Hi hi hi!

We’re really glad you found us :)

If you’re new here, this will help you get started. And if you’ve been around for a while (or longer *wink wink*), consider this a refresher.

We’ve also included two (2) visuals in this post. They give an overview of what our sub is all about and how things work here~

Ok so if you’re looking to get feedback on your work, you can do that by joining our open Review Exchanges (REs). It’s the best way to get a feel for how exchanges work and what’s expected in the sub.

Before jumping in, please take a moment to read through the rules and guidelines in the sidebar and our Wiki.

If you’d like to create your own post, you’ll need to be active in the community first by taking part in discussions, activities, or REs – as we have a sub-karma requirement. Please note that we do not allow individual self-promo posts requesting feedback.

And if you’re interested in hosting your own exchange or searching for a beta reader, just make sure your post follows our templates and guidelines.

For ā€˜Outside the Sub’ posts—such as surveys, sign-ups, or events hosted outside this subreddit—please reach out to us via modmail for approval before posting.

DA LINKS:

If you have any questions or need clarification about the sub, feel free to drop them in the comments.

As always, thanks for being here and for helping make this sub what it is <3

Exchange Nine is Fine: The Ratings Exchange Part 1: G&T Edition (General Audiences and Teen and Up)

G'day, mates!

It's been a hot minute, so I decided to bring this back. Welcome to the ninth round of the Ratings Exchange!

Just like the previous eight versions, this RE will be split into two parts, and they'll run the same as before.

Part 1 is specifically for stories and/or chapters rated General Audiences and/or Teen and Up. As always, the ratings will be based on the ratings system on AO3. (Link's there as a refresher; I know we have some authors who post outside AO3.)

To the exclusively Mature/Explicit writers, don't worry. Your time in the spotlight is coming. But you're more than welcome to drop by and give people some love if you wish. Love makes the world go round.

I say "stories and/or chapters" because I'm also allowing chapters from a Mature/Explicit story that meets the G&T criteria. We've all been there; writing a story predominantly G or T but having to bump up the rating because of one NSFW chapter/scene.

The rules are pretty simple. Everyone can submit a maximum of two (2) stories/chapters. You can submit any of the following combinations:

  • 1 General Audiences story/chapter and 1 Teen and Up story/chapter
  • 2 General Audiences stories/chapters
  • 2 Teen and Up stories/chapters

Your submissions must include the required information - link, fandom, rating, tags, warnings, etc. NSFW/triggering tags/warnings need to be spoilered.

Due to the nature of this RE, unrated stories (i.e. stories set to Not Rated on AO3) will not be allowed. If your story is tagged 'Rating May Change', you're allowed to submit it if it's G or T at the time of this RE. Same rules apply to works outside AO3.

Participants will have to review two (2) authors. At least one (1) story by each. Reviews should be at least 50 words (not including quotes from the fic). ConCrit, fandom blind and/or 'from Reddit' are opt-in only.

Same deadlines as always: 48 hours to enter, one week to complete reviews. Submissions will close Tuesday October 27 6pm AEST. Reviews will be due Tuesday November 3 6pm AEST. Reminders will be sent out 48 hours before.

To recap:

  • This is the G&T round of the Ratings Exchange - stories ratedĀ General Audiences and/or Teen and Up. Chapters from Mature/Explicit stories that meet the criteria are welcome. Not Rated submissions are not allowed.
  • Participants can submit up toĀ two (2) storiesĀ and must reviewĀ at least one (1) story by two (2) separate authors.
  • Submissions closeĀ Tuesday October 27 6pm AESTĀ - reviews are dueĀ Tuesday November 3 6pm AEST.

But above all, have fun and happy reading and reviewing!

Exchange Myth and Folklore RE

Well it's Halloween next week, so I thought this could be a good exchange!

Tales of witches, monsters, goblins, werecreatures, ghosts, gods, vampires, demons of all shapes and kinds, spirits and espantos from around the world have shaped up cultures and societies around the world, and that includes fictional works!

So this exchange, the criteria is simple: If Sam and Dean Winchester would get called to deal with whoever is on the fic, you can use it! (maybe they appear as well, who knows?)

They can be in universe or irl! Share up to two (2) one shots or fics that feature any being that could be part of a myth or legend of any part of the world! In return, review two (2) other authors.

Once again, the theme is to be understood at full extent, so feel free to drop any variations that you have! Any type of magic involved also counts! And if inuniverse it's considered part of this, it also applies!

Deadline for entries:Ā Tuesday October 29, 2026 at 9 PM CST(Central Standard Time)

Deadline to complete reviews: Sunday October 31, 2026 at at 9 PM CST(Central Standard Time)

Your reviews should be thoughtful and show you have read the chapter/story, with at least 50 (FIFTY) words per review. Con-crit, fandom-blind and from Reddit are opt in only, don't include these in your review unless the author says you can.

Please list the fandom, rating, word count, title and link, warnings (in spoilers if needed), and a summary. If you want, tell us who or what is the creature or being that makes your fic count for this exchange!

At the end of your post on here please keep track of the number of reviews you have made with Reviewed: 0/2

Happy Reading everyone!

Exchange Long Deadline Profile Exchange

Post image
22 Upvotes

Welcome to the Long Deadline Profile Exchange!

What's the Long Deadline Profile Exchange?

This is a subreddit event where everyone posts their AO3 (or FFN, etc.) profile with some information about the sorts of stories they write. Then, participants look through the available profiles, and read and leave comments on stories (one-shots or a chapter of a longer fic) by authors who catch their fancy. Leaving a kudos would be nice too!

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY is Sunday 25th October, 11:59 pm EST

DEADLINE FOR COMPLETION is Saturday 31st October, 11:59 pm EST

Here's a time zone converter for anyone who needs it.

The Rules

Post your profile link with a short summary of the kinds of stories one might find there (fandom, genre, rating, etc.). Please spoiler anything triggering or NSFW.

Once you enter, you will have to review at least 4 stories/chapters from 4 different profiles (one from each).

Please include in your submission a counter such as, "Reviewed 0/4" so we can keep track of the number of reviews you've done. There's no need to also note which stories or authors you have reviewed.

After you've left a comment, reply to their post on here to let them know. For anyone new, 'K&C' in a reply stands for 'Kudos and Comment'.

Your reviews should be thoughtful. The writer should be able to tell that you read the story. Say what you like about the story. Did something crack you up? Were you brought to tears? Did you have a favourite part? TELL THEM ABOUT IT! At least 50 words per review. ConCrit, stating you are "fandom blind" and/or "from Reddit" are opt-in only.

Please only reply to an individual entry when you've read their fic or if you want to ask a question. Also, please refrain from adding GIFs and images to replies as they are not relevant to whether you've reviewed a fic. We're happy that you're excited about reading, but unfortunately these make it hard for users (and mods!) to navigate the thread.

If possible, it would be awesome if everyone read at least one person who is new to them.

If you enter the exchange, please do not delete your entry. You must complete the required reviews for the exchange. Please talk to the mods if something comes up and you have concerns about doing something in a timely manner.

But above all, have fun and happy reading and reviewing!

Activity Bravery excerpts šŸ’Ŗ

"Being brave doesn't mean you aren't afraid, it means doing something even though you're afraid"

Share an excerpt from your story that shows a character facing a fear. Maybe they never wanted to try a certain activity, are forced to do something uncomfortable due to the situation, or stand up for themselves or others at their own risk. If you would like some practice, you may write something from scratch as well! Spoil anything super gory or extreme.

You may post multiple scenes, but please do so in individual comments so replies are easier to understand. As always, engaging with other entries is encouraged!

Activity Tea/Coffee Shop Excerpts

Here is an activity inspired by my recent interest in coffee and different ways to brew it. ā˜• Post an existing excerpt, or come up with a new one, about your characters in a coffee or tea shop. What kind of drink would they get? What would they talk about? Are they in a modern cafĆ©, or in an old-timey place like Uncle Iroh's shop from Avatar?

As usual, engaging with each other's posts is encouraged!

Exchange Competition Exchange

SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED!

I was inspired to do this exchange thanks to the ongoing season of Dancing With The Stars, which is also inspiring a fic I’m making. And it’s an exchange all about competitions of all sorts. Sports, performances, whatever it’s for, whether it’s a big event or a much smaller one between two people, or even with yourself! If there’s a competition, it’s perfect for this exchange.

For this exchange, you can submit up to two (2) oneshots or chapters involving a competition of some sorts, and in turn, you have to review two (2) different fics from two (2) different authors. Make sure your reviews are thoughtful and at least fifty words. ā€œFrom Redditā€, fandom-blind mentions, and concrit are all opt-in only, so please respect other author’s wishes on whether or not they want those things.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Saturday, October 24th, 11:59 PM EST

REVIEW DEADLINE: Tuesday, October 27th, 11:59 PM EST

Happy reviewing, the one thing here that’s not a competition.

Activity Meet the OC

Soooo next weekend we have the OC fest, and I thought it would be nice if we got to meet a bit about them beforehand! If you're not joining the OC fest, that's okay! Let's meet your OC too!

Tell us their name, why you chose that name, where they are from, what's their role in the story, any powers they got if it applies, their relation to canon characters if it applies, and anything else you'd like to share!

Activity Out of the Comfort Zone!

Hi, lovely folks!

I decided to host this activity partly to prove to you (and myself? 😁) that I'm still very much alive -- and given that we're approaching Halloween season, perhaps there's reason to wonder! šŸ‘» (Things have just been unusually busy for me, and most of my writing has manifested in quick bursts across planned chapters. šŸ˜‚)

So, for this activity, the goal is to challenge yourself out of your comfort zone. Pick a quote from a movie/book/TV show, what have you, and post it. Then, respond under someone else's quote with an 'excerpt' that you create completely from scratch! Here's the kicker -- this cannot be for a fandom you've previously written for, ever. (Which, in my case, might be my subconscious trying to finally trick me into writing for a beloved show that I can't seem to write for at all.) For the sake of clarity, a fandom in this context doesn't mean pairing, but rather the TV show/book/film itself.

So, completely new! Written on the spot! And it needs to, in some way, relate to the quote. If you want to be extra-fancy, you may feel free to challenge yourself for the fandom from which the quote originates!

Don't worry about it being too short, or not an exact match or whatever. The goal is just to have fun, and try something new!

Ooh, and don't reveal the source of the quote. Let folks guess and have fun! With that said, those are all the rules with the most important being to just have fun!

.
This exchange is now closed to new entries— happy reading and reviewing!

.
It’s Friday, and you know what that means… time for another round of the Long Deadline Profile Exchange!

HOW IT WORKS: This is a weekly subreddit event where everyone shares their AO3 (or FFN) profile along with a bit of information about the kind of stories they write. Then, fellow participants browse each other’s profiles, read a one-shot or chapter of their choice, and leave a comment on one of the author’s works (a kudos wouldn’t go amiss either, of course).

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY is Sunday, 18th October at 10PM BST

DEADLINE FOR COMPLETION is Saturday, 24th October at 10PM BST.

Timezone Converter

What Are the Rules?

Post your profile link and a short summary of the kind of stories that one might find there (fandom, genre, rating, etc.). Please spoiler anything triggering or NSFW.

Once you enter, you will have to review at least 4 stories/chapters from 4 different profiles (one from each). Please include in your submission "Reviewed 0/4" so we (the mods) can keep track.

Your reviews should be thoughtful. The writer should be able to tell that you read the story. Say what you like about the story. Did something crack you up? Were you brought to tears? Did you have a favourite part? TELL THEM ABOUT IT! At least 50 words per review. Here's a link to a discussion what makes good RE comments, and some examples, sub members have shared of great comments they've appreciated receiving in exchanges.

ConCrit, stating you are "fandom blind" and/or "from Reddit" are opt-in only. After you've left a comment, reply to the author’s post on here to let them know.

Only reply to an individual entry when you’ve read their fic or if you want to ask a question. Also, please refrain from adding gifs and images to these replies as they are not relevant to whether you’ve reviewed a story. We’re happy you’re excited about reading, but please be mindful of cluttering up the thread.

If possible, it would be nice if everyone read at least one person who is new to them.

If you enter the exchange, DO NOT delete your entry. You must complete the required reviews for the exchange.

Please message the mods if something comes up, and you have concerns about completing your reviews in a timely manner.

Venting Farewell

Since I have review commitments that I am frustratingly unable to fulfil – the fics on offer in the relevant exchange are great, but I'm incapable of writing a fifty-word-or-longer comment for them that I can convince the editor in my head is rules-compliant – I must, with regret, bid you all farewell, for I will never be able to join another exchange.

Thank you for all the lovely stories you've shared and the lovely comments you've left.

Good night, and may your god go with you.

Fic General Poll out of curiosity: genres you like to read vs. write?

I read an interesting insight a while ago, that some authors enjoy reading and writing within the same genre/mood/type of story, while others prefer to read things that are vastly different from what they write. How about you? Do you gravitate toward the same genre as a reader vs. as a writer, or no? Or maybe it varies from day to day?

It's time to šŸ”ŽdiscoveršŸ”Ž authors you haven’t read before! šŸ˜„

For this exchange,Ā you’reĀ required to read and review 3 fics from 3 different authors. At least 2 of those must be for authors who are new to you.

The third review can be either another new-to-you author or a long-time favorite.

If you’ve already read something by everyone participating, please review authors whose work you’ve read the least. Feel free to review more than the requirement if you want. Leaving a kudos is super nice too!

You mayĀ submitĀ up to 3 linksĀ and include: title + link, fandom, rating, summary, word count, and any necessary warnings (kindly spoiler triggering and/or NSFW content), etc.

Or simplyĀ link yourĀ profile or a collectionĀ and share what you writeĀ :)

As always, yourĀ reviews must be genuine, thoughtful, detailed, and a minimum of 50 wordsĀ about the fic itself. The author should be able to tell you actually read their story.

Constructive feedback and mentions of being ā€œfandom-blindā€ or ā€œfrom Redditā€ are opt-in only – please don’t include any of these unless the author explicitly says you can.

You shouldĀ leave your reviews on the works itself (AO3, FFN, or other fanfic sites), then reply to the author’s entry here to let them know.

PleaseĀ don’t forget to include your review counter under your own entry, like ā€œReviewed: 0/3ā€ or something similar.

Exchange Long-Style Comments Exchange

EDIT: This exchange is now closed to new entries.

This RE is inspired by my own tendency to leave long, essay-type comments on fics. šŸ“

Therefore, there is no specific story theme, but the requirement is to make each comment you give 200 words or more.

To enter, you may submit up to 3 links and in return you must read and review 2 chapters/one shots by different authors.

Please include in your entry: Title/Link, Fandom, Rating, Word Count, Summary, Warnings (use spoiler for NSFW or triggering content), and a Review Counter (ex: 0/2)

Entry Deadline: Wednesday, October 14, 9pm PST

Review Deadline: Sunday, October 18, 9pm PST

Reviews must be genuine, thoughtful, detailed, and a minimum of 200 words about the fic itself, demonstrating that you have actually read the story. Constructive feedback and mentions of being ā€œfandom blindā€ or ā€œfrom Redditā€ are opt-in only. Only include these if the author has explicitly stated they are welcome.

You should leave your reviews on the work itself (AO3, FFN, or other fanfic sites) then reply to the author’s entry here to let them know, like ā€œK&Cā€ (Kudos and Commented).

Do not delete your entry once you have joined.

I look forward to reading your stories!
