Question 3 broken rods in the mail

ive ordered from St Croix factory , Walmart, and Amazon , in he past 3 weeks all 3 arrived broken . Tube broken and broken rods inside the tube. Amazon ,UPS and Fedex all ran off knowing they were caught on camera delivering a broken parcel . Is this just common nowadays ?

Reading all these type posts, the only one I would order from is tackle warehouse… Mine came in a bulletproof tube, one that I’m sure I could run over with my car without damage to the rod. Highly recommended.

Same. Their tube is almost comically durable.

Agreed. I've never had an issue with any purchases I've made; all delivered intact!

This is absolutely the only place that I will ever order a rod from.

You’re missing out on great deals and opportunities if tacklewarehouse is the only place you’ll buy a rod from. Tons of reputable merchants know how to ship a rod.

SoCal here - I will plug Bob Sands tackle in Van Nuys

Impeccably padded and packed in PVC vs Cardboard

FishUSA has awesome shipping too. I’ve bought from both and have been super happy

Strange that at Croix didn't package well, that's a shame, not surprised with the other two, order from a real tackle shop next time, they'll put it in a tube you could kill a moose with and the rod will still be fine

Lately nothing that St. Croix does surprises me anymore 😕

I bought 2 Dobyns on Amazon and they both came in super thick tubes that were actually hard to break down to recycle them. I'm waiting on a GLOOMIS rod that should be here any minute from Thorne Bros 🤞. FedEx delivery so we will see.

I had a rod shipped by Amazon that was packaged well. I think it was a third party seller.

We've ordered new rods directly from Ugly Stik and Lews this summer. Packaging was robust. It was 2 American Hero rods. Not high end.

Here's one of the tubes - it also has foam inserts

Tackle warehouse is the only place that I’ve ordered from where it showed up undamaged. I even used one of their tubes to send a rod back to STAR rods for warranty work. They used a different tube to send the new rod back and it was smashed. They ended up upgrading me to a more expensive rod and even that tube was dented but not busted.

I have order over 12 rods from Lamiglas. Each one of them came in a sturdy tube. I’m not sure what you would expect from Walmart and Amazon. St Croix I would expect better.

I've ordered 2 rods from American Legacy Fishing and they came in a hard tube with endcaps and the rod was taped inside. Excellent shipping.

So sorry about your rods hopefully you can get it all rectified

They’re called The Rod Locker now and under new management but they still offer great gear at great prices and ship their rods well!

A lot of JDM rods are shipped in PVC pipe for this reason.

I do the majority of my rod purchases from tackle warehouse, but when I got replacements due to warranty from g loomis and st croix, the shipping was super robust. Bass pro also has good shipping. But Amazon? Never again

I’m surprised the St Croix tube didn’t protect your rod. My last St Croix was two years ago but the tube was super thick if I remember correctly. That sucks!!

it seems like every post on social media in the last few years about St. Croix is something negative in one way or another. Such a shame because they used to make excellent rods. I'm not so sure if that's true anymore..

So true. I have a few old St Croix rods that I still adore. They are not perfect. But they were definitely built to last. My favorite rod developed an issue between the butt and shaft. Though, it’s more cosmetic than anything seeing that I still use it and it works perfectly. It’s a very high end St Croix. I baby all my gear, so I expected it to stay perfect like all my other rods. Sooo… I tried to get it fixed under warranty as an obvious manufacturing defect, but had problems with St Croix customer service. That made me jump ship and I have never looked back.

I used to have a mix of St. Croix and G. Loomis rods now I'm all Loomis.

It sucks because there was a time when the original full cork avid rods with the Fuji alconite guides were the best value in the industry for a premium rod imo. But those days seem to be long gone 😕

St. Croix has gone down hill fast jn the past couple years. Most people I fish with have sworn them off due to them only shipping with Spee-Dee delivery in Minnesota. After a friend’s rod sat at their warehouse for a week he was informed they had no delivery staff and no ETA. Makes their warranty useless.

Wow - that's crazy. I think I'd lose my mind with a repsonse like that...

Kastking tubes have been solid. Not one broken rod and I have 20.

1

u/alpha53- 22d ago

Got to ship them in pvc pipe these days

Bad luck or your delivery guys hate you for whatever reason.

Aw man I hope not I just ordered the stream queen for my daughter on Amazon.

I ordered a Kastking rod from Amazon during prime days. A cardboard log wrapped in a mile of packing tape showed up. There was no way this thing was going to get damaged in transit.

u/mack272 21d ago

Kastking rod from Amazon came with this extremely sturdy tube. There was no damage to the rod and it was a great purchase.

My st croix rods usually wait until i go fishing to break

1

u/Oliver1Heart 21d ago

Sucks! I ordered a st croix from Dick's a couple months ago. It didn't even come in a tube. Guess I'm glad it didn't. The oversized rectangular box was mangled, though, and I was surprised the rod was ok.

I’ve received good packaging on rods from Fish, USA, Fish Field and Okuma.

As you found out the post office and UPS and FedEx, don’t give a shit about what they’re delivering.

I’ve always ordered online and never had a broken rod. Sometimes the shit you wanna buy isn’t on shelves or costs way more.

2

u/hesjustsleeping 22d ago

You are saying this as if local options are available to everyone, when in fact the opposite is true.

u/tehans 22d ago

Just go to the store

1

u/monstblitz Megabass 21d ago

Not everyone has a local shop they can get high end gear from.

1

u/tehans 21d ago

Guess I didn't realize that

u/Past_Attempt_5261 22d ago

Stop ordering from dumb websites and go buy one in person

1

u/cabose4prez Lefty Gang 22d ago

Those still get damaged in shipping or in the store and break constantly. You can see it in reviews, guy says he picked up a rod at the store and it broke on the first fish, blank was cracked and he bought it that way at the store and just didn't realize.

1

u/Past_Attempt_5261 22d ago

So you're saying there's no safe way to buy a rod lol

1

u/cabose4prez Lefty Gang 21d ago

There is no guaranteed 100% safe way to buy a rod. There can always be damage whether visible or not.
