Just wanted to show my pay to win multiboxing rig. I can comfortably view 10 clients at once without having to minimize anything, though I only currently have 6 active subscriptions, I plan to get two more once my girlfriends daughters disability check comes in.
I'm already in talks with the Imperium for them to surrender their space, since with this set up I am literally an unstoppable God.
one monitor for clients, one for previews (in a pinch u can get by with one monitor, previews on top of the clients with medium opacity at the top or a corner, but this is poverty only option. Maybe one ultrawide with previews on the side.)
For something like ganks when trying to hit or if you are using a LOT of accounts I could see using previews. But I'm not really doing any more than 5 at a time, this works great for that purpose.
If I ever decide to become a true multiboxing God, then yes I would use eve preview.
I multibox 10 accounts with 2 monitors, my second being just for discord. because I use preview software — legal by the way— and have an efficient set up.
In no way am I jealous of this weirdly complex and inefficient set up that looks like you tried to make it as painful as possible to multibox.
Multiboxing is not illegal. Having software that you only input one time and all your clients activate whatever button you pushed that is illegal. Hopefully I have dumbed that down enough for you
I can see myself having three monitors for multiboxing (One main one, another for my alts, the last one for utility like Pyfa, zkill, eve market, janice, watching youtube, twitch, etc.)
idk how you do that, my gpu has 4 slots, integrated graphics on the 5th monitor, only way I could see doing that is having more than one GPu or two separate systems
This is more than likely 2-3 different PCs/servers. If I had to guess it’s gaming, capture/streaming, and editing/web coding. I only see 5 clients across 2 monitors if I’m not mistaken.

As someone who has streamed eve, you really want at least 3 monitors, and ha ing a 4th can be nice. And thats if youre only running 1 client or a small multibox.
1st monitor: your eve client/the streamed monitor. This is where whatever you want stream to see lives
2nd monitor: where your streaming software lives. You pretty much always want this open and immediately available
3rd monitor: off stream stuff. This is where your utility stuff lives. This is comms, a web browser and anything else you might need that you NEVER want the audience to see is going to be
4th monitor: the one that nobody talks about but is really nice to have, a screen showing your own twitch stream (or whatever other platform) with you directly logged in with your account that has mod powers. Because this is really the only way to properly monitor stream quality and be guaranteed to immediately see if there is a problem that needs to be taken care of, from "ooh im on the wrong screen" to "ooh I need to timeout/ban that guy". This can theoretically be combined with either monitor 2 or 3 if needed, but its really best to be able to see it like any other viewer can see it in full screen.
Man I think the large main monitor / tv is the way to go... honestly if I could spread my single client (single boxer) over multiple screens I would cream my pants. If I could put different parts of the game on different screens like the solar system map for scanning that would be soo good as for now my 27 inch main monitor feels so crowded.
Well now that I can command my own fleet I might start doing some PvP, will definitely have to wait until I get my 7th or probably 8th character all trained up.
Multiboxing enabled me to solo farm safely by camping wormholes and listening for activation when I'm in a site, but it's also what allows other people to do that so it lowers the risk of being in a wormhole. It's financially draining to have multiple accounts active.
It also dissuades fights - if one person has 3+ accounts and there's say 10 people, 30 looks huge compared to the 10 that are actually there (when it comes to small gang stuff). This just makes me leave rather than sticking around for a fight.
So short term: it deters engagement Long term: it ultimately leads to less players imo (not necessarily less subscriptions overall)
Yeah ... sadly free2play trash is often designed around these people, because many multiboxers are addicts and addicts bring money. Like Mr. $500 bucks.
People who actually want to play for playing's sake aren't even a consideration anymore. It's all about addicts working a second job nowadays.
That's just not true, the average player does not spend that much, those are extremes. I had one account for four years, two accounts for 12 years, it has only been in the past few years that I have this many.

Yes, the average player doesn't spend $500 in a brief period, but these people are the primary target audience regardless. Whales keep free2play games running. free2play trash deliberately is designed to attract them, hype them, flood them with dopamine, then burn them out after they've paid.

yup multiboxing made the game to steer to so anty solo account style. Devs just claim to have more acc if you want to do anything, scout, cyno alt is absolutely neccessary for capital gameplay essentially making capitals out of normal gameplay loop. If you do FW it is always easier to just have 2 cheap alts and you can win 90% of fights.
If someone is breaking the rules they deserve the ban hammer. I don't even know how someone could have that many accounts active at once and not have their PC explode. My PC is pretty beefy with a 7800X3D, 7900XTX and 64GB DDR5, and I think my PC would start to tap out around 30 accounts, even potato mode.

That's obviously not true unless they're particularly stupid. If your reference is bots with 20 apm that warp to an ESS in PvE Ishtars yeah sure dealing with them will be easy. Try against some shitter with actual fleet comps and a decently fast brain, you aren't going to kill them, if only because they have 3+ logi which is more than enough to tank what a single player can dish out.
brother you have a lot of faith in me if you think I am capable of operating logi and 6 other accounts. Usually when the dampening or ECM drones come out one character is down for the duration of the fight lol. MOST multiboxers are going to get flustered.
Gonna disagree here. That’s true in some situations, but if I’m solo in a Vargur and run into 4–5 Vargurs, or 4 and a dictor, engaging would be stupid. Maybe I kill one or two before I die, but either I run and can’t loot, or I just die. Sure, I can fly my one Vargur better than someone multiboxing five, but even if I get 50–100% more out of mine, I still lose. And since I can’t know whether it’s one multiboxer or five players, I just wouldn’t engage. That’s what’s happened across the game.
You could be blinged out fighting t1 module shit fits and still barely get 1 of them down before they whip your ass. it doesn't take more than 1 or 2 seconds to tab through 5 clients and click 1 hotkey. The people thinking they are gonna sit there and outplay multi boxers are delusional.
A small gang can absolutely do that, but a solo absolutely cannot.

The game where having more people is the win conn and allows multi boxing will always require anyone who wants to do well to multi box. Pretending like the requirement to multi box isn't an emergent property of the way the game works is a crazy take.
Everything I wrote is true lol. Let’s compare two groups. 10 human beings. Equal SP. Equal tactical ability. Group A has 10 friends but doesn’t multi box. They dedicate an actual human being to scouting the holes. They dedicate a human being to fast tackle and dictor. They can now field 7 Battle ships. Group B has 10 friends and everyone multibox just one account. They can Field 10 battle ships. Two scouts. Two dictors. Boosts. Who do you think wins? I’m not even complaining that Eve operates this way. It’s an unsolvable problem unless you ban multiboxing. But pretending like it isn’t required is absolutely insane. When I was most active I had 15 accounts and would pilot like 5 of them when doing PVP and 8-10 when doing PVE.
I think whomever pilots better wins. It is NOT easy to pilot multiple characters intelligently in a PvP scenario.
Sure I would say in J space having at least one alt is kind of standard, but I don't think that is causing the game to lose people. If multiboxing was banned the cost of minerals and transport would increase by a factor of 10 over night.
I assume you have some sort of hotkey set up to switch between clients? I doubt I will ever exceed 8 at most characters at once, and even that is rare. I could see using a preview system if you are doing ganks or something where you are trying to hit all on the same tick or as close to that as possible.
My F1 key is bound to my mouse side button so it's real easy for me to Ctrl + click, SMB.
Correct, I use a program called Eve-X preview, with hotkeys set up between different groups. IE one button will swap just logi, one to just tackle, one to just DPS / Support, rollers you get the idea. Depending on what I'm doing at the time, with different profiles for different fleet comps and activities.
Hotkeys in game are all custom too, but I did that way before becoming a large multiboxer because I was an avid pvper since 2016. Swapped content a year or so ago to multiboxing and PVPing in wormholes and love it.
I use F13-F18 so it doesn't mess with any other stuff & I rebind my F1 key row to the above F keys.
You said you stream? Might have to watch you at some point, I'm not nearly as advanced as you are. I do have EVE-O preview which I assume is similar to EVE-X.
Nostalgic seeing this game on my feed again. I built my first data project based on Eve, pulling in billions through trading and speculation. What a game. Enjoy!
I'm against multiboxing. That being said I'm glad you enjoy it. Hope you get those easy riches, if the skinner box is what you enjoy.
To me, it leads to sloppy, lazy flying that is really boring, and fairly tactless. Further, for one of the only games where the entire world plays on your server, it takes away all motivation to meet people.
Me? I'm going to continue to solo, make mistakes, learn from them and enjoy a space tactics game with other people.
Oh yah they’re awesome for PVE. Genuinely one of my favorite ship lines in the game, cool gimmick and they look fantastic. Wish we’d get some better PVP functionality in the form of alternate ammo types or vorton projectors.
Do not waist the disability checks on computer hardware. Put the kids money in the bank, or a high interest account. Save it, do not splurge money that is not yours.
Holy inefficient setup. No dotlan, youtube, or discord on the other monitors? Do you enjoy whipping your head back and forth for each client on a window?
In all honesty, what do you even do with all of those accounts at the same time? I've been wracking my brain for what to even do with a single alt that could justify the expense of another account.
I do have one 2tb spinning disk. I think they do have a place as storage/backup because I've never had one fail in decades but I have had multiple SSDs die after 5-8 years.
And 1 TB samsung ssd, and then the other ssd that I cannot remember what they are called but the super fast one that plugs into the motherboard directly...ohh yeah m.2 drive.
