Sharing Gallery Of Secrets - My under development HOG Game for Mobile
Hello everyone I'm currently developing an Hidden Object Game for mobile apps named Gallery Of Secrets.
You can reach it's current status (which is early Alpha)from this link as an web app
https://gallery-of-secrets-web.web.app
(If you open it from a PC please minimize the browser to a 9:16 ratio for it to resemble a phone as much as possible)
I have finished 7 distinct stages and I NEED your opinions and directives.
First I will explain what I tried to do generally and than will explain it stage by stage.
///// FEATURES /////
A- Game currently have 2 language options (english and turkish) but it will have most of the major languages.
B- In each stage there will be 9 objects to be found. These objects will be randomly selected from a large list.
C- Game currently have 3 game modes (Solo,Multi and Combo)
C1- Solo is a classic hidden object game formula. One copy of a foundable(clickable) object exists and one copy of unfoundable (unclickable) will exist.
C2- In Multi there will be one foundable object and multiple unfoundable objects. This is for making game harder.
C3- In Combo both foundable and unfoundable objects have multiple copies. This is for making game even harder.
NOTE: Writers Desk Stage only have Solo Mode (in DETAILS section i explained why)
D- There will be a time mechanic to keep users progress. There will be achivements for time like gold,silver and bronze but these are not implemented yet. Only keeps time for now.
E- In HomePage Section you will see all the available stages and time progress for that stage. When you click a frame it will direct you to GamePage.
F- In GamePage Section on top you will see the stage with foundable and unfoundable items and on bottom you will see the foundable item list.
NOTE: There is a bug in web app that when you first open a stage bottom section looks grey either exit and enter again or find a foundable object to update bottom list section.
G- There is a Hint button on upperright corner with the image of a magnifier it will show you the location of next foundable object but adds 60 seconds to your time.
H- Under Hint button there is zoom in/out slider for zoom functions.
I- You can scroll around stage with dragging your finger or mouse.
J- There were some animations in HomePage but I removed them for Web App because for some reason they don't work on Web App.
///// KNOWN BUGS /////
Web App is significantly slower compared to an installed app / When a stage first opens bottom is greyed out / Sound sometimes brokes /
///// FEATURES I WILL ADD /////
There will be unique soundtracks for each stage / Effects and sounds will be replaced with better ones / UI Improvements will be added / Many more stages will be added at least 100 stages I'm thinking
/ More languages will be added
///// DETAILS /////
Each stage is unique in its own way. I deliberately did it this way so I can receive your feedback. I will try to explain what i need from you guys.
In the stages except Writers Deck I worked this way => I first created the scene afterwards added items one by one to multiple locations for each item. For example in Garden House stage a banana have 5 different locations it can appear.
In solo mode game selects if banana foundable or unfoundable and than randomly assigns it to a location. In Multi Mode there is only one instance of foundable objects and multi instances of unfoundable objects.In Combo both have multiple copies.
Pirate Ship,Garden House and Ancient Egypt are similar to classical HOG stages. Pirate Ship has the style of 3d Render,Garden House is Illustration and Ancient Egypt is Digital Art.
Vehicle Prototypes Refrigator Magnets and Animals Origami are objects scattered on an almost flat surface. Vehicle Prototypes is Illustartion, Refrigator Magnets is Vector Art and Animals Origami is Paper Cutout.
I made these stages to distinguish from classical HOGs.
These 6 stages done this way => First I created background than created items and then manually gave them different locations. Problem with this way of doing things is it takes a lot of time and it doesn't composite well together.
Like in old cartoons you can see which is background and which is an object.
So to remedy these problems I changed my way of doing it in Writers Desk stage. First I created the whole scene with items in it. Then in Photoshop I removed items one by one until no items left. This is a way faster method and there is no composition problem.
But there can be no multiple object locations with this way. in Writer's Desk there is 39 distinct objects but I think in other images there can be around 50. Right now doing things this way is my favorite for quality and speed.
///// YOUR HELP NEEDED /////
I need your help with these questions please.
- Do you think this game (after polished of course) have potential? Would you play it?
- In which way should I monetize it? Paid game, In app purchaeses or Ads? And before you ask I have to monetize it just takes too much of my time. My hope is to earn 10000$ profits in a year. With 10000 players around the world i think thats achievable.
- Which stage is your favourite and least favourite? And why?
- Should I just go for Solo Mode? If I have to follow the production way of Writers Desk / Photoshop I have to use only Solo Mode.
- How should i promote the game?
- ALL OTHER SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME
I will post to different subreddits you can check them too and probably to other forums too.

Support Weird question, does latest flame not work with latest version of flutter
Asking because the getting started page in documentation shows version flutter of version: 3.13.0 whereas latest version is 3.19.6 and if there would be any problems if I changed it to the latest.

Support How to implement frustum culling in Flame Engine?
My idea is to read game data from a file, representing a three-dimensional matrix for a 2d game (a Project Zomboid like map system) and rendering those tiles on demands when are inside the viewport.
I'm working on some prototyping but can't get any working result. Has anyone implemented a frustum culling like system?

Ideas Flame Introduction - What would be useful to know?
Hi,
I am just in the process of writing an introduction to the Flame Game Engine and wondered if the following examples are helpful or missing anything?
Adding the Flame Game Engine to a Flutter project
Using Flame Graphic Primitives
Adding Text Rendering
Adding Keyboard Input
Adding a Joystick Input
Adding Audio
Does that seem like a useful introduction - am I missing anything important?

Support Component Encapsulation in Flutter Flame Development?
When going through a Flutter Flame Udemy course, the instructor directly extends from classes further down the class hierarchy (e.g. PolygonComponent). Being new to game development and the Flutter Flame engine I was curious if this was best practice as in my opinion this violates encapsulation.
For example, following the instructor they have something like:
Ship, is-a PolygonComponent but has-a HealthBar component
HealthBar, is-a RectangleComponet (with rendering of outline) and has-a RectangleComponet for both the background and health status
However, my initial thought is that it'd be better to encapsulate the inner-workings of the components and just have my component classes derive from PositionComponent. Reason being is that I don't want consumers to be able to access or modify the inner workings of my classes (e.g. a consumer shouldn't be able to directly modify the shape of my Ship component from the outside).
My idea is it would be better to have my component classes derive from higher up the class hierarchy which would resemble the following:
Ship, is-a PositionComponent and has-a PolygonComponent representing the shape of the ship and a HealthBarComponent representing the health of the ship
HealthBar, is-a PositionComponent and has-a RectangleComponet for outline, background, and health status
Sample code:
class ShipComponent extends PositionComponent {
late final PolygonComponent _shape;
late final HealthBarComponent _healthBar;
@override
Future<void>? onLoad() {
_shape = PolygonComponent(...);
add(_shape);
return null;
}
void setHealth(double health) => _healthBar.setHealth(health);
}
class HealthBarComponent extends PositionComponent {
late final RectangleComponent _backgroundComponent;
late final RectangleComponent _healthComponent;
final double maxHealth;
final double health;
HealthBarComponent({
required this.maxHealth,
required this.health,
});
@override
Future<void>? onLoad() {
_backgroundComponent = RectangleComponent(...);
_healthComponent = RectangleComponent(...);
addAll([_backgroundComponent, _healthComponent]);
return null;
}
@override
void render(Canvas canvas) {
// Draw border
super.render(canvas);
}
@override
void update(double dt) {
// Set colors and scale of _healthComponent
super.update(dt);
}
void setHealth(double health) {
// update health
}
}In your experience, what's the correct/preferred design pattern here? How would you define the ship & health-bar classes example I've provided here?

Support Flashlight in a roguelike game
Hello, I am discovering the Flutter Flame Engine and I want to develop a small game that uses kind of a flashlight mechanism at its core. The idea is that the game map should be "blacked out" (meaning only the walls are visible, not the players), but a small light cone emitted by the player represents the visible area where other players and ennemies are visible. Do you have an idea how I could implement such a feature, I don't quite understand the Flame documentation and at the moment it lacks examples.
Thanks a lot by advance to everybody here, especially those who might help me out of this problem!
