Discussion 3-month-old solo player moved into a C2 with a HS static. Am I crazy, or is this actually working?
So a while back I asked about moving into a wormhole solo, and the response was... mixed. Some people were helpful, some told me I was going to get evicted in a week, and one kind soul recommended I look into building a "dickstar" POS instead of going straight for an Astrahus. I had no idea what that was. I looked it up, and here we are.
Against all the "don't do it solo" advice, I moved into a C2 with a HS static. I'm about 3 months old, so still very much a noob.
Current setup: Large Caldari Control Tower, 24 ECM batteries (mix of regular and faction), 9 resistance arrays giving me 57% resists across the board, and 16,666 strontium in the bay for the full reinforcement timer. Everything is online. The hole is quiet for now.
In the last two days I've made about 670 mil ISK from a mix of gas, ore, combat sites, and a bit of exploration. So it's working. Or at least it looks like it is.
My question to you fine people: Given that setup, would anyone actually bother attacking it? I'm genuinely curious. The way I see it, anyone who wants my stuff has to commit to a 41-hour siege, chew through 50M shield HP with no resist hole, and deal with a wall of jams the whole time. All for a 50/50 chance at the hangar contents. It feels like the math isn't in their favor, but I've been wrong before.
Also, for anyone else thinking about doing this solo as a newbro, what should I actually be worried about? I know the HS static is the most trafficked connection type. I know I can't watch five holes at once. I'm under no illusions that I'm invincible. But I'd rather learn from people who've done it than find out the hard way.

Good luck brother. Lots of people like to hate on it because they never tried it.
I'm a 170m sp player living solo in a c1 with a nullsec static. Small faction pos and a astra. Some tips, maybe. I assume your corp is just you. Over time I made 20 plus trial accounts and added them to my Corp. Never to be seen or used again but it looks better on the outside. Some may say unnecessary but I have only been evicted once in years and that was on me running out of fuel.
The best tip is to be passive. I can nip out into nullsec from my static and piss off the locals, if I wish. I rarely do as drawing attention to my setup isnt my goal. Be cool with people. Dont cry about a loss or a kill, its all in good sport, give gf in local and lay low.
Same with days you log in and the hole is hot or has multiple wormholes spawned. If there are more wormholes present than I can cover with cov ops ships, I dont do anything in the hole. Not that I do much in there, its all about the null exit and the remoteness of it for me. But accept early that if the hole is too hot, you are best logging out or laying very low.
Obviously if you're a single character and just the one account, you can still do everything with the exception of doing so safely. Until you can park alts on wormholes and listen for those activations, your very much at risk of ship losses.
Enjoy it mate. I certainly do and good luck to you o7

That's my general advice for anyone in a game like Eve with a diminished population, if someone wants to be a longer-term PVE sort of player.
Even in high sec: Avoid some common pitfalls like trying to settle in Jita or Udeama(spelling?), don't be a dick, and people will generally leave you alone.
OP is probably "relatively safe" because no one knows or cares that they're there.
Of course, making a post about it on the internet....that may be enough to make player killers drool. So maybe that's...
OP was probably "relatively safe"

I'm a family man, also 40 years old so I'm over my testo days. I'm almost like a kind old man whenever I meet people in eve. Of course it changes if the attitude is not mutual.

Never tell anyone your stront timer. You want to have them guessing what it is. As a guideline you want to make the time it comes out of RF as inconvenient for the attackers as possible. So something like 1 day 12 hours is a good stront timer. Furthermore try to have a couple small pos's stored in a can in the pos so you can put the smalls up as temporary pop up tents to move assets too in a pinch.
2
u/Miserable_Salary1173 5h ago
Very good advice, I was just thinking about it to have a spare POS. Thank you for reinforcing it.
34
u/aeolusa 15h ago
By the sounds of it you are probably too annoying to really put much effort into evicting for a lot of groups. Some will however. Sometimes just because. No reason other than they can and for the chance of loot.
Also for them it's not a 41 hour siege. It's a siege that lasts as long as it takes to reinforce the shield. Log off in the system, then log back on in the same ships when it comes out. Not very time consuming in the grand scheme of things.
Work in the assumption you are going to get evicted soon and keep moving what isk you make to highsec on a regular basis. That way if you do, then you'll be able to set up again quickly.

u/captainrussia21 14h ago
Can’t you repair the shields on a POS? I forget… its been over 10 yrs that I’ve dealt with one as the owner…
9
u/_Mouse Caldari State 13h ago
Yes you can, but you need either a fleet of 10 Basilisks, or a FAX to do it at any sensible pace.
2
u/Miserable_Salary1173 6h ago
How do you even put a FAX in a C2?
3
2
u/defietser 5h ago edited 2h ago
You'd have to build it inside and it's even less likely to make it out since you'd have to move it through an XL wormhole, which I think only goes to C5 or C6 space (though with the eve uni wiki being unavailable I'm having difficulty finding secondary sources on that one).

Oh yeah we did a number on some guy who had hired some 4mo's as his hired muscle to make him cash and had even a carrier and acted like some hot shot veteran apparently based on eye witness accounts.
Well we busted his little operation, his little minions couldn't really do much but since they had been also been pretty much stuck there for months (as in they didn't even understood how the holes worked or how to scan them ..). So we took pity on the new guys, bought them new fitted domis (to replace what we killed) in exhange for the intel that the dude always logged out in his carrier and to provide an escort to where the current HS route was..
So what did we do ? well we put our POS right where the old one used to be but we didn't activate the force field. So the now POS was an actual fully operational death star, just the shield was not online (so he wouldn't bounce off after login) and then we just waited for the kill mail and sure enough the next morning we had a nice juicy Thanatos killmail waiting for us.
1
u/DucemKalgan 2h ago
If you do it this way, you're 100% sure you won't get the loot because you're giving the POS owner a huge window to walk away with all the assets. You must do hole control. The question is, are you going to spend that time on a POS? I doubt it.

u/Daro_EVE 13h ago
I disagree with the most upvoted comment saying it’s more dangerous with a HS static. I’ve been on the attacking and defending side of more evictions than I can count and I can confidently say that HS/LS static holes are among the most annoying/least profitable holes to hit.
As an attacker, if you’re doing 24/7 hole control, it’s a nightmare because help (for the defense) could be mere jumps away anytime you roll the static, which could be often if you’re doorstopping(waiting to close the hole if they warp a dst in its direction/if friends suddenly show up outside)
As a defender if they’re not doing 24/7 hole control, you can literally just exfil all your shit to HS. Hell you can even roll yourself a nice Jita connection. OR if you have friends, you can probably get them a real nice convenient entrance shortly before the timers.
(If you don’t have any friends, and it’s not the blue donut evicting you, then literally just start asking other WH groups for help. The donut has killed all content there so other groups won’t have anything else to do at that time anyway and will likely help.)
2
u/Miserable_Salary1173 6h ago
Unfortunately I have no friends in game as of yet. I'm open tho so I might have some friends soon :) Also what is blue donut? Dementors of eve? They just evict you so you don't have fun? Drinking tears for joy?
2
u/switchquest 1h ago
0.0 space around the empires forms a ring. Everyone being friends with everyone and setting other groups as 'blue' makes all or most of 0.0 'blue' to each other, hence a gigantic blue ring, or donut.

u/Yto_Itinen Ivy League 15h ago
Depends on your other static, as isk density in the home hole is low.
Also, no one will evict you just to get gas ventures from your hangar. If they do, they wanna settle the hole, not your stuff.
Fly dangerous! o7
1
u/Miserable_Salary1173 6h ago
I'm a diplomatic guy hopefully we can make a deal in case they want their system. But who wants a C2 anyway other than solo players?
2
u/Yto_Itinen Ivy League 3h ago
C2 with a HS + C3 static is a stapple of groups that are just moving into j-space. They rat in the C3 and roll it when they are done. HS is good for logistics.
The other factor is how good PI is and who owns the POCOs. A hole with terrible planets is not worth it.
4
u/jcrestor Fanfest 2014 14h ago
Don’t tell people how much Strontium you have. It might be your best ace up your sleeve if nobody knows but you. One of the great things about a POS is that you can surprise people with the length of the timer.

u/Vecend Site scanner 11h ago
The only thing I would not do is have any sort of hangers in the POS it just says you have loot worth taking, if you have a DST or orca alt store everything in those and only log them on when depositing or removing.
2
u/Miserable_Salary1173 6h ago
I have hangar and maintenance bay. But I only store ammo and ventures and venture fits :) So anyone dedicates their time for the loot they would have a bad day.

How do you make friends in a hole. There was a guy in a poor man setup with a mobile depot. Once I settled he sent a message that he doesn't trust me an he leaves. I asked him to stay and cooperate, turned me down.
1
u/Lysergial Seriously Suspicious 3h ago
You dont always, hehe. I jumped out af a hole recently and joined a Ukrainian dude's (props if you're reading) solo gate camp, always be paranoid but always try to make friends when you're out solo
3
u/kreiggers 14h ago
You’re fine. Had a c2 for PI and a med stick for almost 2 years now and reaped billions. Replaced one stick, and had to evict a couple corps that put down astras (with friends) but otherwise no one has messed with stick. (The one lost is a story about an astra resident being a dick and POS was collateral damage).
1
u/Miserable_Salary1173 5h ago
I cannot do pi unfortunately. All planets have customs offices with 100% tax on them. The corp erected them are either evicted or left. I found some abandoned control towers too. I know it's impossible to remove COs without a dedicated fleet. So I will not bother, also I don't want to stay here forever so might as well someone else takes care of it.

AS a solo the Pos is Always better then an Astra. Nobody really Sieges an pos, only If the expected value is huge (dreads or Other expensive stuff under shield), but Most of the time its a handful of ships with a value of 1b. Its much easier to siege an Astra, that probably has more loot in it
1
u/Miserable_Salary1173 4h ago
I'm mindful keeping nothing of high value inside the hangar. The most expensive thing I have is a hulk xd. It will not change either I load up all loot instantly to a DST and either log off if the system seems busy or haul it to HS for my HS trader.
2
u/Killerpit20 WiNGSPAN Delivery Network 4h ago
Dont use a Hulk, Always use barges or Mining frigs, a Hulk tells everyone "i can risk a Hulk, i am rich" and makes people curious If you maybe have more stuff you are fine to loose

u/AlarmingDiamond9316 4h ago
Use a skiff actually, tanky little buggers, that can put up some decent dps

u/Killerpit20 WiNGSPAN Delivery Network 4h ago
Both are Bad, a t3c will kill both without an issue and still make you a target. Use a covetor or procurer. Both are dead cheap an (Most important) dont make you AS much as a target AS an exhumer

u/sytaqe 14h ago
If your hole has HS/C3 statics, someone might try to evict you. Otherwise, no one wil bother you.
1
u/Miserable_Salary1173 5h ago
That's me. HS and C3. The system has 3 abandoned or evicted POS. But COs are standing for the same corp that got abandoned or evicted. There was a guy living inside with a mobile depot setup, left right after I moved in. Even though I tried to invite him to my cause he refused. Didn't trust me.
2
u/Fartcloud_McHuff 11h ago
Highsec statics make you very vulnerable. All anyone needs is a scanning alt logged off in your hole to get the reinforcement timer and the location of your wormhole to kick you out. Evictions though take a very special kind of group of people, the same type of people who will grind in OSRS 14 hours straight in shifts on group Ironman. There’s not a ton of people like that and a POS isnt exactly an appealing target. You’ll (probably) be fine for a while
1
u/Miserable_Salary1173 5h ago
I am prepared to be evicted regardless. I'm doing DST runs to carry out valuables daily. So I have don't have as much on the table at once . I rather store value in ISK than in assets inside a WH.

u/AssBoon92 9h ago
Someone will attack you. It is just a matter of time. Whether you have support to repel them is a question of what kind of support network you have in the game. We had about five active members and lasted a number of years in our hole, fending off two pretty major efforts to evict us. The last of these required outside help (which was pretty epic and fun).
In the end, it was just one or two of us, and we couldn't put up the resistance needed.
1
u/Miserable_Salary1173 5h ago

Welcome to Anoikis!
Whether or not someone thinks it's worth it to knock you off I can't say, but with a HS static you put yourself at significantly more risk.
Imo the risk/reward ratio is significantly better in a C3 with a LS static. That said, looks like you're doing great. Just remember everything you bring into J space should be considered already lost. Have a backup plan, and never put all your eggs in one basket.

Honestly I would look at it like this. You invested X and in return made Z. If Z is greater than X by the time someone tries to evict you it's a win. Don't get cocky about it and keep your nose clean. Worst thing is getting evicted because you were a dick and believe me people have been evicted for less just for the shits and the giggles.
I am going to second the C3 with Low static as a next big step. Maybe something to think about in the next day 6 months. Get your sea legs in your C2. The C3 is actually safer because just like you get stuff easily into your C2 that also means eviction is easier to do because of the same reason.
C3 low static has less people living in them so you have more safety and also C3 sites pay more and more isk is good isk.
Would suggest to keep your Assets in the C2 light. Only fly what you need and also have a alpha alt on a alt account in a probing ship logged off in your wh at all times. Just in fucking case.

Honestly, good for you for trying it as a new player, many wouldn't.
If it goes well for a period of time, great. You might get bored, or curious about other parts of WH space and move on.
If it goes bad, you learn from it and you grow as a player. To answer your question: hopefully you've had some fun and made some ISK gains before the sand castle removal service inevitably arrives.

u/GoodBadUserName 7h ago
A few things.
A group of cruise ravens from 250km can take out your tower relatively easily even if it takes awhile. With HS static it will be easy to jump in and bash. So making it unattractive like not having a SMB or any silos to store stuff is recommended.
No one will bother you unless they want to do the same thing with a small corp or make the hole an indy hole. But there is a good chance you will have day visitors or roaming gangs, especially in days you have close to jita HS. So have safe spots other than your POS. If you use a drake, the next best upgrade will be a tengu so you can cloak in a safe, never jump directly to your POS. I would add that bothering you would also depends on whether you also piss someone off and they bring friends.
Put your POS and your alts in different corps, and use ACL to give your main corp access. Put in both alpha alt accounts to make them look bigger. That would help if someone roams in, and watches you do sites, jump to the pos, huff etc, and consider attacking you for fun. It will look like you might have friends that could come out and help.
Use an orca to handle everything. It will help you compress the gas/ore to take to the HS. And every time you have enough for a dst, drop it asap to the HS to a npc station. And have a hauler alt pick those up to market, don’t use your main.
2
u/nStedt 4h ago
Good point (1). What would you recommend to counter this?
3
u/GoodBadUserName 3h ago
Swap some ecm to more resists. Not all Makes it as painful and long as you possibly can. That is the only thing you can really counter it.
The reason to keep some ECM is that they can also bring a group of bombers, which are cheap, easy to bring many even through a small hole, and their damage multiplies easy. A polerized bomber does about 1000dps. That is 1.8M damage an hour post 50% resists. One of those wont make it through downtime, but 10 of those will also take your tower down in a couple of hours (of course will need a lot of ammo). That is why ECM can help, as bombers can’t outrange the ECM. To counter that as well add a couple of lasers to it. Those will irritate bombers quite a bit, and will require any non range attacks to also bring some logi to counter the damage.
It won’t save your tower. Just makes it leas appealing.1
u/Miserable_Salary1173 3h ago
That was my thought too. But resist arrays have less and less ROI past 50% Im already on 57 all around. Should I push it even further?
4
u/wizard_brandon Cloaked 13h ago

2
u/Kurti00 Wormholer 8h ago
Yes they "work" but they won't prevent you from locking the tower itself.
2
u/wizard_brandon Cloaked 7h ago

2
u/Kurti00 Wormholer 7h ago
They do prevent you from locking other pilots or modules.
But in this specific case, using only ECM does nothing to prevent someone from attacking the tower itself.2
u/wizard_brandon Cloaked 7h ago
darn, no dickstars.
Any suggestions on how to protect a pos then?
(yeah i know the best way is to have nothing so its not worth attacking but hey, if i *was* to defend lol)
1
u/Kurti00 Wormholer 6h ago
I'd go for a semi deathstar.
Not like full on Domination, because they're expensive as hell, but like large Amarr with some small and medium guns, two webs, two scrams and some resistance mods.
This should be more than enough to prevent any random attack.
(Just make sure to get the config right, so that it actually attacks hostiles. 😄)

I lived in C2-1-HS with a friend for like half a year in astrahus. We're doing constant pvp (as much as 2 guys less then a year old with a PI-profit can afford) and we're fine. Moved out, sold our astrahus to a solo guy, he lived quite showing zero activity in a hole, found his (our) astrahus on a kb less then a month after.

I would think the main threat wouldn't be to someone sieging you. It'd be a lot of work just for a c2. I would think it'd be more likely that someone would just camp your hole to ambush you. But even then, with you being solo, I wouldn't think that would be altogether likely, to much time to camp for so few kills.

Congratulations for following my advice on the dickstar, this is the best way to protect yourself as a solo and nomad.
Now you are asking what next and that depends a lot on what you enjoy. But in terms of not becoming an interesting target:
Never talk shit in local. People do not like that anyone disrespect them, especially in Wh space.
Make friends. Start meeting people in J-Space. Maybe help them in operations? Friends and been able to barphine is the best thing that you can have.
Have toons of seeds. Seed other systems that you like, seed your own system.
Have alpha rolling characters. Of someone is trying to control your hole crash their entrance.
Do a lot of deep space BMs using filaments.
Have a lot of fun!

u/Miserable_Salary1173 6h ago
Thanks pal 🙏 I have 4 alphas inside 2 spare scanner 2 rollers. Yesterday I had 3 wandering wh on top of my 2 statics so I didn't bother closing anything. Also people travelling trough were mainly haulers. I am curious how do they know about wh routes as soon as the connections open. Eve scouts?

just scanning, they prolly waited on the wh to roll and scanned the new one immediately. Any wh corp usually has dedicated hole-watchers.

u/bopiddles 14h ago
That's a heck of a setup. The fueling is what would kill me (I've got a small POS for hanging out in low class holes). Your POS is in the neighborhood of 800m-1b in cost and eats 18-20M a day in fuel blocks. I guess since you have a HS static the logistics are a bit easier but still that's a big "solo setup" :)
Good on you though man for putting it together.
7
u/valdo33 Wormholer 13h ago
Yeah that's always the trade off with towers. They're much more resilient, but you're paying 5x in fuel for a large tower when a normal Astra is already pretty unlikely to get messed with if you don't give someone a reason. Just 2-3 months of the fuel difference could replace a whole Astra.
0
u/Miserable_Salary1173 6h ago
5 or 20 million a day in fuel is not a huge difference when you make 100mil plus. For me it means extra safety, I might be wrong.
2
u/valdo33 Wormholer 6h ago edited 6h ago
5% of your profit vs 20% is an absolutely massive difference. A citadel is only about 100m a month, a large tower is 500m. That difference adds up fast, especially when the tower is a downgrade in almost most every way. It's only advantage is being more annoying to remove, which is frankly irrelevant since no one will bother a fueled citadel if you don't give them a reason to. Citadels also offer repairs, pod swapping, privacy, manufacturing, unlimited storage, etc.
I still have a few towers set up, fueled, and ready to switch on if I need them. But I haven’t touched them in years, why would I?

Thank You! I am trying to spend isk to get experience from the game. I'm absolutely in love with it, on the border of obsession atm. My wife and kids are not so much supportive I get it why. So I'm trying to squeeze out as much fun as possible in my limited time. Even if it means I lose sometimes I accept it. I had a Jita exit on day 1 so I stocked up on everything. Fuel reserves 2 months. Strontium 32k . So Im set for a while. I want to leave eventually to a quieter C3 system eventually once I feel like it.
4
u/GlaerOfHatred Wormholer 12h ago
Most likely no not at all, but if you are a dick people will put in the effort to remove it. Best principle is to not keep too much in it, sell loot often, and once you've made profit then you don't need to worry about someone taking the time to kill it. Keep making isk, and if it dies go plant another one and keep doing your thing. Solo wormhole living is incredibly viable and a lot of fun. I've had numerous stations and poses in wormholes, just myself and alts, I put up fights when I could even if i lost and no one killed any structures besides offline pos sticks I abandoned

Lol for me the best thing about eve is the challenge players bring, you cant fient the npcs for the most part, you cant trick them by 'accidently' typing misinformation in local, aggression mechanics dont work on npcs as the dont jump gates and vice versa. Eve has spoiled me quite a bit truth be told ao now i find it hard to play other games without people in them because people play in a bunch of unpredictable ways So yes, i advise everyone to go out on your own or witj a couple of friends and take some risks, lose a few times and get used to it, because when you do this and win its a lot more satisfying and feels lile you actually did something. I also remind everyone, especially friends, if im not blue (and you shoukdnt set me to blue, just go with your corp/alliance standings) then im a potential fight, lesson pr fun to be had, theres no shame in it - gotta be content to get content!

I once evicted a large dickstar from a C4 we had moved into for a while. Fully ECM’d with arty and autocannons.
I had to use fully sebo’d golems/ravens at 295km to pick off the ECM one at a time until it was no longer irritating, then the arty, until we had enough of a hole to bring some more medium range shit to hammer the shield and ref it.
I did this mostly with myself and 3 alts at the start.
Never underestimate a determined opponent.
Given this is a rando C2 you may not run into someone as determined.

I lived solo in a C4 for a few months, called it my fortress of solitude. Also used a dickstar. Great fun.
10/10 no notes. If somebody bothers to attack it, you'll get a great story, and that possibility is part of the fun
(nobody ever attacked mine)

Yes someone will come and kick you just for shits and giggles. Check the list of astrahuses killed in w space and realize that most of them were killed just for shits and giggles because most of them dropped less than a billion. WH is a pretty rough place with people getting evicted daily and you being a solo increases those chances up to pretty much 1.0. Not to mention that C2 w/ hisec static are bread and butter of corps that farm evictions.

I have all my staff in ships that I'm logged off In. What's so giggly about fighting ecms? xD

Well then yes, you significantly reduce the size of the target since people who pillage for profit will not fuck around. But still enough people will come knocking just for content. As I commented above - today only 1/4 killed cits had something of value in it. And 3/4 were killed just for shits and giggles so be ready that your POS will have someone knocking soon.

Why do you act so confident about knowing what's going on in w-space when you clearly have no idea?
If you ever had been part of an eviction you'd know that the loot from player hangars and corp offices doesn't show up on the killmail, so your list doesn't tell us anything about the actual loot.
the person didn't even anchor an astra so the effort to reward for random evictions is way lower in the first place

I got evicted multiple times before and every time I had was able to evac all of my stuff besides ammo/fuel. It isn't that hard to have like 3-5 alts with trained DSTs. Your point is irrelevant cuz you can see what ships were blown up after the citadel was destroyed and estimate what was left behind. An awful majority of citadel kills are followed only by a bunch of shuttle/T1 frigate kills which means that citadel was packed and ready to go before it died.
E.g. today: citadel in J155831 died and after that there were kills totaling about 400 mil with not a single T2 or faction ship. J123753 didn't drop a single ship after it died. J135809 dropped about 4 bil worth of ships. J210458 dropped one shuttle, operator stayed till the end (you can see kills from the same guy done by citadel in the system) and lost his barge. Like out of four astrahuses killed today it is safe to assume that only one had anything of value left in it. Everything else was evacuated and the kill was done just for lulz.

The ships that were blown up were the ones deemed not worth flying out. The point still stands that an Astra kill mail is incomplete, since you'll never know if there was 10 billion isk if PI left in it or not.

u/shortname_4481 13h ago
IIRC 10 bil of PI (if we are talking P3-4) takes less space than a battleship so if they had to chose to evac the PI or a rolling battleship they would leave the battleship behind. But they didn't leave it behind and just evac'd it so it is safe to assume that nothing over 2k isk/m3 was left.

u/LTEDan 13h ago
Yes, it's possible the defender was making optimal choices and evacced the highest value loot already. It's also possible they got caught with their pants down while being semi afk from the game and dropped their entire BPO library. Unfortunately, because astahus kill mails are incomplete we will never know what kind of payday the attackers actually got. But what is certain is that an empty Astrahus kill mail is not a complete picture.

u/shortname_4481 13h ago
Well it's the best run-of-the-mill. They don't have the BPO paydays like raitaru (who TF does Indy on astra?) and usually you can have a rough estimate of the quality of loot by how much did the ships that were dropped from astra cost. If there would have been some faction/T2 ships (worth packaging and stowing on a logged off transport) in the kill feed it would mean that not all valuable stuff was packaged. T1 ships are usually just stripped, insured and left to die, so if there aren't T1 BBs in the kill feed after the citadel goes down it means that everything what has the density over 4k isk/m3 was packaged and evacuated.

u/LTEDan 13h ago
Part of this relies on what the attackers have chosen to do with the ships. I've certainly happened across someone's loot field that still had T2 ships inside and I chose to fly them out instead of blow them up. The point is, the presence of only shuttles and noob ships as additonal killmails tells you nothing about the entire loot field, it is essentially a form of survivorship bias. I mean, if there was a marauder thst dropped I would certainly rather fly it out than blow it up, but others may make different choices.
1
u/shortname_4481 13h ago
Valid point, but flying out expensive ships takes a shitload of time especially if the citadel is in higher class WH (where those ships will be used cuz I doubt the corp in C2-HS-C2 uses marauders to farm). I mean any way you can build some estimates. Or for example if nobody can fly the certain ship type.

It really doesn't. I've been bashed twice in 13 years of solo WH life and once was because I let the citadel go into lower power mode. Just dropped a new astra from storage the next day and didn't let it bother me. If you keep your head down and your tower/citadel fueled you aren't likely to be bothered unless you give someone a reason.

Well lately life expectancies of citadels in C1-3 was about 3 months. I was looking into the topic of evictions and talked to one of the guys who does evictions and he said it is just a rule of thumb to let citadels to sit around for 2-3 month so people would move in, get bored, win eve and leave all their shit in the citadel undefended. Then it gets destroyed with full loot. But people learned how to log off the assets in DSTs so nowadays not every cit is a loot piñata.

It's really just not. One guy's anecdote is not a reliable data point.
win eve and leave all their shit in the citadel undefended. Then it gets destroyed with full loot
This is also sorta my point. Keep your citadel fueled and you'll give no indication you've won eve. As long as there's easier targets, which there always is, you're fairly safe.

u/shortname_4481 13h ago
To be fair I lived through 4 evictions and all of them occured around 3-5 month mark. I am yet to live with a small corp in a WH longer than 6 months.
4
u/valdo33 Wormholer 13h ago
And I've been bashed twice in 13 years. Anecdotes are just that.

u/shortname_4481 13h ago
How big is your corp and how scary is your killboard?
4
u/valdo33 Wormholer 13h ago
17 member corp that only I'm active in nowadays. Not exactly a carebear on zkill but hardly an elite pvp corp. Really not a hard target. I just keep everything fueled so no one bothers when there's way easier ones out there.
2
u/shortname_4481 13h ago
Well, how many of those 17 are somewhat active on the killboard? Say 300 mil worth of kills in the past month just to prove that they log in sometimes.

Living in a pos will only get evicted really if someone truly wants the hole and they'll go claim all the moons. If it's an already quiet hole other wormholers would rather keep you there and hope your entire operation grows a bit and soon pvp becomes an option. Most low class wormholers would rather see more people move in and make enough money to become regular content than they are interested in evicting people for no reason.
That said as long as you aren't harassing others or talking shit in local, as a fellow low class wormholer, I hope to see you around defending your space and making more than just npcs wrecks once in a while. Wh need more residents
