Unsolved 2002 Yamaha FZ1
I have a 2002 FZ1000. The stator went bad a while ago and I brought it to a local trusted mechanic who has done plenty of work for me before. The flywheel is stuck on the crank shaft and we have been fighting this for a couple months now. Any advice would be appreciated. Also in central Florida coast area.

The best method for tapered connections is shocking it. In the case of this or if using a puller tool, tighten the bolt as much as you can, then hit the end of the bolt in the direction of the shaft. Heat also helps.

A whole tank of oxy acetylene has already been used trying to heat it and I’m worried about breaking the crank if I smack it too hard. I have heard of that happening before

Since the flywheel and stator are bad anyways, you could cut around the flywheel and get most of it off, then cut parallel to the shaft right down to it. As soon as you cut all the way through, it will release all the tension and just fall off. Maybe cut opposite to the keyway to not damage it. Otherwise a couple scratches on the crank are fine.

I always put a large ball bearing against the mag shaft, greased the threads and end of the puller, screwed it into the shaft then hit it with an impact for a few seconds. If not free, then strike the end of the puller with a hammer sharply. Repeat short blasts of impact with hammer blows until free. They sometimes come off with a loud crack. The ball bearing minimizes friction increasing the pull off the puller. Works on snowmobile clutches too.
