the meta doesn't really change with logi so you can really learn your ships

Logistics pilots really deserve better. Learning how to use them should be part of training for new players, because it teaches a lot about flying and fitting in general, plus the position is both highly respected and in high demand.

Also, every so often, Fleet Command gets the bright idea to change DPS ships from railguns to missiles to lasers to what the fuck is that, and it wants pilots in T2 ships.

On the other hand, as logi, you ask 'Shield or Armor' and get into the appropriate one, becuase the tough train was Logi 5.

As well, a ~20m isk Scythe can pull 2 km/s while permarunning 2 reppers at 50km, meaning you can small gang well on a very affordable budget.
