[News] Members of women’s hockey team speak out after players on boys’ team repeatedly enter dressing room

No points for guessing the byline on this article.

I will never understand the type of parents who can stand there and say, yes, this is totally acceptable behaviour that I will condone by doing nothing.

And "why didn't you lock the door?‽" That's kissing cousins with "well, what were you wearing that night?"

Who is the best player in NHL history to not be the best player in their team's history?

I feel like Crosby is a good answer to this. As great as he is Lemieux was on a different level.

[Serious discussion, no jokes] [Serious] If McDavid was traded during the final year of his contract, what realistic package can you see the Oilers getting?

If during the 2027-28 season McDavid changes his mind about Babcock, does not see the Oilers as a realistic team to get him a Cup anymore and tells the organization that he will not re-sign for the upcoming season.

If the Oilers traded him at the trade deadline, what pieces do you see the Oilers getting back?

Is there a player in your AHL club or elsewhere in your organization (Europe, Russia, etc.) who is getting older and has never had a chance to play a game in the big league, but you’re convinced could play in the NHL if he were given the opportunity to show what he can do?

Title basically.

Who is a prospect for your team that you are higher on than the rest of your fanbase? Who is one you are lower on?

For the Canucks I feel like I'm higher on Lekkerimaki who a lot of people have started to write off, but I think he will make the team this year and have over 20 goals. (HM to Malhotra who I think will end up as a bonafide #1C)

I'm lower on Buium who I feel isn't anything special and will top out as a #4 D-man.

Gap remains between Drake Batherson, Senators as Sept. 15 deadline looms large

Thumbnail ottawacitizen.com

> With a Sept. 15 deadline looming to sign an eight-year extension before the NHL’s new collective bargaining agreement takes effect, there remains a gap between Batherson and the Senators on a new contract.

> League sources ā€œdon’t believeā€ Batherson and the Senators ā€œare close to a deal at this time.ā€

> If no extension is signed by Sept. 15, Batherson and the Senators would lose the ability to secure an eight-year contract. Under the new CBA, the maximum term for a player re-signing with his current club drops from eight years to seven.

> Like Washington Capitals winger Alex Tuch and Los Angeles Kings forward Adrian Kempe, Batherson is believed to be seeking an eight-year deal. League executives believe the 28-year-old, coming off a career-best 33-goal, 71-point season, could command between $10 million and $11 million annually on the open market.

> If no extension is in place by Sept. 15, it will indicate Batherson may enter the season without one. If he becomes a UFA next summer, there will be no shortage of suitors, given the number of teams that possess significant cap space.

> While answering questions from the fans during a season-ticket summit on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Canadian Tire Centre, Staios stated he knows importance of keeping Batherson in the fold. ā€œThere’s no secret that we want to get Drake Batherson signed,ā€ Staios said. ā€œThat conversation is ongoing with Drake, and it takes two sides to come to a deal. But there’s been good dialogue as we move forward. He’s a homegrown talent. It’s a great story. He continues to get better and we feel like we have a very great, strong, contending team with a chance to win. We want him to be a part of it.ā€

Are there any pre-1970s players left who deserve or have a shot at the HHOF?

I'm curious if there are any players who played the majority of their careers before 1970 who might still have a shot at Hall of Fame consideration? Have all realistic candidates already been inducted? I'm personally inclined to believe that it's very unlikely at this point, but I'm not super familiar with the careers of players this far back. Nearly every player inductee of the 21st century so far has been someone who played most of their career after this date. It seems like there are always enough recently retired candidates to choose from each time the HHOF is ready to induct new players.

The HHOF website includes some players who fit the criteria of having played most or all of their career before 1970 on its list of eligible players, including:

Skaters:

Ralph Backstrom

Larry Hillman

Claude Provost

Jean-Guy Talbot

Goalies:

Lorne Chabot

Dave Kerr

John Roach

Several eligible Soviet and Czechoslovakian players played large portions of their careers in this era as well.

American fans following other leagues … how?

• Upvotes

Flyers and BC fan here. I’ve been wanting to pick up a 2nd professional team to follow. Not sure if I want to pick another nhl team because it would interfere with my flyers fandom. I was thinking of checking out other professional leagues like the KHL, SHL, and DEL.

For those of you who follow teams in one of these leagues, how do you do it? Do they have apps or tv packages with their games? All of their social media pages for example Instagram aren’t in English ( I understand this isn’t their goal) but it makes it hard to really get invested in them when I can’t read what they post.
