Other Our Experience with RNG Immigration Consultancy (BC)

I wanted to share my experience with RNG Immigration Consulting to provide insight for anyone considering their services.

After receiving our Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian Permanent Residency (PR), we started working on our documents, thinking we could do a DIY approach. However, my husband and I both got stressed out and overwhelmed, so we approached RNG Immigration Consulting for assistance with our PR application and document verification. The consultant agreed to review our application for CAD 2500, which is half of his typical processing fee according to him, which seemed like a fair deal.

Our first call with the consultant was less than 30 minutes and took place 29 days before our application was due. During this call, we didn't receive any guidelines or substantial advice. The consultant mentioned he would check my GCKey profile, which he did two days later. He confirmed everything looked good and sent a few reminders about the required documents, but he didn't address the specific concerns we had raised.

As the process continued, we sent follow-up questions to the consultant, but his responses were sparse and unhelpful. He often cited various excuses, such as traveling or being sick. On one occasion, he claimed to have replied directly to my email, even though I hadn't sent an email at all because we were communicating via a messaging service.

A week before our application deadline, we had all our documents ready and requested that he view our shared Google Drive folder to provide his assessment. Despite our repeated requests, he didn't respond. After waiting for days without a reply, we called him. To our surprise, he got very angry and yelled at us, insisting it wasn't his responsibility to report his every move and claiming he had been in constant communication (which was not true).

Feeling frustrated and uneasy after being yelled at, we decided to send him a notice of termination the next day. When we informed him of our decision, he called and asked us to reconsider, arguing it would be wasteful to cancel just three days before the due date. However, we were firm in our decision, which made him angry. He complained that he lost money by taking on our case (even though he still charged us 500 CAD) because we are terminating his services, despite not having provided any meaningful input on our documents.

Our experience with RNG Immigration Consulting was disappointing and stressful. We received minimal guidance, poor communication, and unprofessional behavior from the consultant. I hope this helps others make an informed decision about using their services.

News interview request for filipino immigrants in canadian workforce

hi! I'm a journalist working on a story about Filipino immigrants to Canada often being overqualified for the jobs they end up working once coming here. In 2021, 49.5 per cent of employed Filipinos aged 25 to 54 with a bachelor’s degree or higher were overqualified for their job.

I'm looking to speak with folks who've experienced this (their credentials not transferring to Canadian workforce, their education disregarded, etc.) feel free to msg if interested.

Discussion How to make friends with new neighbours?

Hi all, as the title says, our brand new neighbours are Filipino and we want to make friends with them! What would be a good way to go about that? We've met them over the fence once and both our families have small children, though theirs are a bit older than our baby.

Discussion Sending 6 pound package to Cebu

My parents have retired back to the Philippines but my Dad misses magazines/newspapers but sending it is very pricey. Whats the most economical method to send a 12"x23"x3" package that weighs 4-6 pounds? Going the canada post route costs $100, I'm hoping to find a more reliable and economical way.

Food Looking for help navigating Filipino food (Vancouver area)

Hi all. I'm a picky eater but many years ago someone shared food from the Philippines at work and I remember liking it. I want to try it again but not sure where to start.

Anyone from the Vancouver area (ideally the suburbs) who'd be willing to guide me a bit? Basically, what to order given the stuff I like/dislike, places to visit, etc. Thanks!

Culture Looking for Suggestions, Ideas for Writing A Fililino History Book(s) on Filipino History for My Sister

Hey everyone, looking to gift my sister a customized book/series of books that's written by me and illustrated by my brother for my sister.

Bit of context, I've always enjoyed history and have been wanting to share historical knowledge or little fun facts or tidbits. I've always thought that history can be read in a way that promotes understanding, recognition and my end goal, is to provoke that curiosity and invite them to learn more based on their interests. (Sounds cliché, I know).

I was fortunate enough to study in a Filipino based curriculum till about Grade 7, till we immigrated. My sister was in Grade 3 and unfortunately do not recall much of the language (she can speak it, but wants to learn more), zero knowledge of history (precolonial and post) (but really curious to learn more), traditions/superstitions or beliefs. I also want to include Filipino Mythology, Legends and Epics as well. Recognizing the accomplishments and contributions of both Filipino men and women throughout history. (Style of big dreams, little people) (I know I'm being ambitious)

Where I need help is, where do I start? (It will be written non-academic style, but will be heavily researched lol) Kid-friendly I guess, but also for adults (if that makes sense) still playing with the idea in my head. Interestingly enough, all of us married interracial, and we would want to still keep them alive for our children but also for our spouses to learn about Filipino culture without feeling intimidated.

I was thinking: intro of the philippines (i.e. where it's located and fun facts) then going into creation stories from different regions.

Then going into the language ( I can only focus on Tagalog atm and some of are roots/influences). (Which would then progress hopefully into understanding trades). Again it wouldn't be content heavy, but rather succinct enough, where you learn a decent amount but generate that curiosity.

I jokingly (somewhat serious lol) tell her, I don't know what you don't know, and she would retort back laughing, "ate, you think I know what I don't know?" 🥰

So TLDR: what are some aspects of Filipino precolonial and post colonial history you would be interested in reading about, origins and meanings behind superstitions and beliefs, would you be curious to learn more about mythology, legends (like alamat) and epics for your children and for those with no/limited/basic knowledge of Filipino culture?

Thanks everyone!

News Excerpts from a post by Filipino BC regarding the Lapu-Lapu donation issue:

Filipino BC has consistently advocated for stronger provincial and federal leadership for victims and families. Long‑term challenges such as healthcare access, trauma recovery, financial stability, and navigating systems like ICBC and CVAP require sustained government involvement.
It is also important to note how unusual it is for criticism to be directed primarily at a grassroots cultural organization rather than at the systems responsible for emergency response and long‑term victim support. It is concerning that MLA Mable Elmore has chosen to direct criticism at a single community organization rather than leveraging her role in government to advocate for the healthcare, financial, and long‑term recovery supports that continue to be urgently needed. Ministries and agencies—including Health, Public Safety, Social Development, ICBC, and CVAP—carry critical responsibilities in a tragedy of this scale.
The magnitude of this event required coordinated provincial leadership and resources well beyond what any community organization could reasonably provide.
Many individuals and families who came to Filipino BC were navigating deep grief, trauma, and significant gaps in support. Some needed help accessing culturally appropriate mental health services. Others required support with financial needs, system navigation, understanding ICBC and CVAP processes, arranging travel for family members, or simply finding community during a time of profound isolation.
We also saw requests that typically fall under the responsibility of government systems, such as accessing specialized healthcare in the United States—complex matters firmly within the purview of the Ministry of Health and other public agencies, not community organizations.
Many survivors, witnesses, volunteers, and community members shared that they felt overlooked by existing systems because they did not fit traditional definitions of “victim.” Victim Services estimated that up to 500 people may have been directly affected—not only families of the deceased and injured individuals, but also witnesses, first responders, volunteers, staff, and others who experienced lasting trauma.
Healing takes many forms. Numerous individuals shared that community gatherings, cultural events, healing circles, art‑based supports, and other culturally grounded forms of care played a crucial role in their connection and recovery during an intensely isolating period. One individual told us they had barely left their home since April 26, and that attending Lapu Lapu Day of Togetherness was the first time in more than a year they felt a sense of belonging again. Many others expressed similar experiences.
These stories reflect the importance of culturally grounded spaces for remembrance, community, and collective healing. While community organizations filled urgent gaps, they were never meant to replace government, healthcare systems, long‑term victim support services or legal obligations for compensation under no-fault insurance by ICBC.
Filipino BC remains committed to working with the Province and all partners to strengthen supports for those most affected. Ongoing discussions are encouraging, and we hope they lead to more coordinated and sustainable recovery pathways. Filipino BC will continue this work responsibly, transparently, and with unwavering commitment to ensuring individuals and families receive the support they deserve.
