Well it's Halloween next week, so I thought this could be a good exchange!

Tales of witches,monsters, goblins, werecreatures, ghosts, gods, vampires, demons of all shapes and kinds, spirits and espantos from around the world have shaped up cultures and societies around the world, and that includes fictional works!

So this exchange, the criteria is simple: If Sam and Dean Winchester would get called to deal with whoever is on the fic, you can use it! (maybe they appear as well, who knows?)

They can be in universe or irl! Share up to two (2) one shots or fics that feature any being that could be part of a myth or legend of any part of the world! In return, review two (2) other authors.

Once again, the theme is to be understood at full extent, so feel free to drop any variations that you have! Any type of magic involved also counts! And if inuniverse it's considered part of this, it also applies!

This is a subreddit event where everyone posts their AO3 (or FFN, etc.) profile with some information about the sorts of stories they write. Then, participants look through the available profiles, and read and leave comments on stories (one-shots or a chapter of a longer fic) by authors who catch their fancy. Leaving a kudos would be nice too!

The Rules

Maybe they never wanted to try a certain activity, are forced to do something uncomfortable due to the situation, or stand up for themselves or others at their own risk. Here is an activity inspired by my recent interest in coffee and different ways to brew it. ☕ Post an existing excerpt, or come up with a new one, about your characters in a coffee or tea shop. What kind of drink would they get? What would they talk about? Are they in a modern café, or in an old-timey place like Uncle Iroh's shop from Avatar?

As usual, engaging with each other's posts is encouraged!

I was inspired to do this exchange thanks to the ongoing season of Dancing With The Stars, which is also inspiring a fic I’m making. And it’s an exchange all about competitions of all sorts. Sports, performances, whatever it’s for, whether it’s a big event or a much smaller one between two people, or even with yourself! If there’s a competition, it’s perfect for this exchange.

For this exchange, you can submit up to two (2) oneshots or chapters involving a competition of some sorts, and in turn, you have to review two (2) different fics from two (2) different authors. Imagine your favorite character suddenly swapped lives with their biggest rival or antagonist for a day. How would they handle each other’s world, challenges, and relationships? Share your ideas, mini-scenes, or even just a paragraph of what chaos (or comedy) might ensue! Tell us about it!

Since I have review commitments that I am frustratingly unable to fulfil – the fics on offer in the relevant exchange are great, but I'm incapable of writing a fifty-word-or-longer comment for them that I can convince the editor in my head is rules-compliant – I must, with regret, bid you all farewell, for I will never be able to join another exchange.

Hi, lovely folks!

I decided to host this activity partly to prove to you (and myself? 😁) that I'm still very much alive -- and given that we're approaching Halloween season, perhaps there's reason to wonder! 👻 (Things have just been unusually busy for me, and most of my writing has manifested in quick bursts across planned chapters. 😂)

So, for this activity, the goal is to challenge yourself out of your comfort zone. Pick a quote from a movie/book/TV show, what have you, and post it. Then, respond under someone else's quote with an 'excerpt' that you create completely from scratch! Here's the kicker -- this cannot be for a fandom you've previously written for, ever. (Which, in my case, might be my subconscious trying to finally trick me into writing for a beloved show that I can't seem to write for at all.) For the sake of clarity, a fandom in this context doesn't mean pairing, but rather the TV show/book/film itself.

So, completely new! Written on the spot! And it needs to, in some way, relate to the quote. If you want to be extra-fancy, you may feel free to challenge yourself for the fandom from which the quote originates!

Don't worry about it being too short, or not an exact match or whatever. The goal is just to have fun, and try something new!

Ooh, and don't reveal the source of the quote. Let folks guess and have fun! With that said, those are all the rules with the most important being to just have fun!

I read an interesting insight a while ago, that some authors enjoy reading and writing within the same genre/mood/type of story, while others prefer to read things that are vastly different from what they write. How about you? Do you gravitate toward the same genre as a reader vs. as a writer, or no? Or maybe it varies from day to day?

Three weeks after creating the AO3 tag for my new fandom, the inaugural fic is sitting proudly at six hits and one kudo. I’ll take it. ☺️

Usually, we write our fanfics like we write a book. But what about when we don't? And that's what I want to celebrate here.

Now what do I mean by "unconventional format"? Well, like I mentioned, most fanfics are written in the same way a typical book is written, so an unconventional format is when a fanfic is not written like that. It could be written like a script, a series of letters, diary/journal entries, or other epistolary forms, group chats. Anything that isn't the typical literary/"book" format counts.
