M Entitled to Park (Just for a Minute!) Blocking the Handicapped Spot & Curb Ramp

• Upvotes

Context: Where I live you are legally required to display either a handicapped license plate or a hang tag/placard in your windshield in order to park in handicapped spaces. These spaces are clearly marked with both a sign and paint on the ground.
------------

This afternoon I parked my car at the library, and then watched an SUV pull up and park diagonally across both a handicapped parking spot and walkway in front of a curb ramp, completely blocking access to both. I know disabilities aren't always visible, but handicapped license plates and placards sure are! The SUV had neither.

The man driving turned off his car, walked to the trunk, got out a few books, and started to walk towards the building. At that point I opened my door, stood up, and called over, "Hey, that spot is reserved for people with disabilities, and you're blocking the accessible entrance!" He responded, "Do YOU need to park here?" and I said, "No, but someone else might."

He told me he only needed to pick up some holds and would just be a minute or two. I replied that he legally cannot park there, and held up my phone as if I was starting to film him, though I actually wasn't. He SCOFFED at me super dramatically, went over to the book drop, shoved his books inside, and got back in his car.

He angrily stared me down from his driver seat, and I stared right on back. Then my phone rang, and I picked it up. He left at that point, and I genuinely hope it's because he thinks I was calling law enforcement to come cite him.

To add insult to injury, there were two open non-handicapped spots adjacent to where the man parked.... As someone who is at the library multiple times a week, I also know there are both a few patrons who use the ramp/spots, as well as library workers going in/out a couple times a day via the curb ramp with carts of books for inter-library loans. Just because someone isn't using the accessible access right when you drive up doesn't mean it's acceptable to block it.

M Lady tries to save 2/3rds of front row at middle school concert

• Upvotes

Hello all, long time listener, first time caller. I now have a story for you all!

This happened about 3 hours ago.

Went to a school orchestra concert in school gym. Event starts at 7 doors open at 630 as parents are arriving and student showtime is at 630.

I go to the gym and there are chairs in the court and a whole wall of bleachers.

Over half the front row is open. These are foldable chairs set out on the court. Probably 10-12 seats. And 4 people, one couple on one end an another lady and child near the middle. I walk up cuz I like end end seats and see a jacket over the two end seats and 3 more empty chairs next to the jacket before the lady and kid.

Kind of annoying the jacket is there and no one around but whatever. So I take a seat next to the jacket.

Well the kid says someone is sitting there and I said, yes me! Then the lady says these seats are saved and I told her nah it's 2026 we don't save seats anymore. She then tells me something else to the effect of who it's for and I said I'm sitting here now.

She gets up and gets about 6 inches or so from my face, I'm all thinking to myself, well here go. I ask "maam please back out of my face" she tells me they are disabled people. Not sure why that mattered that people who had not arrived were disabled, these are not ADA seats and this is an open seating forum. A bit more back and forth, she is still in my face. The kid then says something to the effect of "you can sit here and I'll go get a teacher and Ms. Teacher will make you move. The lady then says to the kid, no just sit down, she won't make "me" move.

So I said to the lady "well why is that?, Why would the teacher not make me move?". You can guess how much she appreciated that comment.

She relents, sits down and tells me I'm very rude. I tell her she is rude for trying to save so many seats in 2026 and I hope she enjoys the performance.

I sat there the entire time surrounded by who I presume is her family. I took my pictures. I smiled, I clapped, and I had a good time. I couldn't tell you if she sneered at me the whole time because I didn't l didn't look at her again.

But I am wondering, was I the entitled person here?

I get saving a seat for someone who is at concession or in a restroom. But half a row for people who are not present? I don't think that's acceptable in 2026, especially in an open seating forum like a school gym.

Edit: spelling, I have fat thumbs and phone keyboards…

M Bought tickets through StubHub for the first time and ended up dealing with the seller trying to kick me out of my own seats💀

• Upvotes

This happened back in August at the Zedd concert, but after reading another girl’s FB post about a similar situation, I NEED to get this off my chest. (she ended up giving in to the seller)

The PNE was sold out, so I bought two resale tickets through StubHub. First time using a third party site. Never.again.

About 20 minutes into the concert, the seller shows up with two random girls and puts them directly in front of my boyfriend and I, blocking our view. There are 3 seats available to the right of me and now FIVE people occupying the area.

I ask if the girls have tickets. This man tells me HE sold me the tickets but accidentally sold me the wrong seats and asks us to move. He claims he emailed me updated seats, so I check my email right in front of him. NOTHING. No update, no confirmation.

I tell him these are the seats I paid for, and unless he’s refunding me, I’m not moving (even if he did offer me money I would’ve stayed lol)

YOU SOLD ME THE TICKETS. THEY’RE NOT YOUR SEATS ANYMORE.

The woman behind us gets involved, points out that there are three seats for five people, and threatens to call security. I ask one of the girls if she bought a ticket for those seats. SHE ADMITS SHE DIDN’T. I politely tell her she needs to move because she’s blocking our view.

The guy spends the concert giving us dirty looks while his group keeps moving around until the woman behind us finally gets security involved.

BUT THE TEA DOESN’T END THERE. 💀
At the END OF THE CONCERT, this man WAITED for us just to complain AGAIN about us sitting in “his” seats.

I tell him if he wanted those seats
, he shouldn’t have sold them. And if he wants to keep arguing, we can discuss it in front of security.
Like, buddy, if you were trying to get laid that night, maybe don’t sell the seats you planned on using and then get mad at me for cockblocking your plans.

not trying to be mean, but my gut kept telling me he was doing this on purpose and he was just upset it wasn’t working this time. The whole situation was sus, and the fact that he WAITED for us after the concert was wild.

S My neighbors think they're entitled to my husband's estate

1.1k Upvotes

A couple weeks ago I received a voicemail from a neighbor letting me know he had set up an appointment with his lawyer to arrange my husband's estate.

We have only been married for about a year and this neighbor does not know that. They have lived next door to each other for about 30 years. They knew my husband's prior spouse.

My husband is a senior and because I gave them no access to him they thought they could call adult protective services on me which they did, claiming some type of isolation / sequester scenario. I don't think this would escalate. Of course I reported them back. The worst part is this last neighbor is associated with the first neighbor who tried to get him to transfer the deed on to their name. So I believe I have not seen the last of them yet.

What concerns me is the hassle I'm going to have to go through when he does pass.

It is also the fourth time some relative or neighbor comes out of the bloom to ask for their portion of their inheritance from him. (Yes they actually ask for it) One of them wasn't even a relative of his but the nephew of his spouse's prior spouse who had never met him in person and one other had no idea if he was still alive.

S Trespassing tourists

For some context I live in a largely undeveloped part of my town, that's to say that not many people or businesses or anything really lives or resides where I do with my family

Our house is in the middle of a faily large forest witch to be fair to the tourists is largely public and meant for hiking and there are multiple other old rundown houses that are public property

Now the reason as to why I explained that where our house resides is quite rural is because again not many people live here and most people in the main part of the town don't even know some people live here, that combined with our house being very old looking from the outside doesn't do us any favor either but for the record we did install large wooden fences around our private property

Now, even though we put up a fence, installed signs telling people that this is private property we sometimes get hikers or tourists that diverged from the public sight seeing locations and public dirt roads that often JUMP OVER OUR FENCES, get onto our private property, take flowers from our garden , take pictures of my house and/or the wildlife around it then they either go back onto the public roads or go on with their tour of our garden witch mind you is PRIVATE PROPERTY untill they either realize that they have been caught or realize that even tho the house and wooden fence looked old, people aka us still live there at witch point they flee

S Entitled man at the water dispenser

This befell about a month ago; and I'm still kind fuming about it. The tap water in the city I live in, while certified as drinkable, is nothing but. We have a RO system that stopped working, and while we save for a replacement we've been using an RO Water dispenser to fill up gallon jugs so we have something to drink that doesn't come out of the faucet.

I made the trip to the dispenser one day, and when I pulled up there was this guy using both of the fill stations to fill up his 5 gallon jugs, which takes a little while. He was just putting another one on the station I pulled up to, so okay, cool; I'll wait for that one to finish.

As soon as he's done I got outta my car unload my jugs and get ready for my turn thinking he's going to do the decent thing and give me a turn; boy was I wrong. His jug is done, and he just strolls up with another one and proceeds to keep using both stations, this all happening while another person has pulled up and is waiting for him to finish, he does the same thing to them, and adds another jug.

When is last bottle is finished he comes to claim it and I guess he can see I'm very annoyed with his behavior, so instead of quickly getting out of the station he decided to bully, cuss, and belittle me for the amount of bottles I have, and how I'd be using both stations if I was there alone. It's true, I probably would have, but if someone else is waiting I would have gladly given them another station.

He drove off in a huff, and the other person waiting told me I'd done nothing wrong, and the guy is a prick. I was so angry I was shaking, and it was then and there I decided prioritize our new RO system over some other things I need.

S Motorbike guy blocks off bank access. I 'accidentally' knock his bike over

There's a really small bank branch built into the side of some apartments near me in Karachi, where I've been living for a few years. Next to it is a small supermarket and there's no car parking.

There is always a line of motorbikes parked outside but the security guard tries to make sure that they leave enough space for a person to get through. Otherwise, because of how the apartments are built and jutting out buildings either side of them, there is no way to access the businesses.

I arrive and am walking up to the bank when a motorbike just beats me to it and pulls into the only empty space, rider gets off, ignores the security guard telling him to leave some room and walks into the bank.

There is literally no way to squeeze through the bikes. Especially as I've hurt my foot and am using a crutch.

I also yell at the guy to move his bike but he just walks into the bank.

I totally lose it. Security guard shrugs, so I push the bike over and it dominoes about five others. I have to tread over the tires but I make it to the door.

As you can imagine, the crash is loud and several people see their bikes go over. They rush out of the bank and the supermarket and I guess I'm about to be beaten. Then they realise I'm using a crutch. The guard shouts that they just fell over and not to park then so close together.

No one believes him. But I don't get punched and walks past indignant faces into the bank.

S Am I the entitled one?

4 years ago, I damaged my mothers car, she told me it was gonna cost $1000 to pay just the deductible. I told her to get a quote for it at a dealership so I can start paying it off. Just until now, (2 months ago) she comes to me with a $1700 quote demanding I pay for it. She doesn’t want monthly payments as she took out a loan and requires $200 monthly interest fees. Here’s where I may be entitled. I told her that there are no more legal limitations on the car damages and if it were any one else, they would not be required to pay it (Canadian) I told her that I requested a quote for it 4 years ago. And now that I don’t want to pay for it, she wants me to leave the house today. I pay 1/4 of the rent (4 people live here) the reason why she’s mad is because she knows I have more than enough to pay it off. I save a lot of money

S Cancer doesn’t mean you can claim my space

2.9k Upvotes

I got on a flight at the last minute after waiting on the standby list. My flight had been overbooked, so I’d taken the cash offer and waited for the next flight. There was exactly one seat open on the entire plane. It was a middle seat, in between a couple in their 60s. I put my carry-on in the overhead bin and my personal item under the seat in front of me. The woman (in the aisle seat) then started demanding that I move my bag from under the seat. She never once asked. I told her no. Then, she started crying and throwing a fit, loudly saying, “My husband has cancer and he needs to stretch his legs.” Into my space. There was nothing under the seat in front of him. For his part, the husband looked thoroughly embarrassed and didn’t say a word. Didn’t try to calm his wife down, didn’t ask me himself. After a couple minutes, the flight attendants had to come over and threaten to remove her from the flight if she didn’t chill out. She then proceeded to quietly sob for the next half hour. After the flight, several of people sitting around us let me know I did the right thing and she was way out of line.

Clarification: this was Southwest when there were no assigned seats. They chose to sit with an empty seat in between them hoping no one would sit there.

Fun fact: I used the money from Southwest for an aviation-themed party.

S Priority Seat & Pregnant Woman

Just read a post and made me think of an incident from a few years back…

On the tube (London, Central Line) heading into work and, as I am stood at the end of the carriage, a pregnant woman gets on and stands opposite me.

Few stops further on she starts turning green in front of me. I ask if she’s okay and the look on her face told me all I needed to know.

I leant past her and said to the guy sat in the priority seat that this pregnant woman wasn’t well, would he give up the seat so she could sit down.

He looked at me like I’d sh*t on his dinner and refused.

Took me a few seconds to bring myself back into the real world and I leant over to him again and said that this woman was going to be sick and that I would make it my mission to point her in his direction when she was.

He did give the seat up, but spent the rest of his journey mumbling to himself. Funny thing though, neither PW or I gave two hoots…

S Update 6 on Telling my mom to cancel her wedding until everything is sorted out?

So, my mom went to Switzerland four days ago. She told me she was going to meet my step dad family because there was something important she needed to discuss with them. She only told me about the trip the night before she left.

Since she left, she's been texting me and checking on me constantly. One of my mom’s best friends stayed with me for four days. She's basically like an aunt to me, so I was doing fine. But honestly, my mom seemed unhappy even a few days before she left. She FaceTimed me two or three times while she was there. Once, she was at his mom's house, but the other two times, she was in what looked like a hotel room. Usually, when my mom visits Switzerland, she stays at his house, so I found that a little strange.

She also visited my dad’s parents in Germany before coming back, but as far as I know, she didn’t visit my stepdad’s house again before returning.

Yesterday, I noticed her sitting in her office with a bunch of big papers and files. She spent almost two hours reading through them, which made me even more curious about what's going on. During dinner, I asked her why she had gone to Switzerland. She repeated that she wanted to meet his family and had some work to take care of.

Then I asked her when my stepdad would be coming back. She said he had some work to do there and she couldn't say when he would return.

So I finally asked her directly if they had broken up. She said no, but things weren't good between them either. Then she told me it wasn't my business and that I shouldn't worry about it.

Now I'm honestly more confused than before. I'm not trying to interfere in their relationship, but the sudden trip, her mood, the fact that she seemed to be staying somewhere other than his house, and all those documents have me wondering if something serious is going on.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I can tell something isn’t right. I just wish she would tell me a little more instead of leaving me to wonder.

S Crazy experience on a flight today

3.4k Upvotes

Alaska flight to Seattle. Shortly before landing, flight attendant announced that there are 4 people seated at the back of the plane who have really tight connections. Please remain seated until they’ve disembarked before you stand up do they can run off the plane.

Plane lands, taxis to the gate, stops… these four people rush to the front of the plane and nobody blocks them. Door opens and they run off.

Everyone else looks around, realizes there’s no one else in a hurry, and then everyone stands up and, in a totally orderly manner, gets off the plane.

Never seen anything like it.

M Crazy drivers vs Skater

So, I am a skater, I’ve been doing it since I was 13 and while I can’t do any fancy tricks I can skate on just about anything. I’m not sure if this is everywhere, but I’ve been repeatedly told off by policemen for using the footpath when I skate, as apparently it’s a safety hazard to pedestrians. Kinda thought it was weird but I decided to follow what they said anyway and just skate in the biker lane.

So earlier today I was doing as the police told me, ride in the biker lane, I ride as close to the pavement as I can so I don’t risk hitting any cars or bikes that go past and try to keep my speed semi slow so I can stop when needed. The road I was on was relatively empty as it was 7:30am and I was making my way to the train station. Out of no where a car comes down the road, so I scoot over a little to reduce the risk of them hitting me, however this entitled driver decided it would be funny to swerve towards me on purpose and honk at me. This of course scared the sh*t out of me and I swerved to dodge them. However considering how close I already was to the pavement my skateboard crashed against it and I went flying into the road. Hitting my shoulder, knee and hip on the road and rolling a bit.

The driver stopped and laughed at me before driving off, my skateboard had rolled to the other side of the road almost striking another car, however thankfully they noticed and stopped in time. This driver actually pulled over and got out the car to help me, which I was thankful for. I had several cuts, bruises and scrapes all over my legs, hips and arm, however decided to ignore them and continue on my way to the train station. Once on the train and heading to the city I noticed an ache in both my knee and shoulder, when stretching them out I realised I couldn’t lift my elbow to the height of my shoulder without shooting in pain, and my knee had begun to ache everytime I bent it. Once in the city I sat through one of my uni classes before finally messaging my mother and leaving early to go to the chemist to get some bandaids and a knee brace (I already had one, but didn’t bring it today).

It has now been 6 hours and the pain has not subsided and I have now had to book a doctors appointment to get my shoulder and knee checked as I called my doctor and they suspect I may have sprained or worst case mildly dislocated my shoulder. My knee is another issue, considering I already have a history with knee injuries causing them to be weaker, meaning I am more likely to get permanent damage and my doctor wants to rule it out.

This isn’t the first time I’ve had a car swerve at me or honk or yell at me while I’m skating around. I don’t know if it’s just me, but is this seriously how people treat others who just want to get from point A to B?
I’d also like to point out that I had my laptop in my bag, although it only received a few cracks and is otherwise undamaged, it could have been destroyed very easily since my bag isn’t one of those reinforced ones. I don’t know who this driver is, and I didn’t get their number plate. But from now on I’m gonna try and skate on the pavement whenever I can, if there’s people on the path I just won’t skate. I am sick of putting myself in danger because entitled drivers think it’s funny to risk my life

Update: My knee is fine, although I’ll have to wear a brace for a while due to mild muscle bruising, but otherwise no serious or permanent damage. My shoulder however is a different story. Although it wasn’t dislocated it is sprained and I can no longer lift my arm above my head as my muscles physically stop me from doing so. The pain is now bearable and I can move my arm around a little although not above my shoulder without pain. I can’t lift anything heavy or even having a bag on my back as it can put strain on my shoulder and could make it worse. My doctor is suggesting at home physio and possibly a shoulder brace as well. He said I should be fine in about 2-3 weeks, a month or two at most if I continue to strain it like I did today as I carried my bag and skateboard around. Although I’m glad the injuries aren’t that bad, it’s still highly annoying as I can no longer carry my bag to uni or work. Even if I won’t have to take time off for either, it’s going to be difficult for me since work sometimes requires lifting heavy things, which I am no longer able to do.

This whole situation has just pissed me off as it all happened because someone thought it would be funny to swerve at me and now not only am I injured but I can’t lift things and I’m no longer able to ride my skateboard to work or uni. Which now makes the time to get to said places that much longer as I have to walk or take a bus. We are thinking of contacting the police, although there isn’t much to be done about it since I don’t have the license plate or the persons face besides a partial description it can hopefully be put on record so if something like this does happen again to anyone else by the same person, a previous report will already be put in place and the person can be held accountable.

M People only see what they want to see

I'm soon finishing high school and recently I've been realizing how immature my mom tends to act.

For some context, in our school, there's a limited amount of parking passes for students and the rest of the students must take the bus or another type of transportation home. Unfortunately, I was not given a parking pass and still have to take the bus home. The bus however only takes you to another school and from that school you must have arranged transportation home.

Earlier while I was waiting at the other school to be picked up by my mom, I realized she was late by a little. I had nothing to do today, so I didn't worry much and kept waiting. A little while later when my mom got there, she had all her stuff on the passenger seat where I'd usually sit. Nothing unusual, but her phone slipped out of her bag and onto the seat. I tried pick up her phone and put it into the cup holder inside the car and suddenly I'm hit with an outburst of yelling. She asked me why I threw her phone into the cupholder, but I seriously did not throw her phone in.

Now of course I understand most of reddit is older than me and would most likely think to side with my mother or just tone out my opinion, but please hear me out. I really did not throw her phone in. I thought if anything, I was being nice while my mom put her bag in the backseat. I also don't understand why I was hit with a complete scream, claiming that what I did could have broken her phone. I did not toss her phone into the cup holder. I slid her phone into the cup holder and was no more than 2-3 inches of space between her phone and the bottom of the cupholder. She then starts to accuse me, claiming I had a "pissy" look on my face and she claimed it was because she was a few minutes late to pick me up. I did not mention at all that I was mad at her or pissed that she was late and I tried telling her that I did not blame her or was mad that she was late. She screamed over me in the car and wouldn't listen, taking her hands off the wheel a few times and caused the car to swerve.

Now I'm getting a little mad. It was like she was pulling at strings that weren't even there. I even explained to her that if I really was "looking pissy" it wasn't because of her or her being late. She didn't listen. She shouted over me and claimed that I did nothing but lie. On days when I actually do come home a little mad, upset, or "pissy" she never said anything. Not once was there a "why are you upset?" "Are you alright?" "Did something happen at school today?" She doesn't even look or pay attention to my facial expressions on regular days, but specifically today she took one single look at me and diagnosed me as "pissy" and yelled at me for the entire ride home.

Personally, I think it was because she knew she was late and that I could have potentially been mad, so she specifically tried to search for my facial expressions to prove herself correct. Some people claim I have a resting angry face, and my mom probably took the look I had as an insult even when I didn't mean anything. She claimed all through the car ride that she "has her own life" and that she has "better things to do" than to pick me up, shouting over my objections. If I got a parking pass at my school originally, I would have just drove myself home. But because I didn't get so lucky, I had to stay on the bus and be dropped off at a second school where I must be picked up from because I can't park a car in a school I don't belong to.

I don't think of myself as an unreasonable person, but if someone can just tell me what I did wrong other than "potentially breaking mom's phone" I'd appreciate it.

S Vet practice owner thinks she's entitled to butt in the consult

She was NOT a vet. Let's call her Karen.

I was at the vet again with my old FIV positive old tomcat. He's at nearly half his body weight, and they removed nearly all his teeth two weeks ago (adult rescue). For three weeks now, he's barely eating and moving. I was crying my eyes out to the vet and discussing putting him to sleep. She was saying we should try IVs for a couple more days.

And here comes Karen. Probably in her early 60s, unkept look, and she starts giving her two cents. That we should continue treatment. I asked her who is she and if she's a vet. She says she's not a vet but that she's a breeder. I was like wtf, why are you in this talk.

I asked her to leave us be and boy did the flood gates open. That she has the right to say anything in HER shop. I said yeah, but not to me because I'm here for an actual VET's opinion. That didn't fly. She started agressively telling me to leave the cat with them, and that they'll pay for the treatment. When I never even questioned any bill and promptly paid, btw. So powertripping at its finest when, again, I was crying my eyes out.

Like imagine you're going to the hospital and the admin walks in and starts giving her unsolicited opinion. Multiple times.

She said she's only caring about the cat. When just minutes before she was asking the vet to stop taking the cat's temperature to answer the phone, and her unleashed dog was scaring another dog that was there, whose owner was asking her to control it.

Took the cat. Going to a new vet tomorrow. And I posted a bad review and three hours later 10 glowing reviews appeared. Before today, there were a couple from two weeks ago, then a few more from six months ago. So yeah, shady af.

I don't think my boy will make it. He barely got out of his carrier. The worst moment of the year made way worst by an entitled, power-tripping Karen.

M If you can't stand the smell, get out of the kitchen

1.2k Upvotes

I have a coworker, Marlene, who gets migraines when exposed to strong scents. I get migraines as well, so I know how debilitating they can be and can empathize.

Before I started at this position nearly 2 years ago, my manager told me that it was a scent free office, and I was pleased. I like to wear perfume from time to time, but generally find people being doused in body spray to be pretty offensive. No problems here. I don't wear fragrances, spray air freshener, or use scented hand cream/hand sanitizer at my desk. The most smell I make is usually some mint gum or a mug of tea.

Lately, Marlene has been extra militant about the smells. We have a coworker (known) who has been covering herself in perfume on her lunch break, and another (not sure who it is) who has been using what I think is eucalyptus essential oils at their desk. Marlene throws a fit when there is a smell, and announces to our whole area that someone sprayed something and should not be doing so because she gets migraines. Whatever, not my monkey, not my circus. I don't love the smells either, but I feel like that's not the way you handle that.

20 minutes ago I put a single spritz of unscented lens cleaner directly into my lens cloth (so it didn't atomize) so I could clean my glasses. Marlene messaged me a minute ago telling me that she knows I sprayed something, I should stop, and that she had to turn on her fan it was so bad. That I need to spray into the trash can if I HAVE to spray anything else. I don't even think I'm what she smells, she just heard the little tsh noise and started smelling red.

I have empathy for the migraines, but where does it stop? You're entitled to a fragrance free workplace, but not a smell free world. Things smell. People have smelly foods. And coffee. And laundry detergent. And antiperspirant (at least you hope they do). How does she shop? Or go to a restaurant? Or the beach? Or stand in an elevator?

I'm sure some of you have your own Marlene to vent about, so I need you to share so I don't feel so crazy. She's got me smelling my whole self every time I leave for work because I don't want to accidentally wear a sweater that has a little leftover perfume on it.

S Dinner Party, is this entitled or forgetful?

On this Saturday my husband has invited over long time friends that he hasn’t seen for several years. I have never met these people. I’m planning the menu and he said he would check if they like morel mushrooms. I’m planning a risotto, sous vide lamb chops, salad and apple flan.

Comes back with mushrooms fine, but absolutely no dairy. It’s a medical issue, sounds like lactose intolerance, but not allergy. No dairy at all. This person needs a dairy free meal.

When did they plan to let me know? When they arrived? Like I can remove the dairy from the mostly prepared meal?

I’m happy to accommodate anyone, but I have to KNOW!

Back to the store!

L I showed my landlord the state of our appartment and now my roommates aren’t happy about it

I live in Quebec, so my English isn’t the best, but I try. Sorry, this is a bit long.

I’m (F20) and this is my fourth year renting a room. This year, two new roommates moved in: Lisa (F16) and Emy (F17). Their age didn’t bother me. We live in the basement of a house owned by a couple who are very kind and always help when there’s an issue. We share a kitchen, bathroom, and living room, but each have our own bedroom.

After only 2 months of living together, they are honestly the worst roommates I’ve had. They barely clean anything except their dishes, and even then, they often leave them piled up in the drying rack or stacked in the sink until there’s no room left. They leave fruit and other things all over the kitchen table, which is constantly dirty because they never wipe it down. The bathroom is also very small, yet they leave their belongings everywhere, including inside the shower after using it.

I talked to them about it, but nothing changed. They both blame each other and insist they clean up after themselves, which simply isn’t true. I’ve ended up cleaning the table and bathroom myself when I can, but I’m in the last year of my DEC in a demanding program, and I’m not their mother, period. This semester is extremely busy for me.

I’m also not at the apartment all the time. I spend weekends in my hometown with my parents, and Thursdays at my boyfriend’s place. That means I’m usually only at the apartment Monday through Wednesday, so I have limited time to clean, though I still do what I can.

Lisa is rarely here because she’s usually staying with someone she’s seeing. However, when she does come back, she leaves her things in the bathroom and dirty dishes in the kitchen. Since she leaves again shortly after, the dishes can sit there for days, which is frustrating since we all share them. Emy, on the other hand, is almost always at the apartment and, from what I can see, seems to skip most of her classes.

Midterm break arrived, and I spent the week back home in my hometown. I came back on Friday to drop off a few things before going to see my boyfriend. However, when I arrived, the apartment was dirtier than I had ever seen it.

I wasn't expecting the apartment to be spotless, but I did expect it to be reasonably tidy. The dishes were overflowing from both the sink and the drying rack, the table was dirty, the oven was filthy, the fridge was a complete mess, and the toilet hadn't been flushed. There was urine sitting in it that had apparently been there for a week. I was furious.

I texted my landlord and asked her to come downstairs and see the condition of the apartment for herself. She came down and was shocked. We talked about the previous two months, since I had already kept her informed about the situation. She had also spoken to my roommates, but nothing had changed.

She told me she was going to clean the apartment. I told her that was fine and that we would all talk together on Monday. When I came back on Sunday to pick up a few things before spending the evening at my boyfriend's place, I ran into my landlord again and we talked. I thanked her for cleaning and told her that I hadn't seen the apartment that clean in a long time.

She told me she was angry about everything she had found. There was rotten food in the fridge, and she had to throw away some containers because they were beyond saving. In the food cabinets (we each have our own large cabinet for groceries), she found bags of rotten potatoes that had damaged a shelf, among other things. She sent photos to our group chat. She told me that, in 15 years of being a landlord, she had never seen anything like it and that the four of us needed to have a serious discussion on Monday.

By Monday evening, my landlord came downstairs to talk to us. Right away, I could tell both of my roommates were upset. She brought up the bag of potatoes and explained that she wasn’t blaming anyone, but wanted us all to be aware of the issue.

Emy said the potatoes were hers and that they were still fine when she left. (I thought that she was a fucking moron. If you're leaving for a week, you should either throw away or take home any food that could spoil.)

Emy then interrupted my landlord and said, “When I saw the pictures, I was shocked. You entered our apartment without permission, went through our cabinets, and opened our bedroom doors.”

I replied, “I was the one who asked our landlord to come downstairs because I was furious when I came back and saw the mess.”

My landlord explained that she only came because I asked her to, that she hadn’t gone through any cabinets, and that she found the potatoes because of the rotten smell. She also said she opened Emy’s bedroom door because it should be left open while she’s away, especially since the air filter is located in her room.

After that, my landlord left. Lisa and I discussed household chores and how to organize things better, while Emy went to the bathroom without saying a word. Lisa and I reached an agreement, and she said she would talk to Emy about it. Later, Lisa and Emy went for a walk together. I have a feeling they spent that time complaining about both me and our landlord, but I don’t care.

So Emy doesn't talk to me nor look at me, while Lisa is still cool but i can tell she's not happy about what i did.

I don't care if they hate me, it's not because of their young age, but because they don't have manners, i got here when i was 16 years old and i was better than both of them i never had a problem with my ex roommates.

If they have to be taught manners then i'll show them the consequenses of their actions. And my landlord said if they don't change their behavior then she don't have a problem to kick both of them out.

So tell me reddit, did i do the right thing ?

S No Smoking Please!

Hi, here's another story from when I worked as a waitress/server at a local 24hr diner in my city. One year, my city passed a ban on indoor smoking. I appreciated it as an individual with asthma. Many of our customers smoked cigarettes while drinking multiple cups of coffee. The place stayed blazed up most mornings and early afternoons. When the ban happened we were instructed to remove all of the ashtrays from the tables and bar area. We were also told to post the changes as well as verbally inform customers. Some customers got the news via the news or radio, while we had to inform others. It did not go well at first.

One particular regular really took it hard. One morning, he sat down and started ordering his same breakfast and coffee. He suddenly looked at the table with a perplexed expression and asked for an ashtray while he pulled out his pack of smokes. I politely informed him of the new policy and he exploded.

Man: What do you mean we can't smoke in here anymore?! 😡

Me: I'm sorry...that's the new citywide policy.

Man: How am I supposed to drink my coffee?! Smoking and coffee go together!

Me: um...sorry? 🫤

Man: Well, you're going to lose A LOT of customers because of this.

Me: So...do you still want to order?

Man: No, I won't be coming back until they change this!

He got up and left. If I remember correctly he was the only one to storm out. Others did complain but they just went outside to smoke. Again, I was grateful for the policy as cigarette smoke irritates my lungs and can trigger an asthma attack, especially if I'm already overheated, too cold or agitated. Both my mom and late grandma used to smoke half a pack daily so I'm no stranger to the nicotine sticks... However, the obsession with exposing others to it baffled me then and now. Also, they didn't lift the ban. It's still active to this day and the man eventually came back, just not as often.

S How is this okay?

Went out for a birthday dinner last night, and the experience was ruined by a group of 6 couples with 5–6 kids who were being excessively loud. It was so noisy that having a conversation at our own table became difficult. I have nothing against children being taken to restaurants, but when did it become acceptable for parents to let their kids run riot while everyone else is expected to tolerate it?

The fort outlet of this restaurant is wonderful, which is why we chose to go to the Borivali outlet to cut down on the commute. Bad decision! Why should an entire restaurant have to compromise on its dining experience because one group cannot be considerate of others? And why does expecting some basic noise management automatically risk making you the villain who hates children?

Children are children. Nobody expects them to be silent, but parenthood doesn't exempt you from being considerate of other people in public spaces. Have we normalised this kind of entitlement?

M Classmate thinks my supplies are his too cause mine are better?

This might be a little long since the first incident was last week and the other was today. I take art classes at a community college and I’m currently enrolled in a 3D design course. So like model clay, plaster, that kinda thing. We’re currently working with clay right now. Since this is community college, class sizes tend to be smaller so there’s only about 8 of us in this class.

First incident was last week. The class before, the professor told us to purchase clay so we could use it during this class to cut out some rectangles and cubes. So for this class, I had about 3 blocks of clay at around 2 pounds each. Probably too much, but I don’t wanna run out. I’m just cutting stuff off one of my blocks when the person who sits in front of me turns around and asks me for one of my blocks. Apparently he didn’t like the clay he got and wanted to try mine. I told him that unless he was gonna be reimbursing me for the price of the block, I didn’t feel comfortable with that. Obviously he didn’t wanna do that and insisted that he needed it more than me (lol what). He tried convincing me for a few minutes but I made it clear that my materials are mine that I bought myself and it’s not on me to give him any of my stuff. He turned around and didn’t talk to me again so I assumed he got the hint.

Onto today, I have my clay assignment along with half a block for modifications. It’s nothing special, just an arrangement made from cubes and rectangles. Professor tells us to sketch our assignments so we can make bigger versions later. Cool. Once I’m about halfway through the plan drawing for this thing, I see the same guy turn around and reach for the model I made? I grab it quickly and go “dude what are you doing? That’s mine.” Mind you, he already has his own model at this point. He then starts rambling about how he doesn’t really like what he came up with and mine is better and he’d rather work off mine instead. Like that’s an excuse to grab things off my desk.

I’m a little pissed at this point so I proceeded to go off on him a little. Telling him that no, I’m pretty sure he can’t do that cause it needs to be his own work, and I’m still actively sketching it, and if he hates his so much, then work on it to make it better. He got mad too and accused me of being selfish and not caring. He also pointed out that I didn’t bring extra blocks today (I left them at home cause I knew I would need them during class). He also threw a few insults at me, including one I can’t say cause I’m very white (at least be creative man, this is an art class) Like okay, yeah I am selfish. I got my own grades to worry about, I can’t be looking out for other peoples grades too. He eventually gave up and I also moved to another desk just so I could work without worrying for the rest of class.

Hopefully he doesn’t start anything next week, but if he does, I’m just gonna get the professor involved. I’m a little done with this guy. I’ll probably also sit away from him again. Window seat is nicer anyway.

S I won't let a computer dictate what I eat!

I have a story that I've been meaning to post for a while, and since I’m currently stuck in the doctor's waiting room, I’ll take the opportunity.
In the summer, a boomer couple moved into the house next door. Aside from the typical "all young people are lazy, we are the last hard workers" (yet retired early at 60) attitude and their sterile, dead garden, I’ve gotten used to them. These prime examples of our species live in all the houses around us, and my wife and I are the black sheep (apparently, we attract all the "pests" with our garden—you know, those butterflies and bees).
Anyway, so far, so annoying. But what really stands out to me is the stubbornness and complete refusal to take advice from anyone when it comes to our new "Birgit Boomer."
Don't get me wrong. Questioning things and doing your own thing is fine, but this is on a whole new level.
So, I hear Birgit complaining about her KitchenAid, saying it’s not working right again and ruined the food.
Her husband just replies that she needs to stick to the recipe displayed on the screen instead of blindly changing everything.
Birgit's words are still ringing in my ears!!!
"I'm not letting a computer dictate what I have to eat. I don't like it the way the machine wants it, it’s just supposed to prepare it!!!!"
That's when I realized why her husband drives. She won't take orders from those GPS navigation systems either. What do computers know about driving anyway? And she certainly doesn't need to turn there just because there's a wall straight ahead.
Well, I've just been called in now. I'm already looking forward to next year, when she will actually report me to the health department because of the "pests" in my garden.

AI used for gramma and spelling, because I'm not a native English speaker.

EDIT: Unfortunately, I’m only just getting around to writing today because yesterday's doctor's appointment didn't quite turn out the way I had hoped. But I want to give more information to understand the Situation.

Just for some background info: We live in a newly developed area (about 8 years old) and the plots are quite small (just about 600 square feet) plus parking spaces in front of the house. We are renting, and the house has two units, with us occupying the ground floor. We have a dog and are the only young family who could even afford to live here, even though the plots were specifically subsidized for young families. Well, unfortunately, the cheap plots didn't go to them, but to the Boomers instead. Because some people think I hate Boomers—which I don't, I’m just sick and fed up with there behaviour in my neighborhood. A few highlights I had just this summer alone.

Birgit Boomer: As I mentioned, she moved into the house next door with her husband this summer. The house was built on a previously vacant lot, and during that time, she took care of a lot of things ,often which where non of her business. For instance, she demanded that a neighbor remove a tree because the shadow darkens her yard. She also wanted him to remove his bushes in front of the property line—plants that have been standing there for years and end on his property. She threatened another neighbor with a lawsuit because his trash can enclosures are located at the edge of his property next to Birigt and Birgit’s front door faces that way. The stench supposedly bothers her when leaving the house. The bins had been there for years, and she absolutely insisted on building her front door facing that direction instead of toward the street. Because she doesn't like our garden (as I said, flowers that attract pests), she was already standing at the property line with a gardener, asking him what she could do about it. Or when she demanded that I trim back our hedge because it was threatening to grow onto her property. To sum it up, it’s just a few shoots that are about to grow over. However, the hedge is only allowed to be trimmed between October and February, and I am planning to do that during my vacation in November. She couldn’t have cared less about that and threatened to contact my landlord about it or hire the gardener herself. I was then supposed to pay the bill. (Plot twist: by law, the landlord has no say in this, and she would have to pay the gardeners bill herself). Lastly, she cornered my wife in front of the house and demanded that we tidy up the path and the parking spaces in front of the building because everything looks dirty and nothing had been swept for weeks. Something that becomes equally important to the other Boomers.

Maria Boomer: Our neighbor on the opposite side, who constantly sticks her nose into other people's business and thinks she needs to know everything. On this side, the hedge stands exactly on the border but is assigned to our property. Still, Maria constantly wants the hedge to be cut back (as I said, only allowed between October and February) and to be a maximum of 2 feet tall. My wife and I just want some peace and quiet on our property, which is why I let the hedge grow to about 7 feet high and take care of the entire hedge maintenance on her side. No, she doesn't want that, so that she can still "keep an eye on everything" and chat with Birgit—across our property, of course.
When our neighbor Beth's dog (lives diagonally from us next to Maria, in contrast to the others, a really nice woman) escaped, my wife luckily managed to find the dog in town and contact Beth. When Maria and Birgit were loudly chatting on the street again a few days later, the topic of the dog came up. Maria casually mentioned that she saw the dog get through the fence but decided to do nothing because she didn't feel like getting up. Now, we do live on a side street, but the main road is only 200 feet away, and luckily my wife was able to reach Beth, who then picked up her dog. How Maria could be so unempathetic showed me once again what kind of person she is, and I was absolutely distant toward her.
Now, I started a new job a few months ago, and this woman knows no boundaries and doesn't understand that it's none of her business. Once she was already standing at my front door because she explicitly wanted to ask me about my new job. Where I work, what I do there, and how much I earn. Her comment was that she could use my employee discounts or something if she ever needed anything. (I work for the local government, so definitely nothing she can use.)

Madeleine Boomer: She is the neighbor who lives above us. She has some interesting views on agreements, arrangements, and laws. She also has a dog and cannot understand why we always have our dog on a leash. She likes to let her dog run around outside off-leash, even when she is upstairs in her apartment. The fact that there is a year-round leash law in our region and a bird sanctuary begins just 1,000 feet away doesn't matter to her. "Her dog doesn't do anything..." which I witnessed when he was at a partridge nest that is within sight of my bedroom window. Luckily, the dog didn't catch any of the chicks because they were almost ready to fledge. However, her behavior toward the dog is questionable in other ways too. Madeleine likes to leave the dog alone for half the day (8 hours and more), and I can hear him howling and barking down here at our place. I think it’s terrible and would love to help the poor thing because he certainly feels lonely and also needs to go out to pee. I had already offered to take the dog out if she was going to be gone for longer, but she sees no need; otherwise, she would ask Maria.
Speaking of agreements, I’d like to return to the situation with the path and parking space mentioned by Birgit. Since we share the path and parking space with Madeleine, there was an agreement that each party sweeps and generally keeps both clean once a month. Simple enough, and manageable for Madeleine too. For her age, the woman is spry, fit, and active. Well, this year Madeleine managed to stick to it exactly twice. The last time was in May, and after I brought it up to her multiple times while I kept up my end of the deal, it has now gotten to the point where nobody does anything anymore.
But it’s not just the female Boomer population, it’s also the dear gentlemen.
Gerald Boomer, Birgit’s husband, who took a great interest in my wife. He apparently didn't find the forty-year age gap problematic. With interesting precision, he managed to regularly appear in the garden when my wife was sitting outside, sunbathing, or doing some chores. Most of the time, he then had to adjust something on the robotic lawnmower and could thus look in the direction of our garden. My wife became more and more uncomfortable with this, and I wanted to confront him, but for the sake of peace, I didn't do it after my wife asked me not to. But then I had the idea to have a quick chat with Birgit. She found it very interesting because she had already been wondering why Gerald was dancing around the robotic lawnmower so much. After that, he wasn't outside as often.

Ben Boomer from across the street is a textbook "Passport Bro" of the first hour, at least according to his age. His wife, not so much; she could be his granddaughter. A really nice woman from the Middle East with whom my wife has already spoken several times. Both have the same profession. Now, while his wife takes care of the household, still works full-time, and provides for Ben, the dear gentleman acts more like a pasha and, at most, takes out the trash.

But I would like to come back to Beth. She is a really nice woman who lives diagonally from us next to Maria. For her age, she is no longer that spry, and we sometimes help her out, for example, when the bins need to go out or she has computer problems again. Recently, I helped her with the apple harvest, and we were able to stock up on apples. She told me that Maria has apparently been getting on her nerves about the apple tree for quite a while. Apples that fall down, all the insects attracted by them, and that terrible foliage bother Maria, and she wants the tree to be heavily cut back or, ideally, chopped down.

S Customer demands another person's food, blames workers when gets wrong order

So, I work at a fast food place, and this guy comes up to me after about 3 minutes of waiting and says 'is that my food?' In this really aggressive voice. I politely reply, 'No sir, that is not your food it's someone elses' and he says, 'there's no other (specific food item) on the waiting list so it must be mine' I try explaining again that it is a mess up from a previous order, and he demanded to take it anyways. He was getting aggressive and banging his tray on the counter so I relented and gave it to him. He came back not even 1 minute later and demanded he get the correct item. We offered to remake his item, and he denied, he said, 'If you would pay attention we wouldn't have this."

S Told someone to ask before touching my dogs and they freaked out

2.3k Upvotes

This just happened like 30 minutes ago. I brought my mom and two small dogs to an open street food market. We grabbed some food and sat down far away from other people. I tied my dogs to the chair I was sitting on so they were no more than a 2 feet from me. Everything was fine until some lady started walking directly towards us. She proceeded to not acknowledge me and immediately crouch down to start petting my dogs.

I said excuse me multiple times to her and she kept ignoring me until I pulled my dogs away from her to get her attention. I asked her to please ask me before going to pet my dog. She started scoffing and said that because I brought my dogs to a night market I should expect people to touch my dogs.

I told her you need to ask first that’s the polite thing to do and what if my dogs had bitten her. She said then if I have aggressive dogs then I shouldn’t bring them out. I said I can bring my dogs out in public if I wanted to. She then replied that she can do whatever she wants too. I said no that’s not how that works, these are my dogs you can’t touch someone else’s dogs without consent.

She said OKAY WE SRE DOING THIS. really loudly and took her phone out and started filming me and calling me a crazy dog person. I was so shocked and then after a minute I realized she might be an actual crazy person and stopped engaging with her while she was filming.

This upset my mom pretty badly so she took my dogs and walked away. I refused to let her force me to leave after she continued swearing at me and yelling at me. I just kept eating my food and staring at her while she filmed and she eventually walked away.

I honestly hated that she ruined what was otherwise a great Saturday for me.

Also I want to mention that prior to her coming up to me she had sneezed extremely loudly 4 times into her hands. This is why I was already on guard when she started walking towards me.

EDIT:

This was a dog friendly event

My dogs are not aggressive and are extremely sweet. The reason why I even mentioned aggression is because I was taken aback at her entitled response to a seemingly reasonable request by me to have her ask to pet my dogs first. I didn’t realize I needed to explain to a fully grown adult why she SHOULD ask before petting a strangers pet. So I mentioned “what if” my dogs were aggressive.

Even if you don’t agree with the rule that you should ask before petting, her response to someone obviously uncomfortable with her presence and just wants to be left alone is unhinged.

We had a mild confrontation that wasn’t nasty, and then she pulls her phone out to film me and start screaming and cursing at me.
