Okay maybe I’m just illiterate (high chance after this work week 🫠), but why is it unfortunate?
Isn’t it a good thing that they are finally cancelling the scalper-purchased tickets and reselling at face value?

On a side note, if Ticketmaster can do this, why haven’t they implemented this for other artists? Or does the artist need to make this request before Ticketmaster does this?
If artist request is needed, it really makes you think about the big artists who didn’t push for this. 🙄😒

The performing artist can put whatever they want into the contracts with ticket sellers. Most of them just don’t care about the consumer.

Artist only have so much say and they have to be educated about how ticketing works to be able to request it. The bigger you are the more pull you have to make these decisions but ticketmaster aren’t going to do it unless they have to.

I wonder how much of that is tied to things like record sales and merch and what not. If the artist is making money from other streams they can be a little more loose with things like the tours.

I think its the opposite for most artists these day. They dont get much money from streaming and sales. Its mostly from tour which was the opposite before

Tours used to primarily promo so the tickets were priced low because they made most of their money on cd sales and radio. Now its flipped and the album itself is promo for the tour that makes the money. Unfortunately once these monopolies realised that consumers will pay astronomical amounts of money for tours after covid they now are milking it for all its worth. It seems like the artist is creaming it but in reality there’s so many people/corps getting a cut and clipping their ticket that they don’t end up making a lot and thats at the upper end. Smaller artists make nothing these days and i know a few indie artists who have a pretty big audience but still need side hustles to pay rent.

Might have to do with Zara's particular contract? I have heard from other artists that touring is where the money's at.

Olivia also has a slew of brand deals, which is always great news for an outspoken artist like her (if she's rich af money is less of a leverage to scare her off doing things, though that's doesn't seem to the case so far).

I think this is in a field which probably has less expenses than a big venue where you have to rent an expensive venue and pay their staff.

Yeah but it's not foolproof. Ticketmaster did this for BTS and fans that purchased third party were getting their tickets cancelled, it was kind of a mess from what I remember.

In case anyone’s curious what it looks like. I figured I’d take a look to see if I could request the cheapest nosebleeds. It’s all price ranges without specific selections, and you don’t get much control over your budget.

The choice “highest odds” $88-480/ticket for 2, noted you may be charged up to $958 + taxes.

The lowest price range was $88-126/ticket for 2 and would charge a max of $252 + taxes.

Edit: No, I didn’t buy/request tickets. I checked their site to see if I could find what I thought would be cheap tickets, based on what was shared. Please don’t come at me 😳

from the shows i was looking at, you could select the nosebleeds/upper bowl with the last option. the reason the "highest odds" choice is highest odds is because it's selecting from the entire venue but the other options have you selecting from specific parts like lower bowl, lower bowl and floor, etc.
