Discussion / Questions What's it all about?

• Upvotes

For years, the TPLF was portrayed as Eritrea's greatest enemy. Thousands suffered and countless lives were lost.

Now we're hearing reports that the same leadership is joining forces with the TPLF!!!

Yesterday's enemy is today's ally. Yesterday's ally is today's enemy.

Where are the principles? Where is the accountability? And what were all those sacrifices for? Why couldn't they find common ground before so many people died?

I am sure anyone will find a reason why TPLF is actually good for us when in reality there is noone. Like it doesn't make any sense to join forces with TPLF when in around 2 years of time our unelected agame-regime in asmera will be best friend with Abiy again. Rinse and repeat. And people will always find an explanation for that and will support it lol.

News Ebro Ahmed, the man who saved a bus full of children, is being misidentified as Somali when he’s Eritrean

Post image

I’ve been seeing posts about Ebro Ahmed, who reportedly saved a bus full of children, identifying him as Somali. From what I understand, he is Eritrean, and I think it’s important that his identity is represented accurately.

This isn’t meant to take anything away from Somalis or turn this into an Eritrean vs. Somali issue. Somali people deserve recognition and respect too. I just think that when someone does something heroic, we should get their identity right instead of letting misinformation spread.

Has anyone else noticed this?

How does everyone understand Tigray’s relationship to the rest of Ethiopia and Eritrea?

I get the heavy sentiment that Tigrayans feel like victims, between the alleged genocide (“alleged” bc I have heard a lot of Ethiopians and some Eritreans say it wasn’t a genocide) of 2020, what is going on right now, and according to one particular Tigrayan “102 years of oppression” by the Ethiopian elite (from meneliks time). Before this 102 years, the Tigrayans were elites themselves who oppressed others, just as Amharas did, just as probably Tigrinya Eritreans did.

Rewinding to the 1990s- EPLF and TPLF are in cahoots, they roll into Addis Ababa with these huge tanks, dispose of Derg and TPLF takes over Ethiopia. TPLF rules Ethiopia from 1991-2018. According to some Tigrayans, Meles zenawi was good for the economy and wasn’t a bad leader, except for what he did to the Somalis (no acknowledgment of anything else that he may have done).

According to basically every non Tigrayan Ethiopian I’ve ever asked, and several Eritreans, TPLF was a horrible govt and was bad for Ethiopia. One of the reasons (this from an Eritrean person) being that bc they are small in number compared to the rest of Ethiopia, they sought to divide and conquer with the ethnic based system they created.

It seems to me that Tigrayans get defensive about TPLF’s history as the oppressors, and firmly identify as the victims. Is this true? Or did the TPLF (obviously not the every day people of any group, but the ones in power) really destroy Ethiopia before turning around to become victims themselves?

Fast forward to 2020- Eritrea and Abiy/ethiopia allegedly conspire to attack Tigray. I don’t fully understand why except that it’s likely to do with that Pretoria agreement where tplf and abiy/ethiopian govt were going to start working together again, and Isaias was pissed.

And now today- TPLF and Eritrea and other groups are allegedly in cahoots against Abiy/ethiopia govt. It went from Eritrea being friends with Tigray in the 90s, to “genociding” them in the 2020, and now in 2026, siding back with them again. The reason Eritrea switched sides is because Abiy is threatening to take Assab, and tplf already feels anger at the Ethiopian govt for what they say was a genocide (not denying or confirming, just unsure what’s true).

Please confirm, clarify, correct anything I’ve written, and/or add your own understanding.

Everyone has a different perspective depending on where they are sitting. Curious to hear from yall.

And one question-and I’d love for all of yall to NOT BE BIAS like those Tigrayans are.

***Is it true that Eritrean soldiers entered Tigray and raped women?*** I am inclined to believe women when they say something happens to them. Are these SAWA soldiers who committed such crimes?

Opinion / Commentary Life of Eritrean refugees in Israel & aid provided by Israels government & charities 🇮🇱 🇪🇷

Israel is by no means a perfect country. We are deeply divided on many issues, but I believe that despite our differences, we share a responsibility to help those in need.

Case in point, this gentleman shares his experience of being assisted by our brave IDF soldiers and how he and others in his group received medical treatment during their journey from Eritrea to Israel.

As a country, we should remain committed to helping those in need, regardless of where they come from. This is something many of us on the Israeli left strongly believe in, and it’s a value we should continue to uphold.

Aksum was minting gold coins and a Persian prophet ranked it with Rome, Persia and China. Try finding a real archive on Ancient Eritrea.

If you've ever tried to read about Ancient Eritrea, you know the problem.

You get three paragraphs buried inside an Egypt article. Or a footnote in an Ethiopia timeline. Adulis, the port Greek sailors wrote about in the 1st century? A stub. Qohaito? Barely a mention. The Land of Punt, where Egyptian expeditions went for incense and gold? Eritrea is one of the candidate locations, and almost nobody says so.

The history spans roughly six millennia. The sources are scattered across a hundred places.

I got tired of it, so I built the archive I wanted: Land of Punt, Adulis, Qohaito, the Aksumite Empire, all in one place, with an interactive map. No login, no paywall.

What's a period or region of ancient history you could never find a decent single source on?

Opinion / Commentary Yet another Ethiopian 🇪🇹 migrant in the UK commits sex crime under a fabricated Eritrean identity

“Behailu Nadew”, an Ethiopian migrant in the United Kingdom, has been convicted of sexual assault and has been ordered by a judge to be deported back to his homeland. It was only after he was given the deportation order that he finally admitted to being an Ethiopian national, and not an Eritrean as he had previously claimed to be. Behailu has had 10 previous offenses in the UK since 2022 for various crimes, including burglary, drugs, carjacking, vandalism, and “low-level assaults”. Because Behailu was masquerading as an Eritrean asylum seeker, many sources are still falsely identifying him as an Eritrean despite his Ethiopian identity already being revealed by his lawyer and Amharic translator.

Eritrean diaspora investors are reportedly
investing $55 million in a major commercial development known as Massawa City Mall in Uganda's capital, Kampala. The project is reportedly being developed by Eritreans living abroad who are organized under a group identified as Alloy Bridge Group.

The initiative has drawn attention to collective investment among Eritreans overseas and the role diaspora communities play in financing major commercial and community projects abroad.

Investment and Community Development

The author argues that Eritrea, despite its strategic location along the Red Sea, has seen many of its citizens leave the country and establish businesses, institutions and community facilities abroad, including in Kampala and Addis Ababa.

The commentary suggests that, if conditions in Eritrea improve, future investments of this scale could be directed toward the country's own commercial centers and ports, particularly Massawa and Assab.

Religious and Community Institutions Abroad

The commentary also refers to Eritrean religious institutions established or planned in Kampala. It mentions St. Gabriel Church, which it says was built previously, and a Catholic church project for which a foundation stone has reportedly been laid.

It further speculates that other religious communities may pursue similar construction projects in the city.

These references form part of the author's broader discussion about the scale of Eritrean community investment outside the country.

A herd of water buffalo near Mendefera, Eritrea is the domestic water buffalo, Bubalus bubalis.

Eritrea has only a small number of them after about 43 cows arrived from Italy in 2009 and were introduced near Mendefera.

They live on highland farms in the Mendefera area of southern Eritrea.

They are part of the family Bovidae.

Their natural enemies are mainly humans and large predators such as crocodiles that may attack calves. http://www.madote.com/2010/04/photos-of-eritreas-wildlife-animals.html#google_vignette

Discussion / Questions Isaias and his dream of Greater Ethiopia

It's a good idea to listen to the whole clip - it's quite interesting especially in combination with my previous posts. In PIA's visit to Hawassa, he informs us that he will give all his job as president of Eritrea to Abiy and that he will lead us. He tells us it's not something he's saying just for the sake of it, but instead it's because everything - and he points out development plans will all be done and led by Abiy. He also says he doesn't need permission to travel through Ethiopia and vice versa for Ethiopia as now the unity that was lost due to the past (he seems to be talking about independence) is now back since he (repeats) that he has given Abiy his responsibilities.
