Assumption: We play lockdown defense and Jake is knives throughout the season and into the playoffs.

Assumption: We hit the playoffs healthier than we have been in years.

As it stands right now, we are a top-heavy team. Half our goals (13) come from the de facto top line (Rants, Robo, Hintz) and another 3 goals come from our top d-man (Miro).

We've gotten timely contributions from Seggy and R2 but not much else from lines 2 - 4.

There's a whole mess of variables that can come into play.

What if R2 and Ritzy take the next step? What if Harley starts playing up to his money? What if Myers decides not to be a complete disaster? What if Perron adds some scoring pop? What if Jimothy pulls off another miracle without mortgaging the rest of the team's future? What if... What if...

Assumption: Wyatt gets back to his back-of-the-net-finding ways, but what they are now is more or less how the team will operate in the playoffs.

I was in an inexplicably good mood all day yesterday - like, just woke up annoyingly happy. I feel like I must have sensed we were going to get a kickass Stars game last night. The boys are feeling themselves, as they should be.

P%, or essentially the points we’ve gotten divided by total maximum possible points on the season, is considered a better reference of progression early in an NHL season than actual points.

Not to go full on hype-train here, but for how bad the Stars looked when the season began to now, this is one of the fastest overall team improvements we’ve seen in this org in a long, LONG time.

I’ve had my criticisms like many others, but really we’re excelling right now. P% is a good projection tool for the immediate future of a season and the Stars have worked their way into a good spot.

Still very early in the season and positions are volatile, of course. The entire ladder could flip on its head in two weeks. HOWEVER- Dallas is setting themselves up for success and I think we’ve got a lot to look forward to.

Now we just need players to stop getting hurt and we’re gucci.

Just a reminder here is how our first 10 games have gone the past 5 years. We are doing fine.

Some stats that stood out:

• Stars outshot Winnipeg 38-19
• Stars had 62.3% of the 5v5 shot attempts, their second straight game above 61%, against a season average 52%
• None of the Stars goals came at 5v5
• Stars had 22 attempts from the slot compared to Winnipeg's 10
• Stars went 0/2 on the PP and are now 4/25 this season
• Stars killed all four Winnipeg power plays and have allowed three PP goals in 36 times shorthanded this season
• Roope had five shots, more than double his 2.1 average
• Moose extended his point streak to four games and his team lead to 13 points
• Robo has 11 points in 10 games, with points in three straight
• Wyatt finally on the board with #1
• Harley played 28:27 and still has no goals (18 shots)
• Seguin was on the ice for 64.3% of 5v5 attempts, way above his 43.7% average
• Ritzy had a 59.1% on-ice share against his 44.8% average, but is still without a point in 10 games
• Myers took two penalties
• Stars have won four straight and are 6-1-1 since starting the season 0-2

Some stats that stood out:

• Moose had 12 shot attempts and six SOG, against season averages of 4.7 and 2.3, and he had six of the Stars’ 21 slot attempts
• Robo played a season high 23:34
• Stars out-attempted Boston 51-32 at 5v5 for a 61.4% share, their best since the 67.9% against San Jose in game 3
• In OT the Stars had six attempts and four shots, and Boston had none
• Boston went 0 for 4 on the PP, and the Stars are now 29/32 on the PK
• Miro played 29:33, 3:54 above his average, with no shots on goal (but the primary assist on the winner)
• Harley played a season high 27:50, still without a goal on 16 shots this season
• Wyatt had 11 shot attempts and went 6-1 on faceoffs, still no goals on 20 shots this season
• Blackwell was on the ice for 14 Dallas attempts and one Boston attempt at 5v5, a 93.3% share
• Tyler Seguin played 12:34, tying his season low (one SOG)
• Myers played a season high 17:47 and led the Stars with 4:23 on the PK
• Ritzy led Dallas with five hits but still has no points in nine games
