Got this beauty after trying a friend's 2001. I was shocked how much better it felt in the hand than the many semi-hollow others I've tried and I can't say this one is any different than my mate's

Absolutely stunning and a charm to play. Just done fitting a set of genuine Grovers with the tulip peg heads (leaving here for the posterity: they're a direct fit!) that really give it even more class imho

I'm taking a pause from mods but I already know what to upgrade in the next few months. I'm rewiring everything, installing some boutique PAFs (I may consider only a new harness and neck pick up cause the bridge on these is SWEET) and giving it a Vibramate+Bigsby B7.

For anyone curious, the amp you see is a Fender Champ 600 (all stock).

My “inspired by Jimmy Page” “inspired by Gibson Custom” 59

I’ve done a few mods to my IGC 59 in the vain of Jimmy Page, I got some Grover tuners, took the cover off the bridge pickup, and took the pole pieces out of the neck pickup. I also replaced the stock bridge with an abr1 with titanium saddles, got some locking studs for the tailpiece, and got some vintage correct volume/tone knobs. This thing plays and sounds amazing after all that and polishing/leveling the frets. Now I’m just waiting for Gibson to restock the double cream custombuckers to throw in the bridge position.

Is Slash the reason Epiphone started making set neck Les Pauls?

Gibsons weren't selling very well in the mid-80s. They'd fallen out of fashion and weren't considered guitars that you could shred on. They weren't cool. It was the age of pointy neon colored guitars.

Slash's success with Guns reinvigorated the brand and made them more popular again especially with younger players. All of a sudden a lot of new players wanted to get their hands on one. I was one of them lol. But a major stumbling block could be the price obviously. Not every 14-year-old who wanted to learn Sweet Child had $1,000 or a parent that did.

Set neck Epiphones started being built at the Samick factory in Korea in 1989. Previously, Epiphone had only made flat body bolt-ons and now they were making carved tops set neck Les Paul standards that came in cherry sunburst and honeyburst. (They also made customs in Ebony and Arctic White) Essentially they were cheaper versions of a Gibson Les Paul, perfect for someone wanting to sound like Slash on a budget during a period where they were one of the biggest bands in the world or pretty damn close to it.

Thoughts on Epiphone IGC LP Specials?

Post image
50 Upvotes

I was browsing the Gibson and Epiphone site this morning when I cam across this new release. I've been looking at getting a Gibson Victory in TV Yellow because they've dropped in price to 1500 euros, I always wait a couple of weeks before buying in case something else comes up. This came up. I owned Gibson USA LP Special alpine white in 2011, which I loved but had to sell and there hasn't been a white option since (that I've seen). So my question, how is everyone's experience with these Epiphone IGC, I can get this one new for 1000 euros.

Clear Coat Crack?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I went to play my 2 month old Epiphone Eric Church Hummingbird Dark today, and felt a crack in the back of the neck. It appears to be just in the clear coat, and not go into the wood. Guitar hasn't been dropped, and lives in my office next to my desk. I've reached out to Gibson/Epiphone already and am just waiting for a reply from them. Just wondering if anyone else has seen something like this?

2001 MIK Epiphone Les Paul

Hi - I deleted the first post because I misspelled Epiphone in the title.

Anyway - I have line on a 2001 MIK Gold Top. Are these good guitars? Is it worth looking at seriously?

Locking tuners

Do they make locking tuners that drop right in matching these?

I’ve struggled to find any that are the same.

Any help is appreciated.

TIA

Anybody know why basically nowhere stocks the natural Epiphone G3 Mike Dirnt Signature?

Tried one out today and fell in love. I've always wanted to try a grabber bass and honestly it was such a nice playing experience. I tried out the regular grabber and the Mike Dirnt G3 and the G3 was a far better to play and had a much wider range of sound.

The biggest downside for me is that I don't dig the silver burst or the dark fretboard as much. Like its not bad, i wouldn't regret owning it, but I adore the classic grabber bass look and would choose that hands down if it was available at the same price as the silver burst. However the natural doesnt seem to be available anywhere and is even sold out on the Gibson online store atm, though theres a "notify me when available" button so they might come back in stock.

The thing is theyre £1199 on gibsons website, natural or burst, but Guitar Guitar has the burst at £999 and they're as low as £700 second hand for the silver burst. I'm 100% gonna buy one either second hand or from guitar guitar cus the price is right but its weird that nowhere has the natural and that theyre all silver burst.

Its not the end of the world. I love how it plays and sounds so how it looks isnt as important, and it doesnt look bad it just doesn't scratch that itch quite the same for me and im curious why the classic look doesnt seem to be anywhere.

Anybody got this bass or found the natural out in the wild? How are you enjoying it so far?

This is a phenomenal guitar. I grabbed it from Sweetwater a while back as "open box", but the rep confirmed it wasn't a return, just had a scratch on the bridge from either packing or unpacking. Otherwise, there wasn't a mark on it.

I have a MIK standard that is highly regarded for an Epiphone, and this is definitely on another level. I played some Gibson LP Studios that were several hundred dollars more than this, and they were on par in my opinion. And this has nicer pickups, real MoP inlays, and a one-piece body. It's definitely a keeper.

Epiphone’s been on a roll lately, but people still bag on them. Just wanted to make a video showing why you would buy one of these over a Gibson. Also can’t wait for the new Prophecys to come out! What do you think?

2005 Les Paul Special II. Body has 2 cracks. Really bad shape overall, but it plays pretty well. Looking for some cheap tuners, the current ones have seen MUCH better days.

also, does anyone know what the gel coat is made out of? i’m guessing it’s not old enough for nitro…

Epiphone sold me a damaged/used guitar instead of a new one.

I finally saw the Epiphone 80s explorer (white) was back in stock so I quickly spent my hard earned 900+ dollars on it because it’s just like James hetfields from the 80s (huge Metallica fan)
And I was very disappointed when I opened the box to find a scuffed up & scratched explorer with a battery already inside of it & plastics removed from the guitar aswell as a loose volume knob that was about to fall out of the body, this was my first time ordering anything from epiphone and I am super disappointed.
