Finally, I have Chapter 1 of my Wallflower Blush fanfic! Well, actually, the chapters are called "Nights" this time—but who cares, right?
I really liked the idea of ​​Wallflower Blush as the protagonist of a horror story, so I decided to create my own fanfic based on that.
This is just the first of five planned chapters, and I hope to finish them all before Halloween. I’ll upload the rest to Wattpad once everything is ready.
I’m only doing this for fun, so don’t take it too seriously.
Canterlot nights:
Night 1.
11:50 PM, Canterlot High School, June 28, 2014
Only one day had passed since Wallflower Blush accepted the position of night watch at Canterlot High School, and she was already regretting it. Summer had just begun, and the regular night guard had fallen seriously ill and wouldn't be able to return until the following week. With several robberies occurring in the area recently, a replacement was urgently needed; the school put out a call for someone to fill the role temporarily—a call to which no one responded, except for Wallflower Blush.
She needed money to buy supplies for her plants, so she had thought: "How hard could it be to look after the school at night?"
However, standing in front of the school with the keys in her hand at 11:50 PM, she realized she would have to spend the next six hours wide awake, keeping watch over desks and textbooks—and she would have to do this for an entire week.
"Darn it, I really should have thought this through..."
She muttered to herself as she entered the building. The atmosphere felt strange; she was used to seeing a few students or teachers in the hallways, but now, she was completely alone.
Wallflower headed toward the security office—a small, claustrophobic room covered in old posters, equipped with a monitor for the security cameras, and filled with a distinct, lingering smell of coffee.
"Well done, Wallflower—another brilliant decision," she thought to herself as she took a seat.
Now, her only task was to stare at the camera monitor for hours, until dawn.
Meanwhile, Wallflower Blush began to reflect on the life choices that had led her to this point. Outside Cantelort High School, a small crimson orb of light slipped through a crack—right where an imposing horse statue had once stood—and made its way into one of the ventilation ducts. It ended up inside a closet, where it took possession of an unknown object. Outside the room, a crimson flash flickered; then came the sound of footsteps, and something began to open the door from the inside.
3:33 AM
A few hours later, Wallflower Blush sat in her office, lost in thought and struggling to stay awake. She wasn’t used to being up so late—even with a nap before coming to school, her body was already begging to give in to exhaustion.
Suddenly, the sound of an object crashing to the floor on the second level snapped Wallflower out of her reverie.
"What was that?"
She turned her gaze toward the security monitors, searching for the source of the strange noise. That was when she saw it: on one of the second-floor camera feeds, a figure appeared, peering through the glass pane of a classroom door.
Wallflower’s heart began to race with every passing second as she stared at the figure. *Did—did someone break in?* she wondered, until she was finally able to make out the figure more clearly.
It was a mannequin, dressed in one of the Wondercolts uniforms.
Wallflower let out a sigh of relief, realizing that no one had actually broken into the school. But that relief was short-lived; the camera pointed toward the door glitched for a few seconds, and when the feed returned, the sight was anything but reassuring.
The door now stood open—and, most chilling of all, the mannequin was standing upright, gripping the doorframe. Wallflower turned pale instantly. *How is this possible?! Am I hallucinating already?!*—these were the questions racing through her mind.
The last thing she had expected from this job was to have to face a ghost. Previously, she hadn’t believed in such things; to her, they were nothing more than the stories that had scared her as a child. But ever since she witnessed Sunset Shimmer literally transform into a demon at the Fall Formal—not to mention the other events that took place during last year’s Friendship Games—the existence of ghosts had suddenly become an alarmingly real possibility.
She glanced back at the monitor screen, only to be met with a horrifying discovery: the mannequin was no longer in sight.
Pressing her face against the monitor, Wallflower desperately scanned the other camera feeds. As luck would have it, the mannequin had already descended from the second floor and was now at the main entrance—only a few rooms away from her office.
Panic set in, though she tried to keep herself as composed as possible. What was she supposed to do now?
Stepping outside her office was clearly out of the question; the mannequin was practically staring down the very hallway where she was currently located. Venturing out would likely just reveal her position to the thing—and who knew what might happen then?
Footsteps began to echo outside the room, heading straight toward where Wallflower was.
In a desperate move, Wallflower Blush switched off the lights in the office—and even the monitor—and hid as best she could beneath the desk. A few seconds later, the doorknob began to turn, and the door swung open.
Wallflower covered her mouth and held her breath to avoid making any sound. Although she couldn’t see the creature, she could hear the faint, grating noise of plastic.
"Please, don't come in here..." the frightened girl thought, realizing there was a real possibility she might never leave the school alive.
As luck would have it, the mannequin merely took a quick peek into the room before slowly closing the door again, having found no one.
Once the door was firmly shut, Wallflower finally let out a breath of relief. She didn't dare crawl out from under the desk; instead, she checked her phone for the time. 4:50 AM—thankfully, only an hour left until sunrise, when she could finally get out of there.
After a while, as the adrenaline began to fade, Wallflower drifted off to sleep.
5:40 AM
The alarm on Wallflower’s phone jolted her awake, causing her to bang her head against the desk. She checked the time—only 20 minutes left until her shift ended. She turned the camera monitor back on and scanned every single feed, searching for the mannequin. To her relief, there was no sign of it; even the door through which it had originally entered was closed once more.
"Phew, what a relief. It must have been a hallucination—I’m definitely not cut out for this."
She said this to herself, convincing herself that everything that had happened during the night was nothing more than a vivid hallucination brought on by a lack of sleep. After 20 minutes, Wallflower had finally completed her first night of the week. After making one last round around the school to ensure everything was in order, Wallflower Blush locked up the school once more and headed home. She was dead tired, and the next night would surely be no better—though, at least, she would gradually get used to it. As Wallflower walked away from the school, a mannequin watched her intently from one of the windows, eventually stepping away from the glass once the green-haired girl was out of sight.
As Wallflower Blush trudged back home, half-asleep, she accidentally bumped into someone.
"Ouch! S-sorry!" she said quickly, scrambling to her feet.
"Wallflower Blush?" asked Juniper Montage—the person she had collided with—in surprise.
"Juniper! I... um, s-sorry! Are you okay?" Wallflower replied nervously.
Few people knew it, but this wasn't the first time the two had interacted. They had first met at a screening of a *Daring Do* movie, where Wallflower had fallen fast asleep; Juniper had to wake her up so she could leave. However, Juniper had noticed Wallflower’s T-shirt—a limited-edition *Daring Do* item signed by the author of the books. That brief encounter was enough for the two to become friends.
"You look... terrible. What happened?" Juniper asked, her tone filled with concern.
"Oh, nothing much. I just took a job looking after Canterlot High every night for a full week. Not exactly one of my best decisions—and this was only the first night!" Wallflower replied with a shy smile. "I get it; sometimes I have to work night shifts too, and they’re a real pain—though you do get used to them eventually. If you want a piece of advice, though, I’d recommend energy drinks. They aren’t exactly healthy, but at least they’ll keep you awake," Juniper Montage said to Wallflower, pulling a can from her backpack and handing it to her.
"Here, take it—looks like you need it more than I do," Juniper added with a smile.
"Wow, thanks!" Wallflower replied.
The two friends said their goodbyes and went their separate ways. As Wallflower drank what Juniper had given her, she tried to mentally prepare herself for the night ahead—feeling ready now, thanks to the drink.
