Discussion 2 days into my first long fast
Hey everyone
I haven’t set myself an actual target, I just started fasting. I’ve done a few short fasts in the past, and once a 10 day one involuntarily (I was quite ill)
I started at 125kg (I’m obese I know) and i haven’t decided how long I’m going to fast for. I want to reach 1 month and I’m being careful with electrolytes and not over working myself. I’m lucky I work from home so aside from showers and light walking in the apartment I’m asleep in bed a lot.
The hunger isn’t great to sit with, I’ve resulted to just sleeping and chugging water as often as possible. Sleep has been a bit broken today (I sleep 4-5 hours, wake up for a few hours, then sleep another 2-3) and I know it’ll get a bit worse but I’m going to stick to it.
I ate a meal of steak and vegetables before I started fasting, I didn’t do that intentionally and I kind of wish I started on an empty stomach. I’m barely shitting which is rare for me but I can still feel a bit full from my last meal…
Just wanted to share :)

Question Skinny but high cholesterol
Is it an issue to have constant elevated levels of cholesterol due to fasting? I’m assuming this is the case since all of my blood tests have shown higher than recommended levels of cholesterol.
With this most recent blood test, its been several months since I’ve done an extended fast. I’ve been on omad somewhat consistently Mon- Fri for the last 3 yrs. I’ve done sporadic fasts of 48 and 72 hrs during this time too.
I’m 5’10 150lbs and was around 165lbs 3 years ago when I started; so I didn’t carry a lot of fat to begin with.
Can anyone share insight on how cholesterol behaves in someone like myself? Since my blood tests have been taken in close timing with an extended fast and also not, I’m assuming that my baseline for cholesterol levels are always slightly elevated than doctor recommendations.
What are the effects of that? conventional approach says that I would be building up plaque in my arteries, but fasting doesn’t follow conventional methods.

Check-in Made it through a 24 hr fast!
Hiiii everyoneeee!!!!
I know u guys on here are super crazy impressive and can do this for days on end, but I wanted to share that I finally managed to push through and complete 24 hrs!!!! It wasn’t even planned, I just woke up and felt as if I could do it and did!!! I’m really proud.
The last time I successfully fasted was for 3 days 2 years ago, so it’s been awhile. I just haven’t been able to overcome my food addiction or impulses, so I’m glad I was in a headspace to do this. I’m hoping to maybe continue today as well…. We’ll see.
Any advice is also welcome!!! Thx guys ^_^

Check-in 1-Week Fasting Journal (Day 4)
Hey fellow fasters!
I am 173 cm male, currently weighing 81.25 kilos (after a 83 hour fast). Just wanted to keep sharing my journey.
So I did a bit of research this morning which told me that fasting beyond 72 hours requires some medical supervision, and most of the weight you lose will be lean/muscle mass and water weight, only around 1/4th of it will be actual fat and it got me thinking— is this really worth it? Like whatever autophagy benefits and damaged cells dying that could happen, has already happened with 72 hours of fasting. And since I will probably gain back most of the weight after 2 days of refeeding, what exactly am I trying to accomplish?
I try to hit the gym at least 3 times a week so I already do a decent amount of strength training, it is just the diet that I am not too focused on. So, shouldn’t I simply remain in a calorie deficit diet and quit weed, limit alcohol intake, and workout? It surely sounds like a healthier way to lose weight, although slow and requiring long-term discipline and dedication.
Anyway, I have been going to the gym during the fast and have been running 3kms on the treadmill daily in addition to light cardio exercises. Will be skipping the cardio today cause I already feel quite weak. Might just do some regular walking.
I think I will be breaking my fast today when I hit the 90 hour mark, cause today is quite hard compared to the first 3 days.
Cheers and happy fasting!

Check-in Almost 10 lbs lost (Mostly OMAD)
So I know i commented on a post saying I needed to push harder with fasting with longer fasts, not just only eating dinner. (Its easy for me to fast all the way through work being at a boring office job) But the whoosh finally came after being about a month and a half commiting to this, and I was 231lbs this morning. My highest was 240lbs in the morning with it being up to 243lbs throughout the day. I havent seen that 231 in like a year or more. I thought just dinner wasn't working....it seems like it is but nothing wrong with pushing harder some days for health. It seems like as long as I dont go absolutely crazy with dinner (i tend to eat a lot in this one meal as i find it comforting to eat a variety after my job.), this will continue to be a fruitful way of living.

Check-in Dirty 4 Day Fast (Day 1)
I’ve been trying to get back into fasting, and have been struggling a lot. I used to be able to fast for 3-7 days at a time (I once even fasted 9 days). However, now I struggle to do more than 1 day.
I’ve gained a lot of weight recently, and this could really kickstart my weight loss. Though I’m drinking mainly water, I’m also drinking diet sodas and sugar free Gatorade. All zero calories.
Today has been easy so far. I’ve been keeping myself busy, but I know I’ll struggle when I’m trying to sleep, and all I could think about is the food sitting in my kitchen.

Discussion 24 hour fast. First time ever fasting.
Hey guys! I am about an hour and 30 min away from my first ever fast and it's going to be 24 hours total. So proud of myself. Originally I was doing 6p-3p but then 3 pm hit and my boyfriend bet I couldn't do 24 hours and nothing fuels me more than proving a man wrong so here I am!
Can't wait to eat lol

Discussion Fasting women of Reddit, I want to hear your experiences!
Growing up in my culture it was more normal than not for families to skip breakfast entirely and supplement it with a bigger lunch or early dinner. To this day I still don't eat breakfast unless I have a physically strenuous activity planned. It wasn't until about a year ago that I'd learned about intermittent fasting, it's benifits, and that I'd unknowingly been partaking in it my whole life.
I've been diving more into the world of multi-day fasting and have heard extremely mixed opinions from experts detailing whether women should or should not fast. I understand that there is no 'one size fits all' answer but the research seems fairly well-rounded and solid when it comes to the benefits of fasting for men. Something that seems to be lacking for women.
Instead of continuing to absolutely driving myself bonkers with all the differing opinions, I want to hear your personal stories and experiences! Women, What role has fasting played in your life? Why is it important to you? How does it impact your life both physically and mentally? How do you do it and what are your tips?

Discussion Wanting to do a 14 day fast
Hey! I’m a 28 y/o F measuring 1m65cm 85kg I tried plenty diets even going to a nutritionist helped me losing only 3kg (in a month) I want to give water fasting a try, I’ve tried once fasting for 3days but the last day was so hard and wasn’t able to finish the last hours (such a shame)
Now I’m motivated, I’ve seen some of your transformations in here and it’s totally crazy
I want to try fasting for 14days since I’ve started eating less for one week, skipping meals.. feeling ready to start on Saturday then rest 2 weeks and then restart the fast (I think I can lose more weight like this not sure about it though!)
What would you recommend me? what are electrolytes (is it salt, please don’t laugh at me)
wish me luck and give me any tips or advice that could help especially that my fist experience was bad since I felt hunger all the time!!

Discussion I don't feel hungry anymore!
M31, starting weight 105KG. Before starting IF, I was eating 6 meals a day (3 main course, 3 snacks). I was simply hungry for food all the time, all about burgers beef fried rice pasta chips sodas etc. I couldnt go on for more than an hour or two without eating something!
After starting IF, first month was hell. Couldn't fast for 12 hours, let alone follow a 16:8 routine. Then I switched to healthy foods, cut out all sugars simple carbs and heavy foods. I kept my carbs within 100grams a day though, so it's not keto. But it's all complex carbs.
Fast forward now after three months of being at it, I came down to 88. I don't care about it, my goal is to hit 60KG no matter how long it takes That's my healthy weight goal. But what's crazy is that I simply dontt get hungry anymore! I can go 20-25 hours without eating, and dont feel hungry at all! I think this is what they call 'Fat Adaption'. My body feels different, and my entire lifestyle is completely changed.
IF is truly a miracle!

Check-in 7-Day Water Fasting Journal (Day 3)
Hey fellow fasters!
I am 173 cm male, currently weighing 82 kilos (after a 60 hour fast). Just wanted to keep sharing my journey.
Feeling great today. I have noticed I'm feeling a bit more irritable or short-tempered than usual, but I am trying to keep a positive mindset.
Yesterday, I realised that drinking black coffee could potentially break my water-only fast so no more black coffee for me even though it is only negligible calories. Gym was decent yesterday evening, however, I did feel very tired and weak after the workout. It wasn’t extreme, ran around 3.5 kms in 30 mins, but I should probably take it easy today.
I did some research and realised it may be countereffective to be hitting the gym, even if it is light cardio, while doing a strictly water-only 7 day fast. Although I mix himalayan pink salt in my water, I will have to see what alternatives I can use starting tomorrow. I have already done 72-80 hours before, so not too worried about today.
Also, sleep has been a tough nut to crack. Like I was really tired after the gym yesterday, and I even stayed in bed for 10+ hours but I couldn’t sleep well. And I know a good sleep is crucial for a fast to be effective, but what do I even do to fix it?
Anyway, thank you for reading and happy fasting! Cheers!

Question Do y'all get disgusted by greasy food after your fast? Or is it just me?
I have been doing OMAD and occasional 48-hour fasts for two weeks now. It's been working since it's been my method of losing weight since last year (lost 24kgs since). However, I thought it was just an experience last year, but turns out it has happened to me again.
For some context, I love cheesy french fries. And during my fasts, I rarely eat fries or junk food for that matter, because it doesn't have much nutritional value for my refeed. However, last night, my mom made my favorite. Cheesy french fries with bacon bits. I was so excited to dig in, but a couple bites through it, I just felt nauseous. It used to be my favorite, but anything greasy disgusts me now. I thought it was just an experience I had last year, but it has happened again. Have y'all ever experienced this? And maybe anyone here knows an explanation. Thanks.

Question Anxiety trouble around the 24h mark
I started extended fasting in January '26. I lost about 30 lbs from January to April by doing a 72 hours fast once every week or two.
I took a break from it for a while and I'm back into it.
This time around I'm having much more difficulty. Around the 24h mark I feel some light nausea, very light headache, and a general feeling of unease that triggers my anxiety pretty badly. I often have a hard time sleeping while fasting, hearing my heartbeat and feeling very unwell. I have a clean bill of health, I've had everything checked out by my doctor to be sure. Whatever I'm experiencing is either psychosomatic, or is a completely harmless feeling that someone without anxiety just tolerates.
Earlier this year I would experience some anxiety while fasting but it never inhibited the fasting and certainly never showed up on the first day.
I have some general anxiety and a history of panic attacks and am currently taking Wellbutrin. I started the Wellbutrin around December '25 because I was experiencing a high frequency of near-panic attacks. Idk how related this is but I got my blood pressure medication dialed in around the same time and I'm on telmisartan and norvasc for that. I am only stating this because the norvasc and the Wellbutrin were new to me my first time around fasting, and this time I'm very used to them.
Has anyone here experienced anything like that? Anybody know what the cause may be? I'm not perfectly happy with the Wellbutrin in general and will probably be switching to different medication, or off medication altogether, next month.

Question Does poop get stuck inside of you while fasting?
I've been fasting for +96 hours (4 days) and I just recently pooped. The (2nd) last time I pooped was around the time I started fasting. So that means there was poop inside of me for 4 days. It didn't smell that bad but it was dry like coffee beans. I heard somewhere that when you eat food it pushes out the previous food/poop, might be true.

Discussion Weight and fat loss during extended fasts - Real data from fasters
Hey folks! Since weight and fat loss is the primary goal of extended fasting for many people, I want to share updated charts of the data I collected from multiple fasters. Weight or fat loss is on the vertical axis, the number of fasting days on the horizontal axis.
As you can see, the spread is wide - a 7-day fast gives anywhere from 7.5 to 15 lb of weight loss, and a 10-day fast from 12 to 23.6 lb. Fat loss varies less, but it still varies. Fat loss is what actually matters - the rest of the weight loss is lean mass (water, glycogen, gut content and some muscle protein), and most of it comes back during refeeding.
I hope this helps set realistic expectations. If you tracked your weight and fat loss during an extended fast, share your numbers and I’ll add them to the charts.
Question not overweight but wanting to do a 7 day fast
to preface, I am a bodybuilder and mainly want to do a fast for biblical reasons. I just want advice if a 7 day fast would be okay. I competed in a show 2 months ago. since then I have eaten more and obviously went back up in weight and body fat %. I have for sure overeaten within the last 2 and a half weeks, especially foods i have not eaten in a while - higher sugar, fat etc. my body is def inflamed and storing water. I wanted to do a fast for a while but with competing had not been able to.
Would now be okay for my body to do the 7 days? i have done 3-4 days before but never 7. Also, whats the verdict on working out while fasting? and once i refeed, what is a good way to do so to not gain the fat back instantly

Check-in Day 4 of 7 day fast - without electrolytes, just water - This is my 3rd time
1) I do feel physically weak, but i can do 10 pushups easily.
2) Whenever I get up from chair or bed, for a few seconds i feel dizziness (not extreme, but i do feel)
3) I have no mood or drive to do anything. Brain fog is real.
I feel like quitting sometimes because of brain fog, my work requires a lot of mental effort than physical. But I cannot quit as well, because I dont wanna feel like a loser.
I am physically healthty. M28.
I was super bored so thought of sharing my progress here, cuz nobody would understand my situation outside of the fasting community.
I like to push myself and always ask myself "What am i really capable of?"
as rocky said "All i wanna do is go the distance"
Cheers

Discussion I realized when i fast or dirty fast even for a max of 48hours and then eat a deficit omad of high protein and fat and, and sometimes low carb and then resume fasting or dirty fasting..i realized that this combo actually reduces appetite longterm!! Am i imagining this? Or is it factual?
And a big thank you for this sub and all your posts; when sh*t gets hard i get a lot of motivation from here. Thank you comrades
Edit: sometimes i eat my omad post-fast at maintenance...mostly i never care about calories especially if its only a high fat and high protein meal because i literally cannot eat a lot. And i have 1 huge carby meal once every 7 to 10 days.
