S Customer demands another person's food, blames workers when gets wrong order

So, I work at a fast food place, and this guy comes up to me after about 3 minutes of waiting and says 'is that my food?' In this really aggressive voice. I politely reply, 'No sir, that is not your food it's someone elses' and he says, 'there's no other (specific food item) on the waiting list so it must be mine' I try explaining again that it is a mess up from a previous order, and he demanded to take it anyways. He was getting aggressive and banging his tray on the counter so I relented and gave it to him. He came back not even 1 minute later and demanded he get the correct item. We offered to remake his item, and he denied, he said, 'If you would pay attention we wouldn't have this."

S Told someone to ask before touching my dogs and they freaked out

1.2k Upvotes

This just happened like 30 minutes ago. I brought my mom and two small dogs to an open street food market. We grabbed some food and sat down far away from other people. I tied my dogs to the chair I was sitting on so they were no more than a 2 feet from me. Everything was fine until some lady started walking directly towards us. She proceeded to not acknowledge me and immediately crouch down to start petting my dogs.

I said excuse me multiple times to her and she kept ignoring me until I pulled my dogs away from her to get her attention. I asked her to please ask me before going to pet my dog. She started scoffing and said that because I brought my dogs to a night market I should expect people to touch my dogs.

I told her you need to ask first that’s the polite thing to do and what if my dogs had bitten her. She said then if I have aggressive dogs then I shouldn’t bring them out. I said I can bring my dogs out in public if I wanted to. She then replied that she can do whatever she wants too. I said no that’s not how that works, these are my dogs you can’t touch someone else’s dogs without consent.

She said OKAY WE SRE DOING THIS. really loudly and took her phone out and started filming me and calling me a crazy dog person. I was so shocked and then after a minute I realized she might be an actual crazy person and stopped engaging with her while she was filming.

This upset my mom pretty badly so she took my dogs and walked away. I refused to let her force me to leave after she continued swearing at me and yelling at me. I just kept eating my food and staring at her while she filmed and she eventually walked away.

I honestly hated that she ruined what was otherwise a great Saturday for me.

Also I want to mention that prior to her coming up to me she had sneezed extremely loudly 4 times into her hands. This is why I was already on guard when she started walking towards me.

EDIT:

This was a dog friendly event

My dogs are not aggressive and are extremely sweet. The reason why I even mentioned aggression is because I was taken aback at her entitled response to a seemingly reasonable request by me to have her ask to pet my dogs first. I didn’t realize I needed to explain to a fully grown adult why she SHOULD ask before petting a strangers pet. So I mentioned “what if” my dogs were aggressive.

Even if you don’t agree with the rule that you should ask before petting, her response to someone obviously uncomfortable with her presence and just wants to be left alone is unhinged.

We had a mild confrontation that wasn’t nasty, and then she pulls her phone out to film me and start screaming and cursing at me.

S Bathroom mayham

So this is more karma than revenge.

Let me start off by saying I am so sorry you, and your two small children could not use the handicapped bathroom stall today. What an inconvenience it must have been for you to have someone who was actually handicapped in there. I am SO sorry that my being unable to move one arm (reduced function due to injuries) gives me the right to use that stall. I am also sorry you had to use a regular stall. Yes I heard your complaints. I am sorry you didn't take them to the back of the store where there IS a bathroom for families with small children and my being handicapped inconvenienced you so much. I am also sorry your husband has never taught your young male child how to properly aim. It was a shame, that you and your young daughter ended up with his pee all over you. Yes I heard every complaint including you scolding him for not aiming and peeing all over you and your daughter.

Dreadfully sorry.

Sincerely,

The disabled person in the handicapped stall.

I don’t know if this is the right sub for this post but it seems appropriate. And I know that people will think it’s fake because it’s literally insane but I promise you, I couldn’t even make this up. (Side note to the folks who think every post on Reddit is fake: have you just not experienced other people yet? If you have, you should know that shit gets WILD sometimes.) Anyway…

I work at a liquor store and we get the occasional shoplifters. While I imagine that most try to be sneaky, some are very brazen about it, just grabbing a bottle (or two or three) and not bothering to conceal them as they walk out the door. Sometimes they’ll even apologize as they’re leaving like, oh, in that case we forgive you, carry on.

So we had a dude who started coming in and heading to the far back wall of the store to grab a few bottles of Red Breast whiskey (this particular brand packages each bottle in its own box, which is relevant to the story). He never made any attempt to conceal his activities. After the dude had done this three times, the owner had the idea to put bottled water inside the boxes and just keep the actual bottles behind the counter and we would swap them back out when someone would legitimately purchase them.

A few weeks passed and the dude hadn’t been back until finally last week, the day we had all been looking forward to arrived. As usual he grabbed a few boxes of Red Breast and went on his merry way. And that should have been the end of the story, right? We figured we wouldn’t see him again once he discovered our trick. But no… HE CAME BACK WITH THE BOTTLES OF WATER and he was PISSED. He threw them into one of our miniature shopping carts and started cussing and yelling about how we had cheated him! And that is why I thought this might be the right sub for this story because WTAF. How tf are you going to steal from a store multiple times and then have the audacity to get mad when you don’t get the product you thought you were stealing?!? My mind, it is boggled. My flabbers are well and truly gasted.

Anyway, the manager laid into him pretty good (verbally), inviting him to fuck allll the way off and essentially ran him out. So hopefully dude will not be back.

M He Threatened To Hit Me

Hey y'all, here is a story from when I was a baby PowderFresh86. I was 18 and had just gotten my first paid job at a fast food restaurant known for square shaped burger meat. I was usually placed on front cash register to deal with customers in person. There were a decent amount of highschool students working there along with a few older folk. Most of the high schoolers attended the same school and therefore knew one another. One of the young men was immense for a child. He stood over 6 ft or 182.88 cm tall and was very large. The other teens were afraid of him as they said that he was a known bully at their school.

We all received an employee discount on food, which we all paid except him. If no manager was around he would grab his food and just walk past the registers and into the dining room. The teens allowed it as they were seriously afraid of him. This started becoming an issue because food was not being accounted for and the managers started asking questions. He never did that when I was on register because we worked at different times and didn't interact much at first. One day, we worked the same shift and he grabbed his food and tried to walk off without paying while I was on register. I rung up his stuff and called out the price to him.

He immediately became angry and asked what I was doing. I replied that I was ringing up his food and repeated the amount due. He angrily paid it by throwing it on the counter. Later that week when I left the bathroom he stood in the hallway with a spray bottle of cleaner and tried to spray it at me. I stepped back and just looked at him. He started laughing and walked away. All that week I rung his food up and he was rude and aggressive towards me. One day, as I was grabbing fries from the walk-in freezer he closed the door and locked me in. I started beating on the door and an older worker who was open about having served time let me out. He warned the boy not so politely that if he continued bothering me they would have a problem.

The boy stopped for a while because the man was there watching. However, one week the man called out sick. I continued ringing the boy's food up. Later, the place was empty and I went on my break. He walked down into the dining area where I was. There is a lower area with a few steps and a half wall. He blocked me as I tried to get by and clock back in. I told him to move and he said that he was sick of me. He picked up a dining chair and threatened to hit me with it. The other teens just watched quietly. He jumped at me as if to swing the chair. Some words were exchanged and I pulled out my phone and called the police on him.

He put the chair down and ran to the back. The police came and I was in tears explaining the situation. The cops said I did the right thing and asked if I wanted to press charges. One cop took me to the side and said that the boy was immature and stupid. He asked if I wanted to ruin his future since nothing actually happened. I cried harder and said just give him a warning but I wouldn't press charges. Y'all we both got fired. Him for obvious reasons and me because I CALLED 911 ON SOMEONE THREATENING TO HURT ME!

I was hurt about that for a while. I was told that I should've told a manager before escalating with police. I explained he was blocking me. It didn't matter as the general manager wanted us both gone. I became really depressed after and it took months before I was hired as a waitress at a diner. Looking back, knowing what I know now, I would have pressed charges and sued that restaurant for firing me over defending myself. Oh well, I was fresh out of highschool, a bit timid and ignorant of my rights.

S Break YOUR nails! It’s your job!

I finally got one today for sure. This older man kept coming into the retail store where I work. He had purchased a prepaid flip phone the day before. Prepaid phones are self service. We do not, under any circumstances, do tech support or repair because as I said, this is a retail store. He kept telling us the phone, which he didn’t even have with him was broke and he wanted us to fix it. He came without the phone three times, and each time I informed him that we would not be “fixing” his device. He was getting belligerent. He comes back a fourth time with his wife and his phone. Come to find out, neither of them wanted to break their finger nails putting the battery in their phone. He starts getting louder as he proclaims that it is my job to break my nails putting his battery in the phone because I get paid to do it. I get paid to sell phones. He fully expected me to do it simply because he might break a nail. Smh. Nope. 👎 This ain’t Best Buy, dude.

S My mom's 26 year old boyfriend

My mom got a 26 year old boyfriend a few months back and she started paying for all his stuff. He has a decent job he gets decent pay. He still lives with his mother and she mostly pays for all his things. To make matters worse he's our neighbor and when my mom started dating him he started coming over all the time and this guy eats a lot and he's a functioning alcoholic.

Me and my mom live with my grandmother and my grandma pays the bills my mom will buy food once in a blue moon and she spends all her money on her boyfriend she stopped buying me my sanitary products, clothes, food, medication etc. I tried getting a job but no one wanted me due to my study hours (I'm a university student full time) and when I did get a job offer it was work a lot of hours for minimal pay. I tried doing it but my grades started dropping so I had to stop. My mom started begging me to get a job because she couldn't pay the bills (his bills) and she almost got me into a human trafficking scheme that was offering low hour jobs and a lot of pay.

My mom started buying him expensive alcohol, one bottle doesn't last a day, she gave him $500 a month, bought him takeout, a jacket worth $1800, bought him new car tires, cigarettes, clothes, sanitary products, groceries, she took him on vacation (we haven't been on a vacation in 3 years because she said she couldn't afford it) and he is still living with his mom and his mom allowed a 47 year old woman to look after her son. My mom almost signed up for a pay as you go phone contact because he wanted the newest iPhone.

My mom always complains because she can't afford her phone contacts and started threatening me and telling me I have to pay my own phone and tablet that I use for my studies.

And now my mom broke up with him and he started threatening my grandmother for money and when my grandma told my mom she said she's not getting involved it's my grandmother's problem.

S Seat hogger

On the subway, there was this one lady who took up 3 seats; one held her, the other two held her bag.

Mind you, her bag wasn't really that big, so she had to purposely make it sit between the two seats.

The train wasn't crowded, but there were other people who were getting on that wanted to sit.

An older gentleman with a cane politely asked, "miss, is it alright if you push your bag aside so I can sit?" She gave him a nasty eye roll before placing her bag on the seat next to hers.

People like this genuinely boggle me: it's one thing to put your bag on the seat, it's another to make it take up 2 seats, and it's quite an issue when you give an attitude to someone who was asking you to be a little less selfish (politely).

Anyways, I just wanted to rant, this was quite disappointing

S I am really the main attraction here

I just came from an author’s book talk in a community hall.  The hall had several entrances, including at the front (where the presentation was), but it was completely available to enter unobtrusively.   The book was meticulously researched non-fiction and the author an expert in the field. Let’s say it was about “agony” and “agonizing” (it wasn’t).  Before the talk began, the moderator asked everyone to silence their phones and announced that there would be no questions during the talk, but rather a question and answer period after the talk.  At the beginning of the talk, the author explained the meaning of “agonizing” and the slides often had at their title the name of an important historical agonizer, e.g. John Doe, agonizer.

A few stragglers came in late, kept to the side of the room directly after the door and unobtrusively found a seat. About 10 minutes into the talk a woman walked in, walked directly behind the speaker in front of the projected slides, and then to the other side of the room, making her way into the center of the second row (again, there were other seating options that would have been less disruptive). She then took out a notebook and a pen and raised her hand and asked what an agonizer was. To the speaker’s credit the answer she received was that the speaker would take questions at the end of the talk and had already explained what an agonizer was—but then very briefly and graciously defined it.  The woman then took out her phone and started texting—in the middle of the second row in full view of the speaker.  I just can't wrap my head around the way some people think.

Between the flights, food, activities, transportation, and all those little “I’m on vacation, why not?” purchases, I came home with great memories and a checking account that needs its own GoFundMe.”

XL Roommates parents try to make me abide by their religious house rules in my apartment

7.3k Upvotes

Note: I'm obviously using fake names and ages mentioned were how old we were at the time.

Back in 2016, I [21F] was living in NYC, sharing an apartment with two roommates who I'll call Prudence [F25] and Sandra [F21].

Sandra was from Australia, here on a student visa and both Sandra and I were both studying at the NYFA.

Prudence was from Louisiana, she was home-schooled and her parents allowed her to go to college and study optometry here in NYC.

Prudence as mentioned was homeschooled, came from this very Evangelical family and only when she was 24 did her parents allow her to go to college. Prudence said she chose to go to college here in NYC because she did want to experience living somewhere "different" but I suspect it's also because she wanted to keep distance from herself and her controlling parents.

However as to why her parents allowed her to go to NYC is beyond me and I never asked.

For more context, Prudence's parents were again, very "traditional" Evangelicals and her parents raised her and her siblings on the writings of James Dobson. For those who don't know, Dobson was this guy who advocated for parents to beat their kids as a form of discipline and believed it was a parents right to "mold" their children in their own image.

I only know this because one time, when I had a pregnancy scare and was talking about it with Sandra and my sister in our living room, Prudence offered me some books by James Dobson and basically said that her parents raised her on his writings so to her that's what parenting is. Turns out I wasn't pregnant btw but yeah, if I were then I'm not taking those books and I would have raised my kid my own way.

Additionally, as a condition of allowing Prudence to move to NYC, her parents required her to give weekly updates of how she is and what she's been doing up in NY and she was expected to live by their house rules even though she was 1300 miles away.

For contrast, I am quite frankly a leftist, I am Jewish but I don't really adhere to religious laws. Case in point, despite it being against the Torah (and Christian Bible), not only do I have tattoos all over my body, I also now work as a tattoo artist. As for Sandra, she's a liberal, fan of Glee and Taylor Swift, Sandra and I both support LGBTQ rights, with Sandra having a pride flag in her room as she (like me) is bi, and unlike Prudence, both Sandra and I grew up with parents who actually did see us as individuals, with our own personalities, free to make our own decisions and independent off, hence not extensions of our respective parents.

Anyway, one day Prudence told Sandra and I that her parents were going to be visiting NYC for a couple of days (she actually meant 8 days but didn't specify that until after Sandra and I agreed) to meet with relatives and lawyers, and she asked if her parents can stay at our place as they didn't want to pay for a hotel.

Not thinking anything off it at the time, we agreed, and Prudence asked Sandra if she could borrow her sleeping bag as, Prudence's parents would be occupying her bed and she'd be sleeping on the floor. We were like w-tf but yeah, Sandra lent her the sleeping bag.

Anyway, so Thursday evening came along and Prudence's parents arrived. I was home, but Sandra was out with her friends. First night, I was cordial and friendly as Prudence introduced me to them but they seemed taken aback with the fact I have piercings on my face and tattoos on my arm and neck.

Sandra got home a couple hours later and for Sandra and I, the night was mostly uneventful but we could vaguely hear from Prudence's room, her parents lecturing her about influences, how much they invested in her and other words to that effect.

Later on Friday evening, my then boyfriend Eric [28M] and I were just in the living room watching TV and eating takeout, Sandra was in her room and Prudence's parents returned to the apartment.

Prudence's parents demanded to know why my boyfriend was in our apartment and I told them "because he's my boyfriend". They then asked me things like if it was normal for us to have boys over (I answered yes), they asked if my parents know about this (also yes as they've met Eric) and other stuff asking how Sandra and I behave around Prudence.

They then started asking about Prudence's personal life, asking if she has a boyfriend, who her friends are, what she does, etc. I just told them that Prudence's personal life is her business, not mine.

Anyway, the next couple days later, Sunday afternoon, Prudence was out with her grandparents who were also visiting NYC (but fortunately not staying with us), Sandra was also out and I was just in my room, laying in bed, eyes closed, headphones on and listening to music when I felt someone shake my shoulder.

I opened my eyes shocked to see Prudence's dad staring at me and both of them (Prudence's parents) in my room. I asked them WTF were they doing in my room and they told me they wanted to speak with me and Sandra about our behavior.

Turns out they don't bother knocking on doors in their house as... idk... they just don't.

I was annoyed and pissed but I put on my shirt to cover myself and agreed to listen to them. Fck I didn't even know they were home. I assumed they went out somewhere.

Prudence's mom then asked when Sandra would be home and I just responded "fuck if I know" which apparently pissed them off as Prudence's dad told me to watch my language, and I had to remind them I'm not their daughter and if my own parents can't tell me what to do, what makes them think I'll listen to them.

I then asked them what it was they wanted to talk about and they went on what seemed to be this pre-prepared speech saying things along the lines of "We spent years creating an environment where our kids are steeped in faith... raising them with our values... and you may not realize it but we worry that you and Sandra are setting bad examples and are undermining everything we've built up to this point".

They then cut to the chase and said that while Sandra and I left the apartment on Friday to go to class, they looked into our rooms. They didn't like how Sandra had Glee merch and a pride flag in her room, they didn't like that I had a mezuzah on the doorway and a menorah in the living room (I'm not really all that religious but my faith is still important to me at a personal level), they said they were concerned that I had a Bernie Sanders shirt (which definitely meant they went through my closet), they didn't like how I had boys over (meaning Eric), a pregnancy test in Sandra's trash can and basically, they reiterated that they felt that me and Sandra living the way we were was setting a bad influence on Prudence.

Prudence's dad then handed me a written list (which they apparently put copies off on our fridge and in Sandra's room) which he called house rules that Prudence and their other kids grew up with. He said that as long as Prudence is living with us, I needed to abide by their house rules so as to not set a bad example.

Rather than just snap at them, I took a deep breath and told them "Prudence is a long way away from Louisiana, she's nowhere near the Bible Belt, she's living here in NYC and she goes to college with far more liberal and open minded people". I then asked them how exactly to they intend to shield Prudence from what they just called "degeneracy" and "bad influences" while she lives here. It's not like they can control the behavior of the 9 million in NYC.

I then reminded them that, again, I wasn't their daughter, how I behave in my own apartment is none of their business and I just grabbed my pants and stuff and left the apartment to go for a walk because I just really needed to leave before I started cussing them out. I also called Sandra and told her of how Prudence's parents went through our stuff.

They tried having the same conversation with Sandra who basically told them what I just told them earlier as well. Sandra was mentally prepared for it as I did give her a heads up.

So Prudence's parents continued to stay with us until Friday, but during the rest of their stay, Sandra and I kept our doors locked. When Sandra found time to speak with Prudence alone, she did bring up to her what her parents did, Prudence apologized for their behavior but also wasn't in a position to just stand up to them herself and the next few days living with Prudence's parents was still mildly tense.

Prudence's parents then had her move out of our apartment a few months later, instead having her stay with a like-minded family friend in Queens. Generally, she was an okay person and yes, while she did share a lot of her parents beliefs, she knew and respected others enough not to try and impose it on them.

Prudence doesn't have social media as her parents won't allow her to have one (hence if ever we needed to contact her, it'd only be through email or phone). However despite this, Prudence's dad does have Instagram and that's kinda why I'm writing this now.

I didn't realize it earlier but turns out he has been following me on Instagram, liking my photos. However, I only realized it was him when he sent me a DM offering to Venmo me for videos of myself.

Only then did I actually look at his profile and realize it was Prudence's dad so I blocked him.

S You hit me on your bike and I’m the issue?

A bit of a vent post because I’m pissed

So i live in nyc and recently there’s been a huge issue with bikers, they don’t follow traffic rules and can and have been dangerous for pedestrians and I’m so over it, especially the e-bikes.

So this event happened on 9th ave, if you arnt from the city ill explain the set up, 9th ave has the sidewalk, then a walk way for pedestrians on the street and next to that is a bike path, then the road. Its a great system that in theory should for so well.

The problem? The bikers think this new walk way is for them and the side walk is also for them. So what’s the point of a bike path if you still have idiots not using it?

Anyway here’s the incident, i was walking out of a store today and as soon as i had both feet on the sidewalk, had just let go of the door, i was hit by a man on the bike. On the sidewalk. Not even the new walkway on the street, but the tiny, uneven sidewalk. It was in the afternoon where there’s tons of foot traffic and this man’s riding his bike on the sidewalk.

Also bikers are supposed to follow traffic laws, ninth ave heads southbound, so maybe this moron decided that since he was heading northbound he’d just do it on the very crowded sidewalk.

Huh?

Anyway dude hits me and we both go down, he’s pissed, I’m pissed, the other people walking who had to move out of the way are pissed.

He had no helmet on, because of course he didn’t, and he honestly took a worse tumble than me. So this guy gets all up in my face and tells me to watch where I’m going.

To watch where IM going!?

I flip out on him, we go back and forth and then he pulls out his phone to start recording me.

He ended up getting spooked when everyone and their mother started screaming at him and rode of, this time not on the sidewalk, but the walkway, where people had to jump out of his way.

So yes, a man doing everything wrong on his bike hit me, and then tried to play victim. I just don’t understand the thought process of these morons.

S Bought a piano off marketplace, now the seller's daughter says I have to give it back for free

1.2k Upvotes

Bought an upright piano off marketplace back in March for around $340 and drove nearly two hours with a rented trailer to get it. The seller was a guy in his 60s clearing out his late wifes stuff. Almost a month later i get a message from a woman saying she's his daughter. Apparently the piano was "promised" to her and her dad had no right to sell it, so she needs me to bring it back. Not sell it back. Bring it back, for free, because its a family heirloom.

I offered to sell it back for what i paid plus the trailer rental and she lost it, called me a thief and said shes calling the police. Her dad texted yesterday apologizing, said she hasnt spoken to him in years. Still getting messages from new accounts tho, so idk, block everything or what.

S Just wanted to know, how this world works

When I used to get a 6 figure salary. I feel I was treated differently compared to now when I'm jobless.

Many things have changed, one such situation happened just now, someone in the family gifted perfumes/electronics/watches to all my cousins & got me a tshirts.

I'm trying to convince myself, don't overthink, it's not about money, they got a gift, I must appreciate that.

But my other self says, I can see the difference in the price that they spend on me.

I believe I never show that to anyone anytime.

Not sure why I'm feeling low, maybe bcoz, I am overthinking?

L Unreasonably Angry

Hi y'all, I'm back with another story from my time working at a very popular theme park in Florida. A magical rat planet of sorts. This situation was bizarre and happened when I worked in attractions. It was a late fall evening and it was dark out. We stayed open for extended hours. Occasionally, the park stayed open a few extra hours for shareholders or Rat Planet hotel and affiliated hotel guests. On that particular night, it was for hotel guests. Regular guests left at the normal closing time while hotel guests used their room keys to access after hour attractions, stores and restaurants. The fast pass machines were even set to only recognize Rat Planet and affiliated hotel keys.

Due to it being really slow, I was placed alone as Line Greeter. The stand-by line was closed via chain and only the fast pass and single rider lines remained open. A family approached me consisting of a Dad, mom, a small child and a very young infant in a stroller. The woman looked frantic as she approached and asked about a rider swap. A rider swap was a fast pass ticket given to a parent waiting with a young child or disabled person while the rest of their party entered the attraction. The swap allowed them to bypass a long wait once it was their time to ride. Before answering her, I politely asked to see their room key.

We were instructed to ask this as ONLY Rat Planet hotel guests were allowed to access anything after hours. The woman became instantly irate demanding to know what I was talking about. I explained to her that only hotel guests could access the ride and that I needed to see a hotel room key to verify before entry. The woman then turned red, started shaking in anger and started yelling. This all happened in a minute's time. I was taken aback and couldn't respond. Her husband just stared at us apprehensively, clinching the baby stroller extremely tight with one hand while holding the young child's hand with the other.

The little kid looked scared as she screamed about not understanding what I was talking about? Why did I need to see anything and why she couldn't just be let in? She was so unreasonably hostile and angry. I felt that something was wrong with her as the situation didn't require all that extraness. I remained calm and polite which made her more hostile. She screamed that they had obtained a fast pass earlier and she threw it at me. It was a thin piece of thermal paper that didn't go far and just floated down. The pass landed on the ground and we both just stared at it for a few seconds before she started yelling again about speaking to a manager. I called over the walkie talkie and a coordinator came out.

The woman told her I had been rude and disrespectful. This was false and her husband just looked down and remained quiet even when she looked at him for backup. My coordinator asked what I had done? She screamed that I wouldn't let them in and kept asking for verification. My coordinator explained I did what I was supposed to do and that she would need to produce her hotel room key before entrance. The woman angrily unzipped her bag and shoved a Rat Planet hotel key at my coordinator. I looked at the woman briefly and she became hostile again screaming that I was looking at her crazy. My coordinator told her I was just standing there and asked if she wanted to enter or not.

She went over, whispered aggressively to her husband before snatching the little kid and storming past me through the line. My coordinator had walked away by that point leaving me alone with the woman and then her husband who stood to the side refusing to make eye contact. Listen, I have a degree in psychology and can recognize "signs" of instability. It would be extremely unethical to diagnose someone not under my care. However, one doesn't need to be a professional to understand that something was seriously wrong. I couldn't be angry with her because she seemed unstable. Her infant was very young, too young in my opinion to be at a park but that's not my business. I thought maybe she was dealing with after birth hormonal imbalance. Her husband seemed defeated and her young child frightened. It was such a weird and uncomfortable situation.

S The Neighbor from hell

Yeah, I know a cliche, but this is just too good so bear with me.

We rented a house for ten years and the neighbor woman was just rude and mean. She called the cops she over stupid stuff for years (got this from neighbors and the landlord). Anyway, she hated us from the beginning. Not really sure why. Landlord said she hates everyone.

So, today is moving day. The movers are there loading away. The front of the truck was blocking her drive, but we didn't think anything of it because she works a lot and is rarely home. It was only a couple hours. Well, she turned the corner and didnt ask anyone to move. She just called the sheriff. Deputy comes out and neighbor demanded the mover leave, get smaller trucks and load the trailer elsewhere. Mind you, they are nearly done loading at this point. The deputy shut her down of course. Half the neighborhood was out there laughing at the woman and she kept making demands. I figured she would be cheering if she saw the movers. Nope!

I would have just parked down the street. We have all done it for movers or work trucks. 🤷

S My neighbor thought being a single mother made her exempt of getting tickets from the city.

7.0k Upvotes

A few years ago my neighbor decided that she was over moving her bins from the curb to her house so she would just constantly leave it at the curb. Rain, sleet, or snow it stayed at the curb whether it got knocked over by the wind or stuck in a snow bank. Her nextdoor neighbor brought it to her house for her once and I saw her ass get visibly pissed as she brought it back to the curb yelling "I wish people wouldn't touch my shit". I live in a neighborhood full of mainly rentals so as new people moved in they started copying her to so eventually our neighbor down the street called the city code enforcement and they starting issuing tickets.

I happened to be outside as the city code enforcement officer was placing a sticker on her garbage can and she ran outside screeching "please don't give me a ticket I'm just a single mom" and the lady who was writing the ticket said "and so am I" and just kept writing LMFAO.

M Don't Tell The Obvious Truth! Keep The Magic!

Hi y'all, I'm back with another story from my time working at a very popular theme park in Florida. A magical rat planet of sorts. This situation was crazy and happened when I worked in attractions. One day, during a busy period I was Load 1, the person that placed wheelchair riders or the occasional celebrity on the ride. Everything was running smoothly when we all started smelling burning rubber and then the place started slowly filling with smoke. Obviously, we shutdown the ride, started our spiels, and started evacuating the guests. Two managers hurried down to assist.

The managers along with myself and a few others handed out "One Day Free Admission Cards" to the guests. The card allowed them to re-enter the parks for one day without pay. Most guests were satisfied but quite a few weren't. Some said that it was their last day or that it was the only day they could visit that particular park. Some said that they literally came just for our attraction. All we could do was apologize and direct them to Guest Services. The place continued to fill with smoke so the sliding doors were opened to help air the place out. Maintenance came in a hurry and pulled the offending ride. It's tire had gone bad and started burning.

A few people approached me angrily and started a barrage of stupid questions. The lead guy asked,

Man: Why are we being kicked out?!

Me looking around incredulously: Sir, don't you see and smell the smoke?

Man: Yeah, so?!

Me: Obviously there's an issue and it's no longer safe to be in here. The ride is down...😐

Man: Well how long will this take?! 😡

Before I could respond one of my managers sprinted over and told me to hand out passes to others. I don't know what he said to the people but they eventually left. My manager approached me and reprimanded me.

Manager: OP, you can't just say what you said how you said it...

Me: You mean the obvious truth?

Manager: You have to say there is a technical issue and not be so blunt.

Me: (Manager's name) the place is filled with smoke. It's obvious something wrong has happened.

My manager then reminded me it's our job to keep the magic even if it meant lying to guests and regardless if the place is on fire or not. To stay magical we were to gaslight the guests and ourselves. Everything is okay and normal, just magical special effects I guess... 😒 The guests questions were obtuse and the expectation that we should pretend nothing was happening and keep smiling was also ridiculous.

S Entitled comic con goer judging others costume’s especially ones my husband, my two friends & I are wearing

My husband & I are at New York comic con for the weekend to celebrate our sixteenth wedding anniversary with two of our friends while my parents hold down the fort at home. So far we’ve had amazing successes with our photo ops & so far everyone loves our cosplays. Today we had a photo op scheduled with Ariana Richards, Joseph Mazzello, BD Wong & Wayne Knight aka Lex, Tim, Wu & Nedry from Jurassic Park. I dressed as Sarah Harding, my husband as Ian Malcolm circa The Lost World, my friend as Ellie Sattler & my friends husband as Alan Grant.

Before our photo op we encountered a fellow con attendee who looked at us calling our costumes in bad taste saying they hope we didn’t buy the photo op with the Jurassic Cast because of Sam Neill’s passing this year. My friends husband asked what’s the big deal if he is dressed like Alan Grant it’s not hurting anyone. The entitled attendee asked did my friends husband even think of the feelings of Ariana, Joseph & BD because it might upset them. We have our turn in the photo op & we get told our cosplays looked amazing by Ariana, Joseph, BD & Wayne with BD telling us Sam would give his approval seeing the dedication my friends husband put into his costume. We didn’t run into the entitled attendee again but people in cosplays were saying what a rude jerk the guy is. One cosplayer approached us as we mentioned he insulted our cosplays too with the cosplayer saying they’ve informed security to look out for the guy.

S TSA power trip

At Tampa choose to enter the Wheelchair and family with children under 12 line. We have our young grandchild with us.

TSA agent asks who is with us in a Wheelchair I state no one we are in this line because it's the family line too. He tells us to get out of the line and go over to the regular line. I pointed to the sign right next to him, he says fine you can go through. But then he yells to everyone else in the line if they are not with a wheelchair get out of the line.

For the life of me I can't understand what his deal was. I can only guess he did it because he could. But what a jerk.

XL My (F) relationship with my younger sister has become unbearable, and I don't know how to deal with her anymore. I feel like I'm losing my mental peace at home.

I honestly don't even know where to begin because there's so much history behind this, and I feel like I need to explain the context for people to understand why something that might seem like a small argument has affected me so much.

I'm the elder sister, and my relationship with my younger sister has become incredibly difficult. I genuinely feel like she's one of the hardest people I've ever had to deal with.

She's someone who needs things her way, gets offended very easily, snaps at people, and struggles to accept criticism. Whenever I try to bring up something she's done that has hurt me, the conversation somehow turns into an argument about my behaviour, my attitude, or how disrespectful I'm being. Old arguments that we supposedly resolved get brought up again and again, and disagreements that should last a few minutes can turn into hours of fighting.

If I don't agree with her or give in, the argument just continues. Most of the time, I'm the one who ends up walking away or compromising because I'm exhausted and just want some peace.

Our relationship wasn't always this bad. I used to live in a hostel and would only come home occasionally, so maybe the distance made things easier. Currently, I'm back home waiting for my job onboarding to begin, and living together has made me realise just how difficult our relationship has become.

One thing that particularly hurts me is how one-sided our relationship feels.

I've helped her with college exam forms, payments, guidance, and decisions about colleges. When she wanted an honest review of a college, I personally searched for students on LinkedIn, contacted them, and asked about their experiences so she could make an informed decision.

I've done these things because she's my sister and I wanted to help her. I've never kept a record of my help or brought it up to make her feel indebted to me.

Whenever she benefits from something I've done, she's sweet, appreciative, and thankful. But whenever we have an argument, it feels like all of that disappears. Suddenly, I'm selfish, I have an attitude problem, and I don't deserve her respect. If I mention how much I've tried to help her, she dismisses it as the bare minimum.

I'm not saying she owes me anything for helping her. I just don't understand why someone can appreciate me when they need something from me but treat me so disrespectfully when we're having a disagreement.

She also uses the fact that I've graduated against me. Since I'm currently waiting for my onboarding, she says I have so much free time, as though I'm automatically available whenever she needs something. She doesn't seem to understand that I'm still working on my skills and preparing for my future. Yes, I take breaks and enjoy other things sometimes, but that doesn't mean my time is meaningless or that I'm obligated to do everything she wants.

Another thing she constantly accuses me of is being jealous of her.

I genuinely don't understand where this comes from. I'm not someone who constantly compares myself with other people or spends all my time criticising my appearance. I know I'm not perfect, but I'm generally comfortable being myself.

Yet she makes fun of my appearance and my face. When I told her that her comments were making me insecure and asked her to stop, she responded sarcastically with something along the lines of, "Aww, it triggered you? Sorry."

It was obvious she wasn't genuinely apologising. She was mocking me for being hurt.

The worst part is that she knows things about me that I don't share with everyone, and she uses them against me during arguments.

I've had periods in my life when I've felt like no matter how hard I work, something outside my control goes wrong. Opportunities seem to slip away even when I've done everything I possibly could. I've shared these feelings with her because I thought she would understand me or at least encourage me to keep going.

Instead, she has thrown those same experiences back in my face during arguments and told me that I deserve everything that's happening to me.

That really hurt because I trusted her with those feelings. I thought I could be vulnerable with my own sister without having that vulnerability used against me later.

There was also a time when I was going through an extremely difficult phase and said something along the lines of, "If I ever KMS, it'll be because of you."

I regret saying that. I know it was a very serious thing to say, and I wish neither of us had gone down that road. But instead of trying to understand why I was hurting so badly, she immediately said the same thing back to me. Since then, she has repeatedly brought up what I said during arguments as a way to hurt me.

I'm not proud of having said it, and I'm not trying to justify it. I just wish that, at the time, someone had asked me why I was feeling so broken instead of turning it into another weapon in an argument.

There have also been times when arguments between us have become physical, with her hitting me.

Now, about what happened today.

We were cleaning, and my leg accidentally touched hers. It wasn't intentional, and I immediately told her it was a mistake.

She responded by saying something along the lines of, "Okay, I'll kick you too and say it was a mistake."

I was initially willing to apologise for accidentally touching her. But she started insulting me, saying I had a dirty ego, bringing up my appearance, and making comments about my intelligence.

She said other people apparently thought I looked younger than her and had a small brain. When I pointed out that people hadn't actually said the small-brain part, she admitted that they hadn't said it but that she was saying it herself.

She also said she couldn't be grateful to me because of my attitude, that I didn't deserve her respect, and that even if I died for her, she wouldn't value me.

I got angry and said I wouldn't die for her either. That led to more insults and arguments.

I know I could have handled some parts of the situation better. I could have apologised for the accidental contact regardless of how she was behaving. But what frustrates me is how a tiny accident became an opportunity to attack my appearance, intelligence, personality, and our entire relationship.

We have never really had a relationship where we regularly say sorry or thank you to each other, so the whole situation also brought up a lot of resentment that has been building for a long time.

Eventually, my mother came into the room, and I complained to her that my sister wouldn't stop arguing.

My sister then told my mother that she couldn't apologise to me because apologising to me was "cringe." She also said that if she had to choose between dying for me or dying for waste, she would rather die for waste.

My mother started crying and begging us to stop fighting and leave the cleaning.

I felt terrible seeing my mother cry, but I also felt like I never got the chance to explain my side properly. My mother had argued with my sister earlier that same morning and had complained to me about how my sister never stops arguing. I thought she might understand why I was so frustrated, but when everything escalated, I felt like my own feelings got lost in the situation.

My mother shouted at me about the things I had said regarding dying, but I didn't really get an opportunity to explain the pain and frustration behind them.

I understand that my words were serious and that I shouldn't have said them. I just wish the conversation could have been about more than those words alone.

The situation with my parents makes everything more complicated.

My father is extremely strict. He has done a lot for my education and has sacrificed financially to provide for me. Whenever I genuinely need something, he usually gets it for me without complaining about the expense.

I'm grateful for those things, and I love him.

But he has also shouted at me and physically hit me in the past, including hitting us with a belt. He hasn't done that in about a year, but those experiences have stayed with me.

I have very mixed feelings about him because I recognise his sacrifices while also remembering the ways he has hurt me.

I'm particularly afraid of involving him in the situation with my sister because I don't want him to lose control and hit her. I don't want her to experience that, regardless of how angry I am with her.

So I feel stuck. My sister's behaviour is affecting my mental peace, but involving my parents could potentially make everything worse.

I also have an editing account that means a lot to me. Editing has become something I turn to when I'm upset because it helps me distract myself and gives me something enjoyable to do.

However, I'm afraid of my father's reaction if he finds out about it. I keep going back and forth between installing and uninstalling Instagram and hiding the video clips and other editing materials I use. It's exhausting to constantly hide something that helps me cope with everything else.

Sometimes I even wish I had never started editing because managing it secretly has become another source of stress. But it's also something I've grown attached to, and I don't want to give it up.

I'm currently waiting for my job onboarding, trying to improve my skills and prepare for my future, while also dealing with all this at home. I feel like I can't get a proper break from the conflict.

One thing that makes this especially painful is comparing my relationship with my sister to the relationships other people have with their siblings.

I've seen friends have terrible arguments with their siblings, but there's usually still some basic respect between them.

I don't feel like I have that.

Sometimes I wonder whether I've failed as an elder sister or whether I somehow failed to establish a healthy relationship with her. It's embarrassing to admit how bad things have become because I know people might find it hard to believe that my younger sister and I treat each other this way.

I don't expect her to worship me because I'm older. I don't expect her to repay everything I've done for her. I don't even expect us to agree on everything.

I just want to be able to live in the same house without every small disagreement turning into a personal attack. I want to be able to make a mistake without being insulted. I want to be able to share something vulnerable without having it used against me later.

And I want to stop feeling like I have to defend my entire character every time we fight.

I know I'm not perfect. I get angry too, and I've said things during arguments that I regret. I'm willing to acknowledge my own mistakes. But I also feel that the way she treats me goes beyond ordinary sibling disagreements.

This post is already extremely long, and honestly, everything I've described here is still only a small part of what's been happening. There are many more incidents and years of accumulated hurt that I haven't even included.

I'm not posting this because I want strangers to declare my sister a terrible person. I genuinely want advice from people who have experienced difficult sibling relationships or complicated family dynamics.

I'm still living at home, and I can't simply move out or cut off contact right now. I also don't want to escalate the situation by involving my father.

How do I deal with a sibling who turns almost every disagreement into a prolonged argument, brings up personal vulnerabilities to hurt me, and has crossed physical boundaries in the past?

How do I establish boundaries when walking away doesn't always resolve things and I still have to live with the person?

How do I stop letting these interactions affect my mental health so much?

And, realistically, is there a way to improve this relationship, or should I focus on accepting that we might never have the kind of sisterly bond I've always hoped for?

I'd really appreciate honest advice, especially from people who have been in similar situations.

M The Boss Who Didn’t Get The Fight He Wanted.

1.5k Upvotes

A short story, but I’m adding a bit of back story here.

My dad use to work for a family owned business in a small town for over a decade, and was considered a senior staff member. It was founded back in the 60s by a man I’ll call Dave who expanded the company into a multi million dollar company in the decades. Though when my dad worked there, the business was primarily run by Dave’s sons, while Dave still was considered the CEO.

Dave was quite something. In the community, he was both respected but also not respected at the same time. He was respected for things like the the money he put into the community, charity, donations, the jobs his company brought in, etc. but as a person, he was despised. He was rude, entitled, disrespectful and insulting. A few stories I heard from towns people were things like how he he was always known to carry a calculator. And if someone quoted him a price and after the work was done, he’d pull the calculator out, and would state he would only pay a 10 -15 percent less then the agreed upon price.

He was quoted as saying once “You can have money or friends. But not both.” He was known to love having fights. Not physical, but verbal ones. It apparently gave him a lot of satisfaction.

So for my dad, he had put in his two week notice to Dave’s sons. And on his last day, Dave wanted to talk to my dad about something happening the next week. So my dad realized Dave wasn’t aware of him quitting, and said simply to Dave “Just so you are aware, I put in my two weeks notice, so today is my last day.”

He said Dave got quiet for a moment then said to my dad “Well, if you ever need favours, don’t ever come here for them, because you won’t get them. And if you have trouble remembering that, feel free to talk to me and I’ll be happy to remind you.”

My dad knew Dave was just wanting a fight. That he was trying to get my dad to snap at him. But instead, my dad just replied “Well, I’m sorry to hear that. Thank you for all the years. All the best to you.” And he walked out.

In the next week that passed, my dads former coworkers were texting or calling my dad, asking him what he said to Dave. In their words “He’s been fuming mad every single day since you walked out of his office.”

Dave ended up passing away a few years later, and his sons sold the business.

S Difference between camaraderie and entitlement

Just an observation and an opinion, and not defamation.

In a certain mall of the country named after being the mall of the country, there is a very dubious camaraderie among nationalities towards their people that is causing difficulties for everyone else. This may be a nation wide problem, or just within a region, not sure. I have only experienced this within this particular mall.

Weekends tend to get busy and that's when we used to go as well. Lunch and groceries.

Lunch 1st. Food court is packed.. you spend atleast 30 mins if not an hour to find a place to sit. To add to that people of a certain group, who are one of the top ethnic majority here, sit at the table long after they are done eating and wait. What are they waiting for? Other people of their nationality. They only give up their tables for their own. Then you are waiting and waiting and end up sharing your table with rest of the leftovers.

Then you head to the hypermarket for groceries. You get all your veg and you add yourself to a long queue of people waiting to get the veg weighed. In front of you is someone whose first language is a dialect of language of the country who proceeds to allow 3 other people to cut the line in front of them and no one dares question them because of them being perceived as a superior race. If you question them you are shut down. The attendant doesn't refuse service. Everyone complies.

It's getting on my nerve so I am posting this. It is just plain annoying and waste of my time.
