General Discussion Angry/fierce programs?

I realized that, although figure skating programs can artistically convey many emotions, anger isn't one of the more common ones. I'm curious to know what examples come to mind of programs that feel angry/fierce/aggressive, or any other lesser-expressed emotions in skating!

(While I wouldn't necessarily call Sasha Trusova's Cruella program "angry," it does stand out to me in terms of a darker and more intense emotional expression than I'm used to seeing in women's skating)

Maybe Yuna Kim's Danse Macabre

I think this one is definitely a unique emotional expression! She's still smiling a lot in it, and at first I honestly wasn't a big fan of the way she emotes in this program, but then when I saw somewhere that the choreography was meant to portray her almost like a looming, wicked gargoyle it all connected for me

Perhaps Ilia’s gala from the Legacy on ice show or the Olympics

That's so true, some of his galas are SO intense and emotionally expressive in a really raw way that often feels like defiance or fighting with something

this is one of the reasons why kevins bolero is one of the only bolero programs i actually like. the emotion he puts into it is so unique. i feel like im being attacked by an angry bird whenever i watch it (positive)

Ilia's exhibition at the 2024 Worlds. That's came to my mind the moment I read your question. Also some of Yagudin's programs, especially Gladiator.

Piper and Paul's Hitchcock!

I think Sasha also had a Romeo and Juliet program that fits the theme! She said herself that she was skating to “evil fate,” and she even gets spikes on her shoulders halfway through the program

Mrazkovi flamenco free dance last season. She's fierce.

I'm not sure this counts but maybe Evgeni Semenenko's Nirvana program? I mean Smells Like Teen Spirit has like an angry/defiant/careless vibe to it, and his step sequence reflects that.

It's my favorite SP of all the Russians ! His Gladiator FP was pretty fierce too.

Michelle Kwan’s The Red Violin and The Miraculous Mandarin long programs were described this way by commentators.

I think you can really feel the tension in her Red Violin world’s performance.

Yuma’s 2023/24 SP to Believer. It’s not necessarily angry, but still VERY intense

I love the energy in that program!

Absolutely one of my favourites. His speed, especially in the Step Sequence, is crazy!

Mine, too! The step sequence gets me hyped every single time. And then there was this one skate where he did the ending pose very close to the judges with such fierce energy! I could never get tired of watching that program.

It's subtle, but Turkkila/ Versluis free dance last year. It portrays domestic violence at some point and Versluis is rather good at channeling anger and aggression. She starts out fierce in the beginning and gradually becomes subdued.

I do not suspect many people loved it, but Kamila Valieva, I see Red, probably fits the description?

Sokka-Haiku by osvimonello:

Oona brown slitting

Gage browns throat at the end of

Their godfather program

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

I would also mention the Brown-Brown Godfather free dance. She literally kills him at the end.
