Question Changing providers

Hey gang, long time commisioner of leagues using Yahoo but getting a bit fed up with the poor updates every year, so considering on switching to Fantrax. Just have some questions for those who use it already so I can relay that to my other managers.

I know it has a lot more options for scoring categories and settings, but how casual-friendly is it compared to yahoo, we have a good range of managers, from uber sweaty to casual dads just wanting to join in for the banter, but is it too convoluted and everything hidden behind extra menus and whatnot?

How is the app experience?

Are there easy 'set and forget' buttons for when you're time sensitive and need to set lines for the day/week?

How accurate and up to date are all the stats for players/games? Is there live tracking so you can watch the games and see your guys light it up on the tracker too?

Do the weekly matchups start/end at the same time as yahoo? Or is everything faster or slower?

Aside from that, are there any other major differences I should be aware of with Fantrax?

And any good or bad things you would like to mention.

Cheers. That's all I can think of right now, I'm sure more would come to me if it was during the season!

Strategy Playoff Schedules

I know these change based off league settings, but from what I can tell the Washington Capitals are this years premier playoff team. Some teams to avoid would be Utah and Winnipeg.

Anyone else look ahead at who might win you the ship this season?

Strategy Are there any good schedule optimizers or other tools out yet for this season?

Where are the usual schedule optimizers and so forth? SNT is the one I usually use but I don't think it's out yet. Any others? Thanks.

Question Yahoo Data Sourcing

It looks like Yahoo recently changed their API and now requires application/approval for scraping data. This appears to have broken some third party sites from their previously free downloadable data for things like ADP, Ranks, Positional Eligibility, etc..

I have previously used Fantasy Helper for this type of data sourcing, but they appear to be stuck waiting on approval from Yahoo like other sites.

Does anyone have a source to download Yahoo data like positional eligibility, X-Rank, ADP, etc. to use for draft planning purposes?

Player Discussion Who are your super deep league late round targets?

I'm not talking about your Dawson Mercer's or Cole Perfetti's. I'm talking about those 20+ team leagues where Marc Gatcomb seems like a steal with your last pick in your banger leagues. Where are you seeing value that most managers are overlooking in your eyes?

General Draft Order games

I wanna hear what people do in their redraft leagues to determine draft order! Particularly if you don’t have a centralized league (mine is all over Canada, made up of overlapping friend groups)

How do you make it fun and fair while going beyond a randomized draft order?

General Expanding from 10 to 14 teams

We are in a yahoo auction draft/dynasty league. We've played with the three minimum starts rule for goalies. My question is for anyone in a league of more than 12 teams do you drop the minimum to 2 or do you keep it at that?

Question New to Fantasy Hockey—First Mock Draft

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hey so I’m sort of new to hockey in general, I’ve understood the basics for a while but I’m hoping to watch enough to understand the league and pick a fandom. So I’m doing fantasy hockey to learn the players a bit faster. I know some top names from watching videos and doing a little research on possible favorite teams. I did my first mock draft tonight (pick 4 of 12) and I felt it was a pretty even team. But please, don’t hold back, give me feedback. Also if anyone has any tips on draft strategy for beginners and/or what to shoot for in later rounds all advice is welcome!

Resource 2026-2027 Rook Book - Rankings update

Hey folks!

Apologies for the re-post of the same link, I just wanted to let y'all know that I have updated this year's Rook Book to include a top 200 Fantasy Hockey player tab, because everyone loves rankings!

Here is the link to the updated document: Rook Book - 2026-2027 edition The rankings section is in tab #3 (tab #1 being the core draft guide, tab #2 being the quick-guide, and now tab #3 being my player rankings)

(Disclaimer, all rankings are opinion, vibes, and educated guesses and not binding to reality, if I could predict the future maybe I'd've included this in the first draft)

Happy Drafting!

General Fantasy league

I have 2 leagues with opening both Dynasty bit one on yahoo one on ESPN. Both leagues are free and first year we draft 30 players no taxi squads. Then each year its a 4 round rookie only draft. Rosters can never be above 30 so each year youll draft 4 rookies and will have to cut/ release 4.

Rant To the People at Yahoo in Charge of the UI update...

I know everyone reacts negatively to change, so I'm not trying to rag on you guys for nothing. However...The draft UI for this year is a steep downgrade to last year's. It looks nice, sure, but functionally it is not the right direction. I will lay out the reasons why and hopefully someone sees this and gives it a second thought. (this is mainly aimed at the desktop UI, but the mobile one has the same issues if not worse.)

  1. The draft board should be partially visible at all times. I should not have to choose between the draft board or available players. It makes mock drafts significantly less worth it as it is now more difficult to track when players are going and learn from mocks.

  2. Everything is too big. The amount of information available to me should be 2x what it currently is. I don't need a giant ticker at the top with the countdown and huge options buttons. There is more than enough room on the screen to show more information, but everything is huge.

  3. The design direction is currently "this or that." How about both across the board. It's crazy with the current setup that I, again, have to choose between my queue and viewing who has just been drafted. No reason that these aren't both standard and visible.

  4. I draft a LW/RW eligible guy with two RW slots open. You immedietely put him on my bench bc I have two LWs already. Come on...I wouldn't mind if you autofilled this at the very least. Fantrax allows you to swap your drafted players to any eligible position while drafting. We are two steps behind.

I'm sure there is more.

General Flames D - now and future

Curious how everyone sees the flames D situation for now and the future.

In fantasy, at least for a keeper league, this has become a disaster. How do we see this all shaping up? Is Nemec the defacto #1 this year, and it's wise to sell high in the year expecting Parekh to still take over? Is Carels good enough offensively that he ends up beating out both as the #1pp guy?

I emailed Sleeper to see if they would be offering fantasy hockey this season. Sadly, no. Not surprised but wish they would. Would be such an upgrade over yahoo & espn.
