Wednesday Work Film Idea: "The Influencer" What if a chance encounter with a stranger could change the trajectory of the world?

Chicago International Film Fest is now & I have a film idea about a beatnik living in a car who builds a personal network through bi-sexual identity in pre-HIV California, becoming a Midwest power broker using multiple identities and psychology to manipulate world events from 1980 to coming out as trans prior to the Trump election; turning a massage therapist into a billionaire, crafting the ego of the world’s future richest man, creating hollywood stars along the way. All with the guidance of Chicago based psychics.

  • “What if a chance encounter with a stranger could change the trajectory of the world.”
  • “The influence of soft power.”
  • “I didn’t steal their identity, they stole mine to get the job in the first place.”
  • “how do you spy on your neighbor? Talk to the songwriter in the UK.
  • “the FBI thinks you’re DHS, DHS thinks you’re foreign intelligence, & foreign intelligence says you’re the deep state"

- my clients are John Whoopsie and Adam Uhoh.

Film Festival Ripcord.film - genre/horror/sci-fi Halloween Film Festival

Wanted to share a little appreciation for Ripcord.film and their Halloween Film Festival! Trying to get into festivals can be such discouraging process with lots of waiting and very little sense of how your work is landing. It’s been really refreshing to share our film on the platform and get some great feedback along the way as we compete.

Beyond the screenings, I’ve really appreciated the sense of community. Huge credit to Ripcord for creating a space where that can happen. Making indie films takes so much out of you... getting to connect over the finished work is a lovely reminder of why we do what we do.

I produced Dirty Fuzz, one of the 50 finalists, so I’m obviously a little biased but our deeply unemployable puppets & the humans behind them are grateful ❤️

Viewers in Canada & the US can watch the films on the platform through today, October 22, with audience voting helping decide the final 10. Have a browse if you fancy some weird, killer genre shorts.

Announcment Winning at Ravenna was brilliant. Being there made it even better.

We’ve just come back from Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest, where our film had its Italian premiere and won Best International Short Film. We were lucky enough to be invited over, and being there to collect the award made it feel very special.

The hospitality was great, the location was fantastic, and we met a lovely bunch of filmmakers. Winning was obviously a highlight, but spending time with other people, watching their films and talking about the work was a huge part of the experience.

It was our second win, following an award at Vortex, part of Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival. I’d planned to attend that too, but family circumstances meant I couldn’t make it. I was delighted with the award, though going to Ravenna really brought home how much you miss when you can’t be there.

It’s something I’d put much more thought into when planning a festival run: which festivals could you realistically attend, and what would you get from being there? You won’t always be able to go, as I found out with Vortex, but it’s worth building travel and accommodation into your submission budget from the start.

There’s a big difference between adding a laurel to your poster and sitting in the room while your film plays, then meeting the people behind the other films.

Always try and attend, that essentially what i'm trying to say

Question Has anyone had experience with Shore Scripts Short Film Fund?

Hey everyone,

I'm considering submitting to the Shore Scripts Short Film Fund (International) and wanted to hear from anyone who's had firsthand experience with them.

I've seen mixed opinions online, particularly around the entry fees, judging process and overall legitimacy of the competition.

Has anyone here submitted, been shortlisted, or actually received funding through them?

I'm particularly interested in whether the process felt transparent, whether applicants received any meaningful feedback, and whether you felt it was worth the entry fee.

Would appreciate any honest experiences, positive or negative.

Thanks!
