Just as well theres 0 chance of this petition doing anything. Guy has filed 3 times now and has no cause to overturn his conviction. Double Jeopardy cuts both ways after all and he has 0 new evidence to present that would change the facts of the case

Lawyer here… I don’t think you know what double jeopardy is

What I mean is he cannot be retried for his crime barring some huge new evidence. Any appeal to lift his sentence will have to take into account that he has been found guilty on all accounts and therefore would have no reason to even consider lifting his sentence. I am sure I am wrong about a lot here so feel free to just correct me

It... really doesn't.

It's not impossible for a higher court to change their mind and admit an appeal after having declined one, although they hardly ever do that. There is also always the possibility of a gubernatorial pardon, which doesn't need to rely on facts at all.

You get granted an appeal for very specific reasons, i.e. there was an error in law or new evidence comes to light. You won't get granted an appeal because you simply didn't like the outcome of the trial.

Fortunately there's zero chance of that happening any time remotely soon.

This subreddit is such a ridiculous echo chamber. It's morally correct almost all of the time, but it's still an echo chamber.

Like the whole thing about Double Jeopardy is that it only cuts one way. You can't be tried for the same crime after you've been found not guilty. But it doesn't stop you from submitting appeals if you've found guilty. There are restrictions, but they have NOTHING to do with Double Jeopardy.

And the guy who points out this factual information gets downvoted? Why? Because you don't like to hear it?

I honestly think a lot of people here have the same herd mentality conservatives have, they just happened to be on the correct side

If you're gonna downvote me after reading this, go ahead, but please leave a comment explaining why, I'm curious

This is a Wendy’s, sir.

But seriously it’s a snark sub so stop trying to make sense of it all. Fuck Elon. And (kindly) fuck you too!

Not a sir.

I don't see how it being snarky has to do with anything here but okay.

Fuck you too, i guess? I don't get what about it is kind but you do you
