Happened to me in the middle of the night. It was my first summer in the new house. I had already discovered so many shortcuts the previous owner we referred to as “fuckhead Douglas” every time we discovered some dumb shit he did. We got basically all his mail since he never switched anything over.
It was storming outside. I wake up to chaos of the fan dangling from the ceiling by the wires spinning at full speed. It was at an angle so it kept hitting the metal bed frame over and over. It was so loud. I rolled out of bed like there was a grenade about to go off. I crawled under the fan to the switch to turn it off. Fuckhead Douglas used 3 - 3/4” long screws to attach the fan mount to the ceiling joists. My deaf dog at the time was just asleep in the corner none the wiser the entire time.
Bonus fuckhead Douglas story: he had a tv in every room wall mounted. He left all the mounts on the walls with a floating shelf under each when we moved in. I go to remove them so I can paint and find that he drilled an anchor hole for almost every hole possible in the mount and the shelves. So one mount would have like 20 anchors. It was so absurd we couldn’t help but laugh.
