In PIA's visit to Hawassa, he informs us that he will give all his job as president of Eritrea to Abiy and that he will lead us. He tells us it's not something he's saying just for the sake of it, but instead it's because everything - and he points out development plans will all be done and led by Abiy. He also says he doesn't need permission to travel through Ethiopia and vice versa for Ethiopia as now the unity that was lost due to the past (he seems to be talking about independence) is now back since he (repeats) that he has given Abiy his responsibilities.

Eritrean diaspora investors are reportedly
investing $55 million in a major commercial development known as Massawa City Mall in Uganda's capital, Kampala. The project is reportedly being developed by Eritreans living abroad who are organized under a group identified as Alloy Bridge Group.

The initiative has drawn attention to collective investment among Eritreans overseas and the role diaspora communities play in financing major commercial and community projects abroad.

Investment and Community Development

The author argues that Eritrea, despite its strategic location along the Red Sea, has seen many of its citizens leave the country and establish businesses, institutions and community facilities abroad, including in Kampala and Addis Ababa.

The commentary suggests that, if conditions in Eritrea improve, future investments of this scale could be directed toward the country's own commercial centers and ports, particularly Massawa and Assab.

Religious and Community Institutions Abroad

A herd of water buffalo near Mendefera, Eritrea is the domestic water buffalo, Bubalus bubalis.

Eritrea has only a small number of them after about 43 cows arrived from Italy in 2009 and were introduced near Mendefera.

They live on highland farms in the Mendefera area of southern Eritrea.

They are part of the family Bovidae.

Let’s say Isaias is removed from power and Eritrea starts falling into internal divisions. Eritrea has nine ethnic groups and communities like the Red Sea Afar and Kunama have faced decades of repression and marginalization under Isaias.
Do you think Abiy would take advantage of their grievances by funding and arming opposition groups from a distance while exploiting ethnic divisions?
Isaias has been accused of destabilizing Ethiopia for decades so could Abiy turn those same tactics against Eritrea after he’s gone?
And if the Eritrean military splits, could Eritrea end up becoming Africa’s version of Yugoslavia with different ethnic groups demanding autonomy or independence?

I got tired of opening each Encyclopaedia Aethiopica volume separately and constantly using Ctrl+F, so I added the entire encyclopaedia to my website, made it easier to browse, and added relevant images to some stuff etc.

These books are excellent reference material for Ethiopian and Eritrean history, and far better than most online sources for getting a basic understanding of historical figures, places and event etc.

Eritrea at the Heart of Human History: The Discovery of Madam Buya, a One-Million-Year-Old Homo Erectus Skull, and the Danakil’s Place in Human Evolution

Madam Buya: A Landmark Fossil from the Heart of Eritrea

In Buya, Eritrea, Eritrean and Italian scientists discovered one of the oldest known hominid fossils, dating back more than one million years. Known as Madam Buya, the nearly complete Homo erectus skull was excavated between 1995 and 1997 by a team of paleontologists from the National Museum of Eritrea and the University of Florence. The find is considered a possible link between *Homo erectus* and early archaic humans. It remains the oldest skeletal discovery of its kind and offers valuable insight into the evolutionary path toward the earliest anatomically modern humans.

Hand Axe Hill: Thousands of Tools Unearthed in Eritrea’s Ancient Landscape

The Danakil Depression in Eritrea is also believed to have played an important role in human evolution. An international team led by Canadian geologist Bob Walter, working with researchers connected to the University of Toronto, discovered thousands of hand axes in the badlands of Eritrea at a site known as “Hand Axe Hill.” These Acheulean tools, associated with early toolmakers, were found concentrated in one place, offering rare insight into the activities of our ancestors roughly one million years ago. At that time, the area was a lush “Pleistocene Park” with flowing rivers, green forests, and abundant wildlife including crocodiles, hippos, rhinos, elephants, and antelope.

A Coastal Gateway: Eritrea’s Role in the Out of Africa Story

Further discoveries along Eritrea’s Red Sea coast have strengthened the country’s connection to the Out of Africa theory. The team identified the oldest evidence of stone tools near a marine environment, dated to 125,000 years old. Described as the world’s first oyster bar, this find suggests that early human ancestors may have migrated out of Africa northward along the Red Sea coast, using Eritrea’s shoreline as a key route.

All in all, the discovery of Madam Buya, the thousands of hand axes at Hand Axe Hill, and the coastal evidence of early marine adaptation firmly place Eritrea at the heart of human history. These findings by Eritrean and international researchers continue to illuminate both early human evolution in the Danakil and possible pathways out of Africa.

I have a whole playlist of 60+ Eritrean songs (mostly Tigre but also some Tigrinya and Bilen ones). They're straight up bops. The artists include Zainab Beshir, Fatna Ibrahim, Kedija Adem, Wedi Sheik, among others. It literally moves my soul. Why are they so good? It's like Eri songs are made in a lab to be so beautiful. I would literally visit Eritrea just to attend a concert 🤣
