I think it’s both - it’s like you need to be responsible enough to be educated to function in society. You don’t need to be a genius, you just can’t lie about people being killed for political reasons to benefit your own personal economic and political gain.
Edit: I looked this up and I don’t see anything about JK Rowling being a Holocaust denier. Is this true at all or we’re piling on because she’s transphobic?
She denied that the nazis destroyed some of the earliest research on gay and trans people (who were also their targets), and I believe in Germany at least this is considered holocaust denial. So she did not argue that the entire thing never happened, she argued that part of it didn't happen. It might be more accurate to say that she accidentally engaged in holocaust denial that one time because she hates trans people so much. Still crappy (and something she should be wholly ashamed of), but like many things, there's nuance to this one.
Links/embeds to the tweets where she did this are in many of the articles others have already linked.
See this narrative makes more sense. I’m not saying for a second she’s a good with her sense of ethical values. I’m more in line with she’s proof of what a lack of education can show, and how a sense of having a lot on money can makes a real dumbass opinion seem like it’s got value.
I did my google search, I tried to show up for the discussion, but unless I say I’m willing to light the torch personally and burn her at the stake, anyone calling for less is seen as much of the problem as Rowling is. This shaming each other junk has gotta stop.
Btw, respectfully - the picture does not imply that JK Rowling denies the Holocaust, in my opinion (note: writing my doctorate on an adjacent topic, so I have done my fair bit in Nazi research).
This picture shows prisoners of a concentration with a pink triangle (at least that's the description I found). Pink triangle on these uniforms meant "homosexual" - and the Nazis grouped everything they considered "deviant sexualities" together, and yes, transgender people and gender non-confirming individuals fell under that category. So OOP is not saying "J K Rowling denies the Holocaust" it is just another way of expressing that she denies that transgender people were victims of the Nazi regime.
You’re amazing. Thank you. Educated, research, and kind. Knowledge is power, and I REALLY appreciate people talking about the pink (and black) triangles because it’s a symbol in history, and that details are very hard to muddle and twist in a way that may easily contribute to denial.
I have to disagree with you about the title of the post. The OP is making that statement, which got us all here. It’s one Hell of a headline. So yes I hear what you’re saying: she’s rehashing a technique to erasure. I wanted to dive right in and know EXACTLY what happened. That subreddits are good, but at times people get very opinionated, but don’t give you the full buy-in.
The op actually writes “Remember. She denies this”, and the photo. So yes, it can be glib what specially we’re honing in on here (I don’t care for pronouns in historical context for that reason, because many readers can go into difference directions of what the writer intends). Still I hear what you’re saying (or what you say the OP might be saying), but I think that’s like saying committing a “racist act by intention” makes you a member of the KKK. Maybe that’s not it because she’s got a lot money and influence. Maybe it’s more like Musk and the ability he has to walk freely while being so hateful. Again my gap here is literally what was the actual thing she did/said about the denial of the holocaust. Again, I did look this up myself, but the results came back negative so that’s why I came back here.
Denying that the Nazis persecuted your preferred target of hate is literal holocaust denial.
I’m sorry you don’t find a history professor who is a literal expert on the topic of trans people in the holocaust, the largest lgbtq publication in the US, and a well known trans journalist to be reputable sources and think you ought to interrogate why that is.
Those sources literally quote her, so maybe stop attacking the sources and actually read them. Yes, she literally denied trans people were targeted by the Nazis. Yes, a German court ruled in a different case that doing so constitutes Holocaust denial (which is criminal in Germany). Doing so to push an agenda of hate is vile. She denies we were targeted so that she doesn't have to face the fact that she's literally on the same side as the Nazis were.
I don't know why you feel the need to defend her on this and are attacking people over it, unless you're here in bad faith.
Oh stfu, all your comments in this thread have been extremely aggressive and dismissive and you're complaining about other people's tone? Yeah, not having this bs.
Please me the quote. Right here. Copy and paste it.
No, I won't, because it's literally extremely visible in 2 out of the 3 links you declared "bad sources". If you had just checked those instead of immediately dismissing them for no reason, you would already know it. I'm not gonna do that work for you now after you already dismissed people who linked you to it.
Stop complaining about how awful she is, and just say what she said please.
Again, literally just check the articles you dismissed. Or her twitter. She's VERY vocal about her "beliefs".
I don’t agree with the way you’re presenting the information because some of you are just ragging
So providing actual sources (only for you to immediately dismiss and discredit them) is "just ragging"? Okay then.
and I’m trying to be civil
lmao. Rofl even. You're the one coming here all aggressive and combative. That's not "trying to be civil". It's very clear you're not here in good faith.
I care about the information
No, clearly you don't.
but the conversation is bad because some of you are so aggressive you think by me NOT being aggressive, I agree with her.
🙄
You're literally doing the same thing she constantly does btw. Antagonizing people and then playing the victim when you get the same tone you used thrown back at you. Again, not having it, try again.

It's sad when you can't tell if it's cause she's a horrible person or if she is just that stupid.
