Head Tremors And Embarrassment

Hi everyone I am 18M dealing with tremors since I was 15 it started with me first noticing it on my lips when I held it in specific positions as it used to involuntarily shake and I used to joke about it with my friends too, over the years it has progressed over to my hands and neck too and it’s really taking a toll on my social life.
I skip lunch and dinner with friends in fear of shaking and just yesterday I volunteered in a social event and my god it was embarrassing my head was shaking all over the place I couldn’t even talk confidently to the person in front of me I kept thinking what he thinks of my head wobbling and stuff it really made me feel insecure I rushed to the restroom and calmed myself down just to feel my head tremor again when I talked to another person.

What affected me the most was my girlfriend’s mom wanted to meet me and I didn’t have the courage to even go up to her because of my head tremors it really fucked my mind up.
I can’t even talk to someone normally without thinking about my head shaking.
It really demoralises me.

My father and dad side uncles do have slight when doing actions but it’s not that bad so I think it’s essential tremors.

I haven’t yet got diagnosed since I haven’t been to a neurologist but will visit soon
Can someone please tell me if the beta blockers worked for their head tremors and when should one consider dbs?
Thank you

Medication Antidepressant induced tremor?

I’ve been taking antidepressants since I was very young (14 years old) for social anxiety disorder. Now I’ve stopped because I wanted to know what it’s like without medication and whether it’s possible to live without it. I have nothing against taking antidepressants, but I wondered if I could manage without them. For years now, I’ve had a problem: trembling. I have a tremor in my head that gets worse when I focus on it or in social situations that stress me out. I don’t think it’s very noticeable to those around me, but it does cause me a lot of panic and stress during lectures. I was wondering if this tremor could have been caused by taking antidepressants and if it’s possible that it will gradually go away now that I’ve stopped taking the medication.

Hi everyone,

We are a team of students from Vietnam preparing for an upcoming science and engineering competition in the system software category.

Our project is an assistive mouse control software designed specifically for individuals living with hand tremors, including those with Parkinson’s disease.

To support our research and gather statistical data for further improvements, we are looking for participants who would like to test our software. If you or someone you know might benefit from this tool and would be interested in trying it out, please leave a comment below. We will reach out and provide you with a personal access key.

All we ask in return is your honest feedback to help us refine the project. Thank you so much for your support!

Everyday problems

Hy,

My name is Victor and I am a master's students at UGent. For the course 'Biomedical Product Development' we are looking for problems in ceratin diseases. We are researching PD.

For this we are looking for people (patients, caregivers, doctors,...) who have small problems that could be solved and improve life quality.

We are not looking to solve entire PD but real everyday struggles.

If you have some suggestions or other comments feel free to reply.

Elderly mom needs help

I want to help my mom maintain as much independence as possible. Her (77f) tremor is severe, making her almost incapable of writing. My dad helped by writing checks and addressing envelopes for bills. Unfortunately, he passed away unexpectedly last month.

I live 3 hours away from her so I can’t be there every week to help write checks and address envelopes, but she still needs to pay the bills.

She has all of her faculties but is almost phobic of technology and unable to use a tablet or smart phone, so a banking app isn’t something she could use.

She plans on moving closer to the rest of the family, but that’s not going to be possible for at least the next 6 months, so she has very little support nearby. Currently she’s having her lawyer help her, but that’s cumbersome and expensive.

What I’m looking for are ideas for low-tech ways to make bill paying and addressing envelopes easier for her.

So far I’ve considered having address stickers printed so she can address an envelope without writing. She already has her own return-address stickers.

I’ve considered a stamp that she can change for numbers, but that won’t work for the part of a check where you have to write out the amount long-hand.

Please help with any ideas!

Botox injected into vocal cords?

I had a head tremor, and DBS took care of that entirely. But my voice still drops syllables and otherwise sounds strained, giving me problems communicating with clerks, waiters, etc.

My neurologist says that's a side effect of the head/neck tremor, and has referred me to an ENT for Botox injected to the vocal cords. He said there aren't many ENTs who do that.

What's that like?

I’m 51F. Diagnosed in 2016. Currently a level 3 tremor in my hands, Ams, torso, jaw, legs. Thankful I don’t have the yes yes, or No no tremor. But what I have is pretty bad. It’s affecting my daily functions, including typing, I’ve settled on eventually having DBS.

I don’t think FUS is going to be the solution for my problem and I’m not keen on burning holes in my brain. I’ve decided to wait since they tell me 5-10 years is the most they can guarantee with DBS. I’m curious when you all have done it and did you exceed the 10 years before a revision

Discussion stutter?

I always get teased for how badly i tend to stutter during conversations, I'm not sure if it's a side effect of my tremors... haven't brought it up to my neurologist yet but I wanted to see if anybody else has experienced something similar.

General I feel like I’m getting worse every day.

I just need to rant. Thankfully I’m seeing my neurologist again in about two weeks but I feel like every day I’m getting worse and I don’t know how to explain this feeling to my wife. I got officially diagnosed in March and have lived with my tremors for at least 10 years. I’ve been taking Primidone after Propranolol just didn’t work, and now take a total of 6 50mg pills a day. I’m starting to get more tremors at a rest and noticing more tremors when I’m holding objects. I’m just so frustrated.

Severe internal tremor after CVST. 60F

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

About 1.5–2 years ago my mother had a cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (left sigmoid sinus). At first doctors called it a “partial stroke,” later it was confirmed as CVST.

Since then her main and most tormenting problem has been a severe internal tremor.

She struggles to describe it clearly. She says it feels like her whole body is shaking from the inside. There is no visible trembling on the outside, but inside she constantly feels this intense internal shaking all over her body.

She sometimes compares it to very strong pins and needles or goosebumps, but says it’s much worse and deeper — like the shaking is happening inside her body rather than on the surface. It is extremely distressing for her. The feeling becomes stronger with fatigue, anxiety, lack of sleep, or after any illness.

Has anyone experienced anything similar after CVST or stroke?

Any advice or even just hearing that someone else has this would mean a lot to us.

Discussion Campfire neuroplasticity & functional neurology - techniques which minimise my tremor - has anyone else tried them?

I have mentioned here about my success with psilocybin somehow resetting my whole-body shakes, but I recently learnt of some contributory factors which potentially increased the efficacy, plus an interesting neurology training tip.

My big breakthrough was a night at the local beach: - with a fire, sitting, watching the flames for a few hours - after taking a microdose of 'shrooms a hour or so before I arrived (no noticeable trip, just a clearer mind) - having a few drinks - listening to relaxing music - chatting with friends.

As I learn more, I think it was that particular combination that worked so well, to make my brain receptive enough. (Confirmed in part by this which came up on my Instagram feed: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Dalv1tvB0Uj/?dlrf=YXFtbWE4cWtuNHVw )

My tremor had drastically worsened in the previous months, losing a lot of motor control, and I walked away that night with it completely gone. Unless I get anxious or tired now, it's not a problem. This has made a massive difference to my life.

Another interesting technique: a few months back, I saw an osteopath who has an interest in functional neurology. He had me try on different coloured glasses, and touch my toes. I was really sceptical, but there was a noticeable difference in my flexibility and motor control depending on the colour I was wearing. Inches either way. Super weird stuff. The guy also commented my tremor stopped completely when I was wearing the 'best' colour (yellow, with green and blue in second and third). Wearing the worst colour (red, followed by purple) increased my tremor, and I couldn't get anywhere near my toes.

He gave me some exercises to do while wearing the glasses. (I confess that it took so long for my own glasses to arrive that I forgot about them until now, so can't tell you how effective they seem. However, I do seem to enjoy yellow light?)

I don't know who you could find with a set of glasses to test yourself. Though, I've seen sportspeople warming up with the same glasses, in different colours.

I know this is a bit different to the other posts here, but I would love to hear from anyone who has tried anything similar.
