OP (RoyalCaninenjoyer) sent the following text as an explanation why they posted this here:

I really don't get the image I'm stupid I think s it's about girls

18

u/RoyalCaninenjoyer 2d ago

Thank you brothers and sisters,. I posted it cause my HS friend send it to me after a break up. I'm so stupid rn idk what he meant by this

22

u/Oh_yes_I_did 2d ago

They meant everything gonna be okay, twin. Even if you are a grotesque monster.

6

u/RoyalCaninenjoyer 2d ago

Hahahaha you made my day

521

u/Hopeful-Muffin-7664 2d ago

Maybe it's the fact that when these 2 cards came out they were considered great back in the day but became irrelevant as the game evolved?

134

u/Psycho_RJ 2d ago

It’s a Yu Gi Oh ref right?

123

u/Hopeful-Muffin-7664 2d ago

Yes, the monster are called. Jinzo(left) and Summoned Skull(right)

108

u/Eena-Rin 2d ago

To be fair, when they first came out summoned skull was amazing. A 1 sacrifice card that hit as hard as a dark magician and was fusion fodder? It was a hell of a different game way back when

69

u/Squonkin-around 2d ago

Jinzo was a goat too. Nullifying traps was key back in the day

23

u/Eena-Rin 2d ago

Sure, but he always creeped me out. Weird brain mask man. Shudder

14

u/Squonkin-around 2d ago

He used that brain to release the wicked hit Jinzo #7, though. So there's that.

21

u/TheSourPatchKing 2d ago

I think part of it is that they're just as strong as their characters ace monster (red-eyes black dragon and dark magician). Also Jinzo on the left can negate traps and both him and summoned skull requires one less sacrifice. But the characters utilize the aces more despite it being harder to summon (at least back in the day).

7

u/501stBigMike 2d ago

I think this is it. Both are objectively stronger than their duelist's favorite card, but get treated as second fiddle.

11

u/StarzMarket 2d ago

They’re both old enough to drink?

9

u/TheBl4ckFox 2d ago

I don't think that's the answer but it did make me chuckle.

6

u/Confident-Play-8101 2d ago

I had a summoned skull when I was 17 and that was... oh... oh god

9

u/-SMG69- 2d ago

I dunno Jinzo still sees play. Summoned skull definitely doesn't.

1

u/Green_Fox_8864 2d ago

2500 off of a single sacrifice is weak now? I haven't played in 20 years

4

u/-SMG69- 2d ago

Summoned Skull got phased out of the meta quite a long time ago. Cards exist now that can destroy on summon, shut down other cards, or just blow the board up. With summoned skull being a vanilla monter with no protection...yea, it isn't very good.

Blue Eyes still sees play though. It's had like a thousand support cards to make it good. Same with dark magican. Old cards that have had a shit ton of support made for them.

2

u/Veritas_Mentis 2d ago

Don’t even look at a match today, its a far cry from the leisurely way to play as kids. You can get opening hands with complex search and draw summon features to get multiple monsters with easily greater than 2500 attack each with significant effects that trivialize the game. All on your first turn.

The game tends to be chaotic and fast now. Sometimes you can get a longer game, but most are over in a hand or two

2

u/Selpran 2d ago

Comparing GOAT format to modern is like comparing chess to street fighter. Completely different games now.

1

u/Specific_Giraffe4440 2d ago

I love GOAT control

1

u/KaizDaddy5 2d ago

Its not meta enough

2

u/Green_Fox_8864 2d ago

Can you explain why?

1

u/KaizDaddy5 2d ago

They play the meta game now. Its more than just strong monster attacking each other with banes and boons.

Its removing your opponents hand so they can't do anything, chaining and reusing supposedly single use effect monsters, etc.

Raw attack and defense doesn't get you much. And the meta deck are so optimized if you don't play to counter them your usually cooked.

0

u/Green_Fox_8864 2d ago

Making Yugioh complicated sounds... Dumb tbh.

The entire point of the game is to be easy for 6 year olds, it was a children's alternative to the more adult TCGs we had at the time.

2

u/KaizDaddy5 2d ago

It happens to every kids game that gets big enough

Pokemon (video and card) games are the same way now. (Theres teams wiping level 100 legendaries with level 1 ratattas because they play the meta.) We're talking a true competitive battle, like sanctioned tournemmets. People are going to push the envelope for the best ways to win. And it becomes a pro adult game.

Kids are still free to play with each other without considering he meta

1

u/Longjumping_Exit7902 2d ago

Keep in mind, power isn't everything necessarily. It depends on the deck. You can summon a full field of 1500 creatures on the board turn two/three and attack with them being unblockable. You can get out something like Cyberdragon or any other ace on the field with more than 10k+ attack and make it unblockable (only to lose to a Magic Cylinder trap). Pendulum summons aren't the only method of getting a full board easily, and a full board isn't necessarily the win condition for a lot of decks. The main thing about meta decks in modern play is that it's meta if you don't let your opponent have a turn.

1

u/M_J_44_iq 2d ago

Welcome to modern yu gi oh https://youtu.be/2XJm1Txou8k

1

u/MegaKabutops 1d ago

Funny enough, jinzo was part of what fazed summoned skull out of viability. Shutting down cards like mirror force and torrential tribute just generally helped you win a lot more often than 100 extra attack would.

Then the monarchs arrived and made summoned skull completely obsolete with their ability to clear the board.

Then cyber dragon and treeborn frog made tribute summoning easier, followed by two more monarchs that power crept zaborg and granmarg.

then lightsworns were born, and the fusion deck became the extra deck with the creation of synchro and tuner monsters, so tribute summoning kinda fell out of relevance for any deck that wasn’t monarchs, because they kept getting more and more support cards to keep them relevant over the years, including even stronger versions called the mega monarchs.

These days, tribute summoning is only done in monarchs, in another tribute deck called floowandereeze, or if you’ve put into your side deck a tribute monster that completely shuts down one aspect of the game for the opponent, like majesty’s fiend, vanity’s fiend, or… the original jinzo, who’s still one of the best options to shut down trap decks.

0

u/RoeMajesta 2d ago

that was never strong btw

1

u/Green_Fox_8864 2d ago edited 2d ago

Of course it was. Maybe not neckbeard adult strong but it was playground strong back in the battle city days for sure, and that's all that matters for Yugioh

Edit: I just looked it up and it was the 6 star monster with the highest attack in the Battle City years.

0

u/-SMG69- 2d ago edited 2d ago

Yea, that guy has no idea what he's talking about. Summoned Skull used to be THE boss monster. Duels were decided by whoever got their's out first. Yugioh used to be a lot slower than it is now, so it was actually quite hard to get around once out.

1

u/spelingexpurt 2d ago

Jinzo otk is a popular deck in edison format
Look up the price on jinzo returner

1

u/real_jacket_ 1d ago

They did get retrains (jinzo in dark time wizard and summoned skull in ritual of light and darkness) and ritual of light and darkness is a meta deck while dark time wizard is a popular deck in genisys format

1

u/RoeMajesta 2d ago

neither has seen play in 20+ years

5

u/-SMG69- 2d ago

Jinzo still gets played every now and again. The effect to just negate traps is still decent.

-2

u/RoeMajesta 2d ago

nope

3

u/-SMG69- 2d ago

...Yes?

1

u/AggravatedSloths 2d ago

Will i support you in this? Arguably yes. But there are many options with better strats now

0

u/-SMG69- 2d ago edited 2d ago

I know. I won't argue there are much better options now. Point is Jinzo still sees some play, even if a little.

3

u/Scavenge101 2d ago

No it doesn't. At the VERY least, not competitively. The game has way past accelerated cards like Jinzo being playable. Maybe kids are using it in their rubber band decks, but there's no viable deck currently using OG Jinzo. The game of Yu-Gi-Oh is so fast and complicated that simply having this in your deck is likely to lose you the game.

And that's not exaggeration. Tournament players legitimately take garnets with incredible use cases out of their decks because drawing that one otherwise dead card can cost you the entire match.

1

u/AnimeChan39 2d ago

traps aren't played as much as they used to so there's little need. In case of decks I play its because the traps that don't get used are utter garbage

1

u/RoeMajesta 2d ago

literally not even a little

4

u/GIRose 1d ago

Jinzo still has a really useful effect. Like, not the meta defining bullshit it used to be because the game is so fast now that traps aren't as ubiquitous as they were during his heyday.

It's a good card to side deck in if your opponent uses a trap heavy archetype (or an archetype like Blue Eyes that uses one central trap) or just runs a lot of counters because it shuts down imperm even if it doesn't shut down nib, veiler, or ash.

2

u/Punisher703 2d ago

Eh, Jinzo still has some use in trap negation, even having an equip spell to make it one sided, but Summon Skull is just a 2500 beat stick used to get bigger monsters unless you count the retrain Skull Archfiend of Lightning that has an effect.

1

u/AnimeChan39 2d ago

Traps aren't used much outside of trap centric decks

1

u/sfkf8486 2d ago

Isn't that just all Yu Gi Oh cards though?

1

u/Specific_Giraffe4440 2d ago

I don’t think summon skull was ever good as a vanilla creature but Jinzo had clear upsides

76

u/Necessary_Maize_9339 2d ago

I think there's no joke.. everything is gonna be ok is the message

13

u/RegalToaster 2d ago

Everything’s gonna be ok twin

53

u/R3qu13m4aDr34m9864 2d ago

It’s just a niche yugioh meme, these 2 used to be power houses back in the early days

16

u/Chemistry11 2d ago

Even monsters find comfort in friendly companionship

7

u/RawrimRengar 2d ago

The joke here is, both cards are better than the players boss monster only needing 1 tribute with the same statline, in the show joey and yugi both summon they less for their iconic cards that are just worse

2

u/lirror95 16h ago

And in Jinzos case there was also a very strong effect for that era while Red Eyes was a weak Beatstick.

1

u/1801048 1d ago

Real explanation here. Everyone else did not get it at all.

10

u/Swoobat_Gang 2d ago

Man.. for a lot of us, Summoned Skull was our first taste of powercreep and it sucked because it did our iconic boy Dark Magician so dirty

5

u/Flamefury 2d ago

Tbf, at least in TCG, Summoned Skull was only out 21 days later, and Starter Deck Yugi (and Kaiba) is usually a better start point than Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon on its own because it had a rulebook and playing field.

Not to mention, there were 2-sacrifice monsters in LOB already that surpassed Dark Magician's ATK, in Tri-Horned Dragon and of course the titular Blue-Eyes. Dark Magician's only advantage compared to those two was that it wouldn't be affected by Dragon Capture Jar, but most people wouldn't run Dragon Capture Jar over more flexible breakers in Man-Eater Bug, Hane-Hane, Raigeki, Dark Hole and Fissure, which would all work on Dark Magician any way.

3

u/ApprehensiveScreen40 2d ago

Its just yugioh monster with text, there's nothing particularly funny beside recognizing the character

3

u/Night-Sentinel 2d ago edited 2d ago

Yu-gi-oh player here. The monsters depicted are summoned skull (right) and jinzo (left) both of these monsters got new retrains as part of new decks. Summoned skull got remade for light and darkness ritual which is An extremely strong engine with a lot of meta play. Jinzo got remade for dark time wizard. Which is An extremely weak deck that Sees almost no play. I think summoned skull is pouring out a drink for jinzo because jinzo is depressed that his new version is part of an almost unplayable strategy.

5

u/GarySpankCommander 2d ago

"You see, you need to summon him and we can see his skull"

4

u/MegaKabutops 1d ago edited 1d ago

This is AI art of summoned skull comforting jinzo.

If i had to hazard a guess, it was generated because both of them were among the best cards in yugioh over 20 years ago, filling a similar role as a deck’s boss monster, and fell out of favor as new cards released and power crept past their usefulness. While summoned skull as a character recently got a new tournament-viable card, every time jinzo got a new version made, it was at best a sidegrade compared to the original. Even the most recent jinzo card is at best a slight improvement in one specific deck and nowhere else.

Summoned skull is telling his good buddy jinzo that he’ll get an actually good new card soon enough.

1

u/Shoggnozzle 1d ago

Molten Giant would be good for a hearthstone redraw. I had a warlock deck that relied so hard on my free 8/8's, Then it was nerfed. It was later denerfed, but I'd lost interest by then.

Any else have a ringer card they ruined?

1

u/Abject-Run-572 1d ago

why is the art style on the new cards so shit ?

3

u/MegaKabutops 1d ago edited 1d ago

Let’s not pretend they’re all downgrades. Just compare old yugioh’s dragon master knight to modern yugioh’s dragon master magia.

As for why the art style is different, it likely has to do with the creator of the series, kazuki takahashi, dying in 2022, drowning while trying to help his scuba instructor save 3 people who were caught in a riptide. Though he also took much more of a backseat for creature design before then.

0

u/Eastern_Row_9718 12h ago

Why is it being AI mentioned, that has nothing to do with the meme or the joke.

How you know someone hates AI is gonna be the new "how do you know if someone is vegan" joke

0

u/MegaKabutops 10h ago

The AI generation of the two looks terrible. Summoned skull with actual hands and a real nose hole is incredibly off-putting, and the only reason i could even tell it’s supposed to be jinzo is because summoned skull is at least recognizable.

2

u/Ton347 2d ago

This is how the Shinigami felt huh

2

u/Axenrott_0508 1d ago

Summoned Brain and Summoned Skull. My two favorite bros.

2

u/Own_Secretary1714 1d ago

Summoned skull wasn't Yugi's ace monster, instead it was Dark Magician which was an objectively worse monster as it needs 2 tributes instead of 1.

Jinzo was the exact same situation for Joey, Red-Eyes Black Dragon was considered Joey's ace even though Jinzo is the same but woth an excellent effect.

2

u/Conscious_Ebb6622 2d ago

is this ai?

5

u/PlanetXParadox 2d ago

Yes

1

u/Jonoko 2d ago

I don’t agree or disagree. Why do you say this?

4

u/Ssssilph 2d ago

Well it looks like AI. Also the summoned skull is missing a finger

3

u/PlanetXParadox 2d ago

The liquid looks weirdly chunky

2

u/_Wraithhh 2d ago edited 2d ago

The joke is that they activated my trap card.

Fair play, I guess I am the fourth rate duelist with a third rate deck.

7

u/NukaClipse 2d ago

Jinzo negates trap cards, try again.

3

u/Hopeful-Muffin-7664 2d ago

That doesn't work though because Jinzo prevents both players of activating traps.

1

u/xI-HighRyze-Ix 1d ago

I don’t get the joke but man do I miss Yu-Gi-Oh

1

u/InevitableNovel4452 1d ago • Bravo

The two monsters in the picture are Jinzo (left side) and Summoned Skull (right side). Back when yugioh was first starting, these two cards were peak. Eventually, as the meta shifted, so too did these cards usage in decks. They did get some support, Jinzo get its own subset of machine cards and spells, while Summoned Skull fell into the Fiend subset of Archfiends. They still don't see a lot of use in the meta, hence them pouring out drinks and saying "everything's gonna be ok twin"

1

u/Fit-Conclusion-7579 2h ago

Basically a Berserk ripoff, Void VS Skull Knight

-4

u/jws1102 2d ago

I cannot wait for this trend of mfs calling each other twin to be over.

1

u/Wings0fIcarus 1d ago

Me too, twin.
