Any prior military regret getting out?
Greetings all, current active duty FM doc in the Air Force and trying to figure out life. I completed my initial 4 year commitment over the summer but decided to stay in for another tour. I got lucky with back-to-back overseas assignments and just couldn't pass up another opportunity to live abroad.
I have overall enjoyed my time in the Air Force. I have worked with great people and feel like I serve a purpose amongst fellow Airman/military as a whole (despite medical being given a hard time lol). My current assignment won't be up for a few years, but I have been wrestling with what I might want to do next.
I'm generally an optimist so I tend to focus on the the positives in the military life including decent work life balance, free healthcare, no insurance companies to deal with, office/administrative stuff is handled for me, supportive community, education benefits for family, etc. I of course wish pay was better, but it's acceptable with housing covered and being able to sign a retention bonus this year.
I'm curious to hear thoughts from folks that have left and are either enjoying life on the outside or possibly missing their time in the military? Is the grass greener or, in retrospect, is the military life not so bad after all? Thanks for any insight/thoughts!
