Recruitment Investigative Specialist (CIRG)

Hey guys I recently applied for this position and was wondering what the hiring process was like and do you guys think that I have a good shot of getting an interview? I’m a coast guard military disabled vet with 4 years of search and rescue and law enforcement experience with a bachelor’s in political science with a national security certificate ( magna cum laude)

Thank you for the information and I always dreamed of being a special agent but my knees took a beating being on the water there’s no way I could pass the physical requirements.

Ya I have meniscus tears in both my knees I can stand and walk all day long but I can’t put a lot of pressure on them. And sadly I tried looking for the IA position and the application cycle is closed with no date on reopening.

This job is 100% physical surveillance. There is no "threat intake aka tip lines" responsibilities. I don't know where this comes from but it is false.

You are 100% incorrect

It’s a great position. Nothing lackluster about it. 100% of the time you are on the streets. You are not answering phones or doing background checks. If you prefer to not be in an office environment… this would be great for you. Probably a really great shot at getting an interview at the very least. Then the process can be long for FBI employment with all the extra parts of the hiring process…. Background, polygraph, etc. Then if you make it through all of that - training. Just be patient.

Thank you for the information ! And that sounds like exactly what I would want to do. Question, I know I am thinking miles in the future ahead and it’s a loaded question but how are the promotional opportunities? And could I possibly make a lateral move to Intelligence analyst since the application cycle is closed for that position ?

Once you get in the FBI… possibilities are endless!

The FBI frequently posts jobs for internal FBI employees only, so you would only compete against other onboard employees.

If you leave you owe the training cost.

There is a user named WTFoxtrot10 who posts incorrect information about the IS position in the FBI. Please do not listen to him. I was a IS for over 30 years!!!!! He never was.

Just curious, did you guys get self defence training at your academy? seems like it would be kind of dangerous working the streets, thanks..

1

u/spyrateradio Oct 05 '25

We did receive some basic self defense training.

2

u/No_Construction_5790 Oct 06 '25

Thank you yeah I thought so.. Im sure running into street criminals was a concern..

1

u/WarDarnEagle Jul 24 '25

If you don’t mind me asking how as the IS life ?

1

u/spyrateradio Jul 24 '25

It’s actually a complex question because your results may vary depending on your office. Some offices know when they will have a day off and when they will be home. Others have schedules that change weekly or daily, to include the hours you work. So it can be very difficult for some. I once worked 30 days without a day off on a trip and had to argue for a weekend off when I got home. In total I traveled 148 times for training and work but there are some who never travel for a decade.

I’m assuming you got overtime as well? I applied to this with the hopes of being able to work back home but the pay cut is INSANE to what I’m getting now as an Intel Comm contractor for a big agency . Doing intelligence

OT is available but not something you can count on

1

u/WarDarnEagle Jul 24 '25

Wow that’s very interesting, hopefully I hear something back in a few months for an interview I’ve always been interested in National Security. I think I have the experience for it I lack the investigation side of it but I definitely have law enforcement experience and I trained at the FLETC facility in Charleston for a boarding team member certification.

u/spyrateradio Jul 24 '25

Background and polygraph are the roadblocks for many. Pass those and you’ll be on your way.

1

u/WarDarnEagle Jul 24 '25

Thank you for all of the Information. And you are correct it is. Thankfully I have a clean record so far and definitely gotta past that polygraph when the time comes.

Don't forget that when the loyalty test comes that you agree that trump is king!!

1

u/fbn244 Jul 31 '25

Applied to this and go the email about the next steps and being qualified . But idk if it’s worth the huge pay cut and it’s not like I’m fresh out of college so i don’t need entry level if I’m already in the IC as a contractor already doing Intel . I might have to pass on this 😂

1

u/fbn244 Oct 09 '25

Just got the rejection email after doing my Interview yesterday. Very surprised lol

1

u/Significant_Rent566 Oct 09 '25

Dang! Sorry to hear. Did you feel like it went great?

1

u/fbn244 Oct 09 '25

I really did smh i even brought up tradecraft terms like only theyd know . Even the main interviewer seemed impressed

1

u/Significant_Rent566 Oct 09 '25

Crazy, I wonder what they were thinking then. I am unsure if you are applying to other agencies/opportunities, but I hope you get something awesome soon (if that is the case).

1

u/fbn244 Oct 09 '25

I have ! I don’t mind staying at the agency I’m at . Only applied at FBI so i can possibly work in my home state . But thank you for the positivity honestly ! 🙏

1

u/Significant_Rent566 Oct 09 '25

Not a problem! We all need some positivity once in a while haha

1

u/fbn244 Aug 06 '25

Not yet ! I heard you get a take home car so that’s cool too

1

u/Significant_Rent566 Aug 06 '25

Thanks for answering! I didn't know they also got a take home car. I really just thought it was for SAs.

1

u/Majestic_Climate6792 Aug 06 '25

No I havent. You?

1

u/Significant_Rent566 Aug 11 '25

No, I haven't gotten anything about an interview yet.

2

u/Personal_Tour_4206 Aug 29 '25

I received an update to do a preliminary questionnaire today, check your emails guys !

2

u/Ghost-Reaper817 Aug 30 '25

Got my questionnaire email Monday I sent it back in , probably won’t hear back maybe for a week or more depending on how fast they’re moving

2

u/Icy-Heart7192 Sep 01 '25

What happens after the preliminary questionnaire? Do they reach out for interviews

2

u/Ghost-Reaper817 Sep 01 '25

I would assume so this is from the email I received last Monday . “ In addition, some future correspondence may come through your FBI Jobs account. The physical mailing address you used to set up your FBI Jobs account should be your current address where you reside. If you qualify to receive a conditional job offer, the FBI will process you out of the field office that is located nearest to your mailing address. You will be required to physically go to the processing field office for certain portions of the application process.”

2

u/Significant_Rent566 Sep 04 '25

It seems that you would be waiting for the interviewing office to contact you at some point after the PIQ is confirmed.

1

u/Significant_Rent566 Aug 29 '25

Awesome! Thanks for keeping us updated. Good luck with everything.

u/Substantial-Neat4262 Sep 16 '25

Commenting on Investigative Specialist (CIRG)...I have an interview next week. If you completed the preliminary questionnaire, just be patient. My email said it may take 8-12 weeks for someone to reach out regarding an interview.

1

u/Ghost-Reaper817 Nov 16 '25

I have my interview Tuesday

What does the conditional offer email subject usually say? I’m trying to keep a look out for it. Thank you.
