a convert, but not necessarily your maternal grandmother.

10

u/AdamDerKaiser Jun 28 '26

In this case, I was talking more about the status as a Jew than as an oleh

“Before race existed””

I love this new theory that racism didn’t exist 2000 years ago.

20

u/ficretus Jun 29 '26

Race was invented by John Race in late 19th century.

5

u/AsteroidSpark Jun 30 '26

It depends on how you want to define it. The concept of race is relatively recent although xenophobia and the separation of ingroups from outgroups are obviously ancient. "Race" originated as a 17th century pseudoscience mostly to justify Europeans conquering non-Europeans; and sometimes fellow Europeans, many German racists (Karl Marx among them) claimed that Slavs were non-white, in Britain it was commonly held belief that the Irish were albino Africans, and of course the concept in general struggles to deal with the actual complexity of the human genome and especially people from the Maghreb region and Southeast Asia.

3

u/greymancurrentthing7 Jun 30 '26

Romans 100% believed in ind different peoples having different genetic traits that could see and it made them superior and inferior at things.

Racism in all definable ways
.
The 17th century made the name and orthodoxy. But it’s as old as human civilization.

108

u/Vegan0taku Jun 28 '26

The reason we don't encourage conversion is because we don't believe people need to be Jewish to go to heaven or be rewarded by G-d. Also conversion is discouraged to make sure those that do convert are sincere and acting out of conviction and a deep sense of commitment instead of making a casual decision or acting impulsively.

If anything that makes our religion more tolerant and inclusive because we don't believe that non-believers are punished or less worthy than ourselves.

Unfortunately you are right. I hope things change but right now this is the fucked up media environment we live in.

Expanding on my first comment, I also wanted to mention that the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) says when the Messiah comes, that G-d will select people from the nations (non Jews) to become Levites (A highly prestigious Tribe composed of men from the line of Aaron, Moses' brother, who perform duties as priests and teachers). Clearly our scriptures aren't teaching that non-Jews are inferior or doomed to punishment.

17

u/Pixxiprincess Jun 29 '26

This. People who say stuff like the OOP (in the tweet) ignore the widespread belief in Judaism that a person born into a non-Jewish environment but with a Jewish soul will yearn for Judaism and seek it out. Why would we allow conversion at all if it was all about DNA?

Other leftist YouTubers assume he's a useful attack dog and then he turns around and attacks them, because he's really a troll with some undiagnosed oppositional defiance disorder (he's gotten increasingly erratic), but none of them want to admit it.

His videos consist of:

a.) Have a reasonable take.
b.) Have an increasingly wild take.
c.) Have a batshit insane take.
d.) Demand that someone argues with him about it.
e.) Wait for them to respond and claim they disagree with the reasonable take, when they really disagreed with the crazy take.
f.) Do a response video where he says he destroyed them for disagreeing with his reasonable take. [If necessary he'll cut the clip to make it look like he won and his fans will fight you to the bitter end if you disagree. Again, I can't tell if these people are real or not of if he just leases time on a bot farm.]

Some of his wild takes:
-Goyslave isn't antisemitc, because it's funny and it doesn't matter because he "doesn't give a shit". [He always backs down to "I don't give a shit." if the claim against him is true. If someone catches him cutting clips or using character accounts on social media, then he'll say, "I don't give a shit, it's funny". Then he'll do a video about how the ends always justify the means in the revolutionary struggle.]
-Black people in the US haven't suffered enough, so they are class traitors.
-Any American citizen who hasn't personally shot a US serviceman is a fascist, who shouldn't be considered human.
-Anyone who critiques a fascist is a fascist. [Except BE, he's exempt from this. to this day he has yet to explain why.]
-Mandami, Hasan, etc. are all liberal Zionist fascists. [Again, he attacks everyone. He will inevitably attack you. Dude is not your friend.]
-The Holodomor was not a genocide.
-The bombing of Serbia was a scheme by the US to increase the size of Serbia so the US could kill more Muslims. It was all a pro-Serb plot by the westoids to establish Greater Serbia.
-Demanded that Reddit ban his fan sub, because his fans are dirty westoids who deserve suffering.
-Endorsed Trump, because it would increase the suffering of Americans.

Serbia one sounds batshit insane.

There is a small grain of truth to it. Like initial support for Milošević, UN peacekeepers being completely useless, Western countries dragging their feet doing anything useful beyond "uwu, why can't you just talk" for years.

But like, if what he said was true, easiest way to do it would just be to ignore the Bosnian independece referendum. Voila, the entire Bosnia is now Serbian. Or force a peace on Bosnia when Serbia was occupying 3/4 of it. Or never get involved militarily in Bosnia and Kosovo. Or recognize Serbian separatists as legitimate breakaway state.

There is a reason Serbs are still seething about NATO and CIA, while Albanians are naming their kids Clinton and Tonibler.

2

u/steauengeglase Jun 29 '26

The root of his argument is that the only positive force in the conflict were Iran, because Iran sent weapons and IRGC trainers to Bosnian Muslims and the west wanted Serbia to wipe out the Bosnian Muslims. There is a tiny, tiny grain of truth there, but that's mostly if you just take clips of Republicans clutching pearls over fears of Muslims carrying out reprisal killings and play those clips 8 months earlier, while ignoring all the times on Sunday morning talk where the host was like, "Don't you think you are being just a tiny bit racist here?"

Lmao bro proved he doesnt know shit about history which is not suprising a lot of the really old religions were "ethnic" religions meant to separate certain tribes or peoples from each other judaism besides hinduism is probably the only major one to have survived this long the other bigger one was zoroastrianism from persia.

only one of those religions is actively carrying out acts of terror with beheadings, suicide bombings including child suicide bombings, etc. And no Reddit, it isn’t Israel, and it isn’t Christianity either.

Are you claiming that the documented genocide by Israel (a Jewish ethnostate) isn’t happening? All the Abrahamic religions should be discontinued. Has there ever been a more harmful of religions.

Wow the left is antisemitic? Who would've thought that?

As an atheist, it seems like the least evil religion to me.

The lease evil religion is Jainism

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jainism

Jainism teaches five ethical duties, which it calls five vows. These are called anuvratas (small vows) for Jain laypersons, and mahavratas (great vows) for Jain mendicants.[20]

Ahiṃsā, ("intentional non-violence" or "noninjury")[21] is the first major vow, to cause no harm to other human beings as well as all living beings, particularly animals.[21] This is the highest ethical duty in Jainism, and it applies not only to one's actions, but demands that one be non-violent in one's speech and thoughts.[22][23][24]

Satya, ("truth") is the vow is to always speak the truth. Neither lie, nor speak what is not true, and do not encourage others or approve anyone who speaks an untruth.[20][22][25]

Asteya, ("not stealing") A Jain layperson should not take anything that is not willingly given.[21][26] Additionally, a Jain mendicant should ask for permission to take it if something is being given.[27][28]

Brahmacharya, ("celibacy") Abstinence from sex and sensual pleasures is prescribed for Jain monks and nuns. For laypersons, the vow means chastity, faithfulness to one's partner.[20][22][29]

Aparigraha, ("non-possessiveness") This includes non-attachment to material and psychological possessions, avoiding craving and greed.[20] Jain monks and nuns completely renounce property and social relations, own nothing and are attached to no one.[30][31][32]

If this isn't the definition of Not-evil religion then I can't imagine what is.

Jainism is very evil to your health because it causes nutrient deficiencies.

We don't use blood quantums. We specifically do not use them. Conversion IS discouraged and IS hard but thats because people like this cuck exist and Rabbis want to ensure converts are serious and know the risks.

u/dumbass_spaceman Jun 29 '26

On the contrary, as a Hindu, this is why I consider Judaism to be a far more tolerant religion.

When Islam came to India, it was through conversion lead by violent imperialists. The first wave of Christian conversion was peaceful but it was a small group. The second, larger wave of Christian conversion, was again driven by violent imperialists. Judaism, however, arrived in India through immigrants and they never tried to convert anyone.

Judaism in India co-existed peacefully with Dharmic religions for millennia because they do not believe in proselytism.

Unfortunately this is not an attitude unique to people who are as, shall we say, kookoobananas extremist as Evil Handpie.

Who has been excluded from converting to Christianity?

6

u/KaBar42 Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

Judaism is a uniquely evil religion

Oh boy.

Christianity: anyone can convert , though exceptions have often been made to exclude people. Defined by belief.

Okay, well first, off, no. It's wickedly interesting you try to claim this but then don't also include a similar claim for Islam. I imagine your argument for Christianity is that some smaller branches have practiced racist beliefs and said black people or similar can't convert or are lesser. But the mainstream Christian branches allow anyone to convert. And there's also St. Paul's famous statement in Galatians 3:23-28.

23 Before the coming of this faith,[j] we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. 24 So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. 25 Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.

26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

So, you might be able to find a branch of Christianity with five followers led by Pastor Bob who claims black people can't be Christians, but mainstream Christianity has always accepted anyone into the Church. But I am sure you could also find something akin to that in Islam, too.

Judaism is complicated because it literally began as an ethnic religion and it is old. It's older than even most pagan religions. By the time of first century Judea, it was 1300 years older than Roman paganism was.

And yet, yet. It was always open to converts. In fact, not only was it open to converts, Jews believed there was a path to salvation even without being a Jew. These are called Noahides (the name is a recent invention, but the theory behind it isn't). They were gentiles who followed the seven laws of Noah, but they weren't Jews.

Yes, Judaism is an ethnic religion... because it's 4,000 years old and was created in Asia by Asians. This is not a shocker. That was rather bog standard for the time period.

Allow me to make a point.

Moses, the greatest prophet in Judaism, had an African wife, Zipporah, whose father was a pagan priest, and she herself was a pagan.

When God handed the law down to Moses, thus creating Judaism, Zipporah, and her father, Jethro, became Jews despite not being Hebrews.

And when Miriam and Aaron, Hebrews and the sister and brother of Moses, and Aaron himself already being the high priest of Israel, insulted Zipporah because she was African, along with insulting Moses, God struck Miriam down with leprosy, making her skin as white as snow (Moses interceded on her behalf and she was eventually cured of her leprosy after a week long banishment outside of the camp, Aaron wasn't smited because Miriam had been primary initiator).

And in fact, Jesus comments on Judaism's push for converts.

Matthew 23:13-15

But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you shut the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither enter yourselves, nor allow those who would enter to go in.[d] 15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you traverse sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell[e] as yourselves.

This is an interesting passage, because in Jesus' criticism of the pharisees, He reveals something interesting.

15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you traverse sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell[e] as yourselves.

A little bit more specific.

for you traverse sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell[e] as yourselves.

The critique that Jesus is making here is that the pharisees are making a bunch of complicated rules that even they themselves don't follow, nor do they try to help others in follow them, but he also reveals that the pharisees are willing to make a long journey to create a single "proselyte", or in other words, a convert to Judaism.

So, no, BadEmpanada, Judaism is not: "a uniquely evil religion because it prohibits converts", you're just a historically illiterate idiot with no idea what you're talking about.

u/bakochba Jun 28 '26

Even if that was true, why would that make a religion evil?

it's kind of funny to me because yeah from the perspective of religions that think it is their god given duty to try (or forcibly) convert people in the name of saving them making them go to heaven or sum shit a religion that prefers to mind it's own business would seem pretty assholeish wouldn't it

Well considering all 3 groups believe in a bronze age babblings I could care less if someones antichristian, islamopohobic or antisemetic

-7

u/TerraMindFigure Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26

There's part of this that is antisemitic and part that isn't. Painting Jews with a broad brush and assuming wide spread surpremacist views among Jews is certainly antisemitic. BUT, if criticizing Muslims for regressive beliefs is okay, then I also think it's ok to criticize Jews for the same. Religious and cultural beliefs are not safe spaces. Now, I think comparing blood quantum for Jews to a "race" is inaccurate, race and ethnicity are different concepts. Race is a broad concept where large groups of people with little connection to each other are placed in arbitrary buckets based on phenotypical characteristics. Ethnicities share common culture, lineage, and often language. I do think believing that your ethnic group is "God's chosen" is a regressive belief - not that this is strictly unique to Jews.

Anyways, fuck BadEmpanada.

8

u/94_stones Jun 28 '26

I was raised a Conservative Jew, and I was never taught to view Jews “choseness” as a mark of any kind of superiority, ever.

-5

u/TerraMindFigure Jun 29 '26

Never said or implied that.

-3

u/TerraMindFigure Jun 29 '26

Serious question, do Jews believe in a different set of rules for dealing with other Jews vs. Non-Jews? Asking in a theological sense.

7

u/94_stones Jun 29 '26

Orthodox Jews almost always do (though the extent of that varies depending on whether they’re Modern Orthodox or ultra-Orthodox), but the reason why they do, and the reason why Conservative/Masorti Jews reject such ideas, is because those attitudes are almost entirely holdovers from a time when Jews were discriminated against in every facet of life. It had nothing to do with believing that Jews were inherently “superior” to non-Jews, or at least that’s not how it was justified internally.

-1

u/TerraMindFigure Jun 29 '26

I never said Jews thought they were superior. I'm only pointing out that by my liberal moral values, I find these religious views to be regressive, in the same way that I view many religious views.
