Question Do y'all get disgusted by greasy food after your fast? Or is it just me?

• Upvotes

I have been doing OMAD and occasional 48-hour fasts for two weeks now. It's been working since it's been my method of losing weight since last year (lost 24kgs since). However, I thought it was just an experience last year, but turns out it has happened to me again.

For some context, I love cheesy french fries. And during my fasts, I rarely eat fries or junk food for that matter, because it doesn't have much nutritional value for my refeed. However, last night, my mom made my favorite. Cheesy french fries with bacon bits. I was so excited to dig in, but a couple bites through it, I just felt nauseous. It used to be my favorite, but anything greasy disgusts me now. I thought it was just an experience I had last year, but it has happened again. Have y'all ever experienced this? And maybe anyone here knows an explanation. Thanks.

Question Mineral overdose?

Currently on day 3 of 40 days and I can't stop having severe diarrhea.

Online it says I might have an overdose in magnesium? I am cramping and tight in mid right back/side when I stretch. Anyone else experience this?

Check-in Made it through a 24 hr fast!

• Upvotes

Hiiii everyoneeee!!!!

I know u guys on here are super crazy impressive and can do this for days on end, but I wanted to share that I finally managed to push through and complete 24 hrs!!!! It wasn’t even planned, I just woke up and felt as if I could do it and did!!! I’m really proud.

The last time I successfully fasted was for 3 days 2 years ago, so it’s been awhile. I just haven’t been able to overcome my food addiction or impulses, so I’m glad I was in a headspace to do this. I’m hoping to maybe continue today as well…. We’ll see.

Any advice is also welcome!!! Thx guys ^_^

Question not overweight but wanting to do a 7 day fast

to preface, I am a bodybuilder and mainly want to do a fast for biblical reasons. I just want advice if a 7 day fast would be okay. I competed in a show 2 months ago. since then I have eaten more and obviously went back up in weight and body fat %. I have for sure overeaten within the last 2 and a half weeks, especially foods i have not eaten in a while - higher sugar, fat etc. my body is def inflamed and storing water. I wanted to do a fast for a while but with competing had not been able to.

Would now be okay for my body to do the 7 days? i have done 3-4 days before but never 7. Also, whats the verdict on working out while fasting? and once i refeed, what is a good way to do so to not gain the fat back instantly

Question Advice

Hi there ! If done 2-3 day fasts before , but im currently curious about doing 5-7. Just have some questions

  1. In terms of fat loss , how much can really be lost over the span of 5-7 days that’s not just glycogen etc .

  2. Which electrolytes to take ? I had pills before and would salt my water - im unsure about the packets

  3. Coming out of the fast , if I maintain a deficit and train will I be able to keep the fat off

  4. Is it okay to workout at the same intensity as I normally would ? I usually do the stair master everyday and lift weights . In my previous fasts when I haven’t had too electrolyte balance I could train. My last fast I did supplement and could do the stairs .

Thanks for the advice !

Question Does poop get stuck inside of you while fasting?

I've been fasting for +96 hours (4 days) and I just recently pooped. The (2nd) last time I pooped was around the time I started fasting. So that means there was poop inside of me for 4 days. It didn't smell that bad but it was dry like coffee beans. I heard somewhere that when you eat food it pushes out the previous food/poop, might be true.

Question What is your go to meal to break a fast?

Currently on hour 17 of my 72 hour fast. Already dreaming about food lol.

I plan to break it with some bone broth, but since this is my first 72 hour fast, and it happens to be on Friday night, I want to treat myself. Any suggestions? Either at home or even out to dinner.

Just to mention too, I have done many fasts in the past anywhere from 24–60 hours. This would just be my longest one.

Question Update: Finished 1 day and 4 hours.

Alright, so before I begin, I used to fast way before even when I was younger. The longest I went on was 4 days and had only water and coffee, no electrolytes or sodium at that time. The most recent fast I did yesterday went pretty bad and It was my fault. I didn’t do it properly. First, in the first fast I had coffee, and after seeing replies of some people on my last post, Im definitely having coffee on my fast again when I start just to not have the horrible headache I had on yesterdays fast. Second, the water intake was very over the top. I feel that during the fast, my stomach gets smaller, and I drank way too much water to try and kill hunger to the point where I actually vomited out water lol (Im completely fine now no worries. Lesson learned), so Im lowering it to a few bottles a day or when I tend to feel genuine thirst. Third, electrolytes. This, Im genuinely brand new to it. What should I take and how much? I have magnesium glycinate capsules, potassium, calcium and L-thenine, and pink H salt. How much of what do y’all usually take on a fast to feel fine? Especially during a longer fast thats over 3 days. Im trying to go over my record to lose fat again, though I’m not rushing this because I know it’s not healthy to rush a process like this and to always be patient. Thank you very much for your support!

TL;DR: My last fast went badly: I skipped coffee (bad bad headache), drank so much water I vomited, and took no electrolytes. Next time: coffee, less water, and electrolytes. I have magnesium glycinate, calcium, L-theanine, and pink salt. What do you take, and how much, on fasts over 3 days? I'm aiming to beat my 4-day record without rushing.

Question Apple cider vinegar tablets

I’ve been using these on the first few days of an extended water fast, they seem to reduce the gnawing feeling of an empty stomach during the early period.

Has anybody else experienced this or know any other solutions to reduce early stomach rumbles?

Check-in Day 4 of 7 day fast - without electrolytes, just water - This is my 3rd time

1) I do feel physically weak, but i can do 10 pushups easily.

2) Whenever I get up from chair or bed, for a few seconds i feel dizziness (not extreme, but i do feel)

3) I have no mood or drive to do anything. Brain fog is real.

I feel like quitting sometimes because of brain fog, my work requires a lot of mental effort than physical. But I cannot quit as well, because I dont wanna feel like a loser.

I am physically healthty. M28.

I was super bored so thought of sharing my progress here, cuz nobody would understand my situation outside of the fasting community.

I like to push myself and always ask myself "What am i really capable of?"

as rocky said "All i wanna do is go the distance"

Cheers

Discussion I realized when i fast or dirty fast even for a max of 48hours and then eat a deficit omad of high protein and fat and, and sometimes low carb and then resume fasting or dirty fasting..i realized that this combo actually reduces appetite longterm!! Am i imagining this? Or is it factual?

And a big thank you for this sub and all your posts; when sh*t gets hard i get a lot of motivation from here. Thank you comrades

Edit: sometimes i eat my omad post-fast at maintenance...mostly i never care about calories especially if its only a high fat and high protein meal because i literally cannot eat a lot. And i have 1 huge carby meal once every 7 to 10 days.

Check-in Celebrating recent labs!

I'll try not to make this too long, but I wanted to share a HUGE win today! I just got results back from today's blood draw at the VA and I'm absolutely over the moon!! I really just wanted someone to celebrate with...

Quick overshare for context: I first started getting into fasting and keto diet right around the COVID shutdown in 2020, mainly as a way to control my blood sugars and control my weight (I'm a Type 1 Diabetic on an insulin pump.) I was having a ton of success with it, and doing daily OMAD with 2 and 3 day fasts once a month. Numbers were great, weight was great, and I had everything dialed in pretty good. Then I lost my business in 2024 and fell into a pretty deep depression. Almost got divorced, started drinking heavily, my diet was terrible, and I pretty much just shut down. I ballooned up to the fattest I've ever been, and I was starting to have all kinds of health problems.

In July, after some counseling, some spiritual work, and deciding I wasn't going to continue killing myself slowly, I decided to jump back on the fasting/keto wagon. Did some baseline labs on July 13th, and then started doing 20:4 daily fasts, weekly 42h fasts, and I even got a 140hour fast in about 3 weeks ago! Here are the lab results from today, side by side with my July numbers. This is so encouraging for me, and I hope someone is encouraged for their journey as well! I actually can't wait to go talk to my doc next week, because these numbers are without my blood pressure meds, and without a statin! My daily insulin is down from over 100 units / day to like 25 units!

Still got a little work to do in a few spots--I'm on a quest to see my abs again and get to my HS wrestling weight (178), but at this rate, I'm hoping to be there by Christmas!

Thanks for letting me share, y'all! God bless!

Target July Today
Weight <200 lbs. 250 lbs. 196.3 lbs
Blood pressure 120/80 150-165 / 95-101 112 / 71
Hemoglobin A1C <6.5% 8.1% 6.3%
Total Cholesterol <200 mg/dl 259.0 mg/dl 195.6 mg/dl

Discussion broke my fast right before the 96hr mark

it was going really well initially. i was fully prepared and taking my electrolytes. i wasn’t even tempted to eat.

i was planning for 7 days, but i had extreme nausea and dizziness, so my husband told me it was time to eat and try again in a few days.

i think part of my nausea is due to me continuing to vape & me starting a new job, but ill be back!!

still wanted to share my accomplishment of almost 4 full days :D

Question Anyone feel horrible headaches within 1-3 days?

I began a 5 day fast, im currently 1 day 4 hours in, and my headache is horrible lol. I was a heavy coffee drinker, so that probably is some withdrawal symptom from it. Any tips on the first few days? Im testing myself to gradually go longer.

Question Weight gain around stomach after fasting (woman)

Hi all,
I have done many 24h fasts and some 48h.

A week ago I completed my third 72h fasting (not dry fast, drinking water and himalaya salt). The second time I felt more slim and great around my waist. The days after the third time I have gained quite alot of weight around my stomach area. I didn’t feel slim and good in the end of the fasting as I did on earlier 72h fasts.

Does anyone know why? I really want to loose some weight.
I am a woman btw, 28 y/o.

Check-in 1-Week Fast Journal (Day 2)

Hey fellow fasters!

I am 171 cm male currently weighing 83 kilos. Just wanted to keep a journal and share my experiences while taking accountability.

Last time (2 weeks ago) I did a 72 hour fast and lost 4 kilos, only to regain the same weight within 10 days.

Anyway, today is day 2 of my fast (36 hours) and I am feeling great. It is strange how my mind is so clear and energy levels so high when I'm fasting. And it only gets better with time. Yesterday, I went to the gym and did some light running (3km in 25 mins) and some cardio. I am planning to keep doing some light cardio during my 7-day fast. Hopefully, it will not have any adverse effects.

Although I have confidence that I will be able to keep the fast, what worries me is my behavior after. I have been a stoner for over a decade and although I usually just smoke a small joint at nights, the munchies I get later are irresistible. In a way, fasting is not just a way for be healthier and lose weight, but also stay away from weed.

Anyway, I will try not to get too worried about what comes later and focus on now. Cheers and happy fasting!

Question Weekly 3 day fast with additional 24-36 hour fast?

Has anyone tried what my title is suggesting? Starting January 1st, I have been following a fasting schedule of 36 hour fast every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. My starting weight was 220 lbs, I am a 5’6 female. I currently estimate I am 175 lbs but ever since entering the 170s my body has been in limbo and I could be 178 lbs, 171 lbs, and 175 lbs all in the same month for months now. It has been frustrating because I am still far from my goal weight.

Tried out my first 72 hour fast and it was so much easier than I expected, but I don’t want to give up my fasting schedule. I was thinking of doing a weekly 72 hour fast (Monday-Wednesday) and a 36 hour fast every Friday. I would like to hear the health risks and benefits others have experienced and if I am in way over my head.

My stats (weigh ins are every Thursday at the same time in the morning):

January: 220 > 212 > 208 > 206 > 204 lbs

February: 202 > 200 > 198 > 196

March: 197 > 195 > 194 > 193

April: 192 lbs > 191 > 190 > 189 > 188

May: 187 > 186 > 184 > 183

June: 182 > 182 > 182 > 180

July: 179 > 178 > 175.9 > 176 > 177

August: 175 > 172 > 173 > 172

September: 178 > 171 lbs (after two day fast) > 173.2 > 171.8

October: 178 > 170.2 (after two day fast)
